Abstract

Analysis of multi-ethnic audience reception of racism in the video clip of the song This is America. This study aims to determine how the audience's reception of racism in the video clip of the song This is America. In the video clip of the song This is America contains scenes that are full of violence. When the MV for this song was released, there were various reactions and controversies. By using qualitative research methods data obtained through interviews and observations. Then the data analysis technique is divided into three steps, data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. Based on the theory of encoding - decoding, the position of the audience is divided into three, dominant hegemonic, negotiating and opposition. The results of the study show various reactions and opinions from multi-ethnic audiences towards racism in the video clip of the song. With the opinion of each audience, it is concluded that their position is in a dominant and negotiating hegemonic position.

Abstract

This study aims to determine how the e-marketing message packaging strategy on food vloggers through social media. Meanwhile, there is a content creator who has succeeded in being popular and liked by several audiences through the culinary review content he presents, namely Muhammad Almas Qalbi or a TikTok account with the username @almasqol. Almas is a pioneer food vlogger using TikTok as a platform. What makes Almas different from other food vloggers is how Almas uses cultural proximity in its e-marketing message packaging strategy on its social media. Submission of communication style by maximizing the use of East Javanese language is used as one of the identities formed on social media. Qualitative research methods using a case study approach are deemed appropriate to be used in this study. By conducting in-depth interviews with several sources related to the information needed by researchers. As a result, the East Javanese language swearing, which turned out to be liked by the audience, encouraged Almas to voice his slogans in every video. Various kinds of content are uploaded by prioritizing the unique message packaging aspect, namely using the East Javanese language with a distinctive medok accent. Message packaging still prioritizes how the content of the message is conveyed by combining several aspects such as rationality, freedom of expression (customization), humor, entertainment (entertain), interaction, trends and word of mouth. Almas uses cultural closeness in terms of the area of origin and also the East Javanese language as a characteristic that is identical to it. Abstract

The incident of the rise of murals criticizing the government during the pandemic carried out by the public to express unrest due to the COVID-19 pandemic crisis was responded to by the authorities by removing murals and summoning mural makers for various reasons. According to many parties, the reaction of the apparatus in removing murals is considered a form of backwardness to democracy and the principle of freedom of expression in Indonesia. The media as one of the pillars of democracy plays a role in supervising power, so it is important to see its role in the reporting process of the rampant mural action which was marked by the removal of murals by the authorities. However, there are many interests that affect the reporting of a media, one of which is the interest of media ownership. Therefore, the media Tempo.co and Media Indonesia were chosen as research subjects to compare the framing of the news in the incident of the rise of murals criticizing the government during the pandemic. To see the reality behind the discourse of the mass media, framing analysis is used with the model proposed by Zhongdang Pan and Gerald M. Kosicki. The results found that both media framed the event with the interests of each media. Tempo.co framed the event by taking sides with the mural action by the community. Meanwhile, Media Indonesia tends to frame events by glorifying the removal of murals. Keywords: Framing, Media, Mural, Tempo.co, Media Indonesia

Abstract

Two television stations RCTI and INews sued the Broadcasting Law to the Constitutional Court so that Over-The-Top (OTT) services are also regulated in the Broadcasting Law. This was done by RCTI and INews because there are no special regulations binding OTT services and they feel it is unfair if broadcasting in OTT is not regulated in the Broadcasting Law. This event was then widely reported by various online media, including Sindonews.com and Detik.com. Media ownership is considered to affect news writing in a media. This study uses a qualitative approach using the analysis of framing models of Pan and Kosicki. The object used in this research is news from online media Sindonews.com and Detik.com. The results of the framing analysis show that Sindonews.com's attempt to frame the lawsuits by RCTI and INews is a good thing, while the frame from Detik.com's news report states otherwise. This research shows that the media report something according to the agenda of their respective interests. The framing of the two online media suggests there is a hidden agenda from both media.

Abstract

Information and technology will continue to develop, social media is a given means of advances in technology and information. Social media is in great demand by various groups, social media that is popular and in great demand by the audience is Instagram. In Instagram, there are many Influencers who are someone who has an influence on their followers, one of which is Nadya Luqyana. Nadya is a woman uses a vape, in her content she often uses a vape in her uploads. The S-O-R (Stimulus – Organism – Response) theory is the theory used in this study, which is to find out how Nadya's Instagram followers behave towards her uploads, and also with the help of two theories to assist this research, namely media exposure theory and attitude theory. The approach used in this research is quantitative and uses the method of distributing surveys or questionnaires or questionnaires. The sampling technique used is random sampling because the sample will be taken at random, so each respondent in the population will have the same opportunity to be selected as a sample. The number of followers that will be used as research is 100 people and distributed using a questionnaire link via Google Form and how to calculate the score assisted by a Likert scale. The results of the data from filling out the questionnaire were processed using Product Moment correlation, Cronbach's Alpha, and Spearman Rank correlation. In the hypothesis test it produces a significance value of 0.000 and the value is smaller than 0.050 , then Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted, that is, there is a positive and significant influence of the Instagram Upload variable on the Follower Attitude variable and the correlation value is 0.461 which is on a scale between 0 .40 – 0.599, so it can be explained that the influence is quite strong and significant between the two variables.

Abstract

Until now, technology has grown rapidly and has produced business tools for business people to increase brand awareness of a product to consumers. One of them is the Mendoan Podcast, which uses a digital marketing strategy to increase brand awareness among consumers or their listeners. The main purpose of this research is to find out whether there is an influence between "Digital marketing on Brand awareness of Javanese Podcasts". This research uses a quantitative approach by using a survey method or method. The sampling method used is the purposive sampling method with illustrations of 100 respondents who have been identified as listeners and follow Mendoan's Instagram Podcast. The method of collecting information is by sowing a questionnaire link through a Google form which is distributed online and calculating the information score using a Likert scale. Analysis of research data conducted by the author is a simple linear regression analysis technique in order to determine the effect of variable X (Digital Marketing) on variable Y (Brand Awareness). Based on the results of the linear regression test conducted by the researcher, it can be seen that the digital marketing variable has a correlation value of 0.416 on Brand Awareness with an effect of 17.3%. So that it shows that there is a significant positive influence between digital marketing on brand awareness.

Abstract

The effectiveness of a government system is largely determined by the good and bad implementation of public services. The Banyuwangi Regency Government, which has mostly rural areas, has major challenges in improving services, including limited access and social restrictions due to the pandemic. This fact is the reason the Banyuwangi Regency Government created the Village Flower program. This research aims to find out how the organizational communication of the Banyuwangi Regency Government improves public services through Bunga Desa Program. Using a qualitative method with a case study approach, researchers hope to collect empirical and factual data on organizational communication applied by the Banyuwangi district government. The systems approach theory by Richard Farace is used to see the components, processes, and properties of the system in the Banyuwangi District Government in the Bunga Desa program that affect the improvement of public services in the village.

Abstract

Scout Movement is organization that focuses on building character of young people. In 2013 curriculum, Scout Movement included as mandatory extracurricular at primary and secondary school. However, people assume that Scout Movement is not in line with organization’s expectations. Based on this reason, Scout Movement needs to build a good image in society. This study aims to find out the strategy from public relations of East Java Scout Movement provincial council in building an organizational image. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach with case study research methods. Data was collected through interviews, observation, and documentation. This study results showed that Public Relations of East Java Scout Movement Provincial Council used several strategies to build an organizational image, namely the strategy of publication, event, and news. Publication strategy was conducted through online, electronic, and print media. Event strategy included activities that provided benefits to the community. News strategy was conducted through online, electronic, and print media.

Abstract

The covid 19 pandemic has turned the world of education into online learning. SAIM schools that carry the concept of integrated, joyful and cooperative learning where learning should be maximized when face to face, then must be familiar with online learning. This study aims to determine the application of communication strategies by Alam Insan Mulia (SAIM) Surabaya school teachers in applying the concepts of integrated, joyful and cooperative learning by using qualitative descriptive research methods and case studies. The results of this study indicate that SAIM which has 3 learning concepts, integrated, joyful and cooperative learning where the three concepts are used during face-to-face learning are also used during online learning. It's just that the 3 concepts have differences in the process. These differences lead to the methods and media used by modifying and demanding teachers to be more creative and communicative in the practice of 3 learning concepts. In addition, the role of parents is also greater because learning cannot be carried out at school but at home, so that more intense communication is needed between parents and teachers for the development of their students.

Abstract

The research conducted is an analysis of the Horror genre films entitled Hereditary (2018) and Midsommar (2019). The approach used for this research is a qualitative approach, which focuses on analyzing genre characteristics to examine data on a media using a schema of the basic genre repertoire of elements of Nick Lacey's to describe the character of the film genre. Hereditary and Midsommar films have the characteristics of the dominant Occult Horror genre and strong neo-paganism. The results of this study found a pattern in the Occult Horror genre that prioritizes the side of the neopagan group which can be seen based on showing certain symbols and ceremonies that involve human sacrifice explicitly through narration, characters, setting or background, iconography, and style or format. The literature review that researchers used in this study included film texts and genres, genre theory, occult horror genre films, Hereditary and Midsommar films. From the analysis carried out by the researchers, it was found that scenes that can cause horror about unusual things, the supernatural including religious groups are the main things in these two films. Both films have won multiple awards for their disturbing and disgusting narratives and plots, explicit scenes of sadistic murder and how disturbed mental health can lead to a series of problems.
