Abstract

Aeroponics is a method of hydroponic cultivation where plant roots are suspended in the air and nutrients are supplied through misting. The temperature and humidity control system, along with the monitoring mechanism, was designed using an ESP32 microcontroller. Input was provided by DHT22 and HC-SR04 sensors, while actuators consisted of mini fans and pumps. Through the integration of an Internet of Things (IoT) system, data on temperature, humidity, and water levels in the nutrient solution were monitored via the Blynk IoT application on smartphones. The results indicated that the DHT22 sensor measured temperatures within the range of 25°C to 26°C, with an average error of 0.79, and humidity levels above 70%, with an average error of 0.34.The data were processed using the Tsukamoto fuzzy method to determine the pump operating time and the PWM value for the mini fan. The HC-SR04 sensor recorded water levels between 10.1 cm and 11.5 cm, with an average error of 0.46, which was displayed using red and green LED indicators. Monitoring via the Blynk IoT application successfully presented both data and graphs of sensor readings. The entire system functioned as designed, effectively maintaining the temperature and humidity in the aeroponic pak choi plant watering container.

Abstract

This research examines the design and construction of the electrical system for the UG-22 car, the reduction of resistance in its electrical system, and the impact of these improvements on the car's results in the Energy Efficient Car Competition. The study describes the stages involved in designing and building the electrical system for the competition, as well as in optimizing the existing system, using the UG-22 car's electrical system as the object of study. Two optimization steps were taken: first, replacing the cable material with a type that has lower resistance; second, adding a grounding system to the car. The system design had to comply with the competition regulations, and the results show that optimizing the electrical system reduced electricity consumption in the UG-22 car. Cable resistance was reduced to 2.2 ohms, a decrease of 48.3%, and adding the grounding system reduced the voltage drop by 2 volts. As a result, electricity consumption was reduced by 49.71%, from 60 joules to 30.5 joules.

Abstract

Small-scale water-treatment units often rely on manually sequenced pumps, mixers, and chemical dosing, which can cause inconsistent operation and limited process visibility. This study develops and evaluates a laboratory-scale automation system based on an Omron CP1H-XA40DR-A programmable logic controller (PLC) integrated with a Wonderware InTouch supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) interface. The main contribution is a low-complexity PLC-SCADA architecture that combines one-button sequential operation with quantitative evaluation of functional logic, HMI response, batch-volume repeatability, and chlorine-dose screening. The system was developed through requirement analysis, electrical and mechanical design, ladder-program implementation, SCADA visualization, fabrication, and experimental testing. Functional testing covered six command-state combinations, HMI response time was measured for seven components, and ten filling cycles were analyzed for water-height and volume consistency. Calcium hypochlorite was screened at calculated masses of 4.44 mg and 13.33 mg for 2 L batches. All six control-state tests were successful. Mean HMI response time was 0.543 ± 0.282 s (0.2-1.0 s). Mean water height and volume were 10.72 ± 0.13 cm and 2.236 ± 0.027 L, with coefficients of variation of 1.23% and 1.22%. At 4.44 mg, all ten samples were reported colorless and without detectable odor or taste; at 13.33 mg, slight chlorine odor and slight bitter taste were each reported in five samples. The prototype demonstrates reliable sequential control and repeatable laboratory-scale filling; however, the water-quality results are only organoleptic screening because residual chlorine, turbidity, pH, and microbiological safety were not measured.

Abstract

Early detection is crucial in preventing diseases caused by high blood glucose, cholesterol, and uric acid levels through routine examinations. However, current testing devices are invasive, uncomfortable, complex, and generate medical waste. Therefore, this study aimed to develop and design a non-invasive measurement tool for these three parameters using the MAX30102 sensor. This research applied the Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE model, adapted to the laboratory testing stage. The infrared values measured by the MAX30102 sensor on the fingertip were converted into mg/dL for blood glucose, cholesterol, and uric acid using a linear regression method to form regression equations. The converted data were then compared with standard devices to assess their accuracy. Additionally, a moving average filter was applied to reduce noise, smooth the signal, and balance the response to data changes. The measurement results were displayed on an OLED screen, a smartphone application for monitoring history and providing health information, and a speaker announcing the result categories. The results of the study showed that the cholesterol measurement accuracy was 89.71%, with an error rate of 10.29%, the uric acid accuracy was 92.98%, with an error rate of 7.02%, and the blood glucose accuracy was 92.64%, with an error rate of 7.36%.

Abstract

Attitude stabilization of a tricopter unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is challenging because its asymmetric three-rotor configuration and servo-actuated rear rotor introduce coupled and disturbance-sensitive rotational dynamics. This study develops and experimentally evaluates an integral-augmented Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR-I) for roll, pitch, and yaw stabilization of a physical tricopter UAV. The controller was implemented on an embedded flight controller using inertial measurements from an MPU6050 and was evaluated through tuning-rig experiments and outdoor free-flight tests under measured wind disturbances. A conventional LQR was used as the baseline controller. To ensure a consistent comparison, the performance of both controllers was evaluated under the same measured wind speed of 4.4 m/s. Under this condition, LQR-I reduced pitch overshoot from 9.03° to 2.85° and yaw overshoot from 13.43° to 3.35°, corresponding to reductions of approximately 68.4% and 75.1%, respectively. Roll overshoot increased slightly from 5.25° to 5.47°. The magnitude of the steady-state error was reduced by approximately 56.6%, 16.6%, and 50.6% for the roll, pitch, and yaw axes, respectively. In addition, the root mean square error (RMSE) decreased from 2.451° to 2.065° for roll, from 3.397° to 2.542° for pitch, and from 2.744° to 1.227° for yaw. These experimental results demonstrate that integral augmentation improves the overall disturbance-rejection and attitude-tracking performance of the tricopter, particularly in the pitch and yaw axes, although a slight increase in roll overshoot was observed.

Abstract

This research designs and implements a real-time power consumption control system on an OpenWRT-based MikroTik hAP ac² router using a PID Controller on an ESP32 microcontroller. The system utilizes the INA219 sensor to precisely measure power consumption and accesses network parameters such as throughput, latency, and the number of active users through the Open-WRT module to adjust power control to network conditions. The research method was carried out by testing nine PID parameter configurations and one uncontrolled configuration for comparison. Each configuration was tested under various network load scenarios, with power consumption and network performance data continuously recorded. The analysis was conducted using ITAE (Integral Time Absolute Error) calculations to evaluate control quality, and ANOVA statistical testing to determine the significance of differences between configurations. The test results showed that the optimal PID con-figuration (Kp = 1,5; Ki = 0,5; Kd = 0,2) was able to reduce average power consumption to 7,418 W with an ITAE of 2.419 and stable throughput. This research provides an effective contribution for implementation in small-to-medium scale energy-efficient networks.

Abstract

Altitude regulation is essential for maintaining stable hovering and supporting autonomous operation in tricopter unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), whose asymmetric propulsion and rear-rotor tilt mechanism introduce additional control challenges. This study designs, implements, and experimentally evaluates a Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR)-based altitude-hold controller for a Y- configured tricopter equipped with an inertial sensing module and a downward-facing ultrasonic range sensor for low-altitude feedback. Attitude stabilization was first evaluated using an indoor tuning rig before the complete system was tested under actual flight conditions. The altitude controller was evaluated at reference altitudes of 0.40, 0.85, and 1.25 m and under intentional downward disturbances at a reference altitude of 1.25 m. Across five disturbance trials, the system achieved a mean rise time of 0.513 ± 0.223 s, a mean settling time of 1.113 ± 0.313 s, and a mean steady- state error of 0.0344 ± 0.0069 m. Overshoot occurred in three trials and remained between 1.39% and 1.56%. Without intentional disturbances, steady-state errors of 0.0115, 0.0233, and 0.0064 m were obtained at reference altitudes of 0.40, 0.85, and 1.25 m, respectively. These results demonstrate that the proposed controller can maintain low-altitude hovering and recover from external vertical disturbances within the predefined performance requirements of the tested tricopter platform.

Abstract

Manual parking systems suffer from weaknesses such as inefficiency, the risk of human error, and the prevalence of illegal parking and unauthorized fees. Therefore, an automated parking system is needed to improve efficiency, reduce human error, and facilitate integrated monitoring and management of parking. This system is designed to perform automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) and monitor parking activities, thereby reducing human error and enhancing user convenience. The system is designed using the PaddleOCR method, a deep learning-based OCR framework capable of reading text on vehicle license plates with high accuracy. The license plate recognition process begins with the detection of the license plate location, followed by reading the plate using the PaddleOCR method combined with image pre-processing and post-processing techniques. The resulting data from the license plate reading is transmitted to the Firebase and SQLite databases and monitored through the MIT App Inventor application. By integrating Raspberry Pi 5, a webcam, an OLED display, and an LED, this system is expected to optimize automated parking systems. Test results show that the developed system has excellent performance. The PaddleOCR model, combined with pre-processing and post-processing techniques, achieved a license plate character reading accuracy of 87.5%. This success was supported by the YOLOv10n detection model, which detected license plates with 90% accuracy under real-world testing conditions. All hardware components, such as the OLED display, LED, and buzzer, functioned with 100% reliability in providing notifications, and the system successfully transmitted data consistently to the Firebase, SQLite databases, and the monitoring application without any issues.
