Abstract

This study aims to analyze the types of grammatical error of writing recount text. Writing is considered as the most complicated skill to be mastered required not only great vocabularies but also grammar. As Harmer (2004:31) cited in (Wati & Nursyaebah, 2017) states that, when writing, learners often have more time to think than they do in spoken activities. Therefore, they can stimulate their brain, even consult dictionaries, grammar books or other reference material to help them. The researcher used descriptive research. The researcher used written test for students to make a recount text in collecting the data. Test was used to collected the data. The method of this study was descriptive research which was conducted from September until October in 2023/2024 academic year. This subject of the research was students of 8th grade b with 27 students. Miles and Huberman theory was used to analyze the data consisted of data collection, data reduction, data display, and data verification. The result of this research shows that there are two types of errors occurred in this research. The most error is addition (103 or 64%), the second place goes to omission (57 or 36%). In this research can be concluded that addition error type is mostly found in the students‘ writing text. The researcher hope this study can reference students to improve their writing by focusing their errors. This study also provide an overview for teacher to determine the appropriate method in learning. Key words : Error analysis, Grammatical, Writing, Recount text

Abstract

Abstract: The objectives of this research were: 1) to identify the grammatical and lexical cohesion of song lyrics ‘Permission to Dance’ by BTS; 2) to identify the situational context of song lyrics ‘Permission to Dance’ by BTS, and; 3) to identify the cultural context of song lyrics ‘Permission to Dance’ by BTS. The research analyzed the grammatical and lexical cohesion of song lyrics “Permission to Dance” by BTS based on the theory of Cohesion in English by Halliday and Hasan. The result showed that there were various kind of grammatical cohesion found in the song lyrics such as references that includes persona references, demonstrative references, and comparative references; ellipsis; and conjunction. This research also analyzed the context of song lyrics “Permission to Dance” by BTS by using Language Context theory by Halliday and Hasan. There are two types of context analyzed: 1) situational context, contained the situation, the participants, and the objective of the lyrics; and 2) cultural context contained the cultural background of BTS as Korean citizen in producing “Permission to Dance” during the pandemic situation. Abstract

The study aimed to find out the influence of Quizizz as a learning media towards student learning motivation in English learning among tenth grade students at MAN 1 Surakarta during the 2023/2024 academic year. A quantitative method was used with a One Group PretestPosttest design, with 26 students selected through random sampling method. Data was collected through pre-test, post-test, and questionnaire. The researcher used a paired sample t-test formula and SPSS 16 application to analyze the data. The results showed a significant influence of Quizizz on student motivation in English learning. The t-test resulted in a tcount value of 37,787, which was greater than the ttable at a 5% significance level of 2,060. Therefore, the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. The study highlights the importance of using Quizizz as a learning media for English learning among tenth grade students. Keywords: Quizizz, Learning Media, Learning Motivation, Learning English.

Abstract

The aimed of this research was to determine (1) Students’ interest in reading English ability of the Eight grade of SMP Negeri 14 Surakarta, (2) to find out the students’ reading ability of the eight grade of SMP N 14 Surakarta, and (3) to find out whether or not there is correlation of study between Students’ reading interest and students’ reading ability of students in grade Eight SMP Negeri 14 Surakarta in the Academic year 2024/2025. This researcher was conducted at the eight grade of SMP Negeri 14 Surakarta in the academic year 2024/2025. Researcher used quantitative methods with correlation techniques. The researcher give questionnaire to 30 participants in order to gather the data Students’ reading interest in learning reading English in a class. The questionnaire used consisted of 30 items. Then, to measure the ability reading students, this research used a reading test for students. In this researsh was used random sampling technjque to collect the data. In data analysis, students’ questionnaires were measured using a Likert Scale, and reading tests were measured using Suharsimi Arikunto’s categories reading achievement. The findings of this research indicate that there are positive about correlation of research between students’ reading interest and students’ reading English ability. It is proven by the results of calculation of ((rxy) 0.615) > rtable in the significant table 5% (0.374) and 1% (0.478). Then, it can be concluded that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is therefore deemed to be accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. Therefore, in this research it can be concluded that there is a positive the correlation of research between students’ reading interest and students’ reading English ability. This means students’ reading interest has higher impact, the better students’ reading ability. Keywords : Reading Interest, Reading English Ability, Correlational Study

Abstract

This research describes how Joker movie's portrayal of main character’s mental health was affected by child abuse. Descriptive qualitative method was employed in this study. It concentrated on the effects of child abuse. The Joker movie and its script were used as the research data. The researcher obtained well-structured, conveniently analyzed research data by note-taking, documentation the investigation, and acquired still photos from movies. The psychoanalysis theory of Sigmund Freud (1960) provides the framework for the data analysis method employed in this study. The findings of the research showed that the effects of child abuse that main character got as a child were mental disorders, namely Pseudobulbar Affect and Schizophrenia. Arthur Fleck's id and ego were the basis for the effects of child abuse seen in this film. Arthur's id was evident when he believed that his life is unfairness. Arthur's ego was evident when he killed those who had wronged him. The manifestation of Arthur's superego was evident in his refusal to kill those who had no issues with him and in his parental upbringing. Abstract

 This research was conducted to analyze and find out the speech act that occurred in ‘Jojo Rabbit’ movie. This research also analyzed (1) the locutionary act that found in main character’s utterances in ‘Jojo Rabbit’ movie, (2) the illocutionary act that found in main character’s utterances in ‘Jojo Rabbit’ movie, (3) the perlocutionary act that found in main character’s utterances in ‘Jojo Rabbit’ movie, (4) the directive speech act that found in main character’s utterances in ‘Jojo Rabbit’ movie. The researcher conducted this research in the library of Slamet Riyadi University. Method that used in this research was qualitative descriptive and data in this research were collected through documentation and observation. The researcher watched the ‘Jojo Rabbit’ movie several times, read the transcript of the ‘Jojo Rabbit’ movie, and then marked the dialogue and identified the locutionary act, illocutionary act, perlocutionary act, and directive speech act. The findings of this research showed that in ‘Jojo Rabbit’ movie, there were 205 utterances of locutionary act. There were 205 utterances of illocutonary act, classified into 91 of assertives, 10 of declaratives, 71 of directives, 11 of commisives, 22 of expressives. There were 202 utterances of perlocutionary act, classified into 87 times to inform, 24 times to convince, 11 times to confess, 21 times to cause the listener to do something, 48 times to cause the listener to answer question, 5 times to greet, and 6 times to approve. There were 71 utterances that considered as directive speech act, classified into 15 of commanding, 44 of questioning, 3 of prohibiting, 1 of permissioning, and 8 of requesting. The research analyzed speech acts in the movie "Jojo Rabbit," focusing on the main character's utterances using a qualitative descriptive method. It identified 205 locutionary and illocutionary acts, categorized into assertives, declaratives, directives, commissives, and expressives, and 202 perlocutionary acts with outcomes like informing, convincing, and prompting actions. Additionally, 71 directive speech acts were classified into commanding, questioning, prohibiting, permissioning, and requesting, highlighting the complexity of the main character's communication strategies.
