Abstract

Changes in the business environment and the acceleration of digital transformation have encouraged micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to adapt in order to remain competitive in the digital market. E-commerce has become a strategic solution as it enables market expansion with relatively low costs. However, low digital literacy and limited technical understanding remain major barriers for MSMEs in utilizing e-commerce platforms effectively. Therefore, this community service program focused on enhancing MSME capacity through training on the use of Shopee e-commerce as an initial step toward marketing digitalization. The program employed a face-to-face training method combining lectures and hands-on practice. The training materials covered product readiness for digital markets, the introduction of Shopee’s basic marketing features, and practical management of the Shopee Seller Center. Participants were trained to create and manage online stores, upload products, prepare product descriptions, and organize store displays. The results indicate that participants successfully created active Shopee stores and improved their basic digital literacy and readiness to adopt e-commerce as a marketing channel for MSMEs supported by Rumah BUMN BRI Bandung.

Abstract

Household waste management, particularly used cooking oil (waste cooking oil), remains an environmental issue due to low public awareness and limited understanding of sustainable waste management practices. Improper disposal of used cooking oil can lead to environmental pollution and pose health risks. This community service activity aims to improve students’ knowledge and skills in processing used cooking oil into value-added aromatherapy candles, while fostering environmental awareness and an entrepreneurial spirit based on the green economy. The method applied is Community Based Participatory Research (CBPR), conducted in two stages: delivery of theoretical material on the 3R concept (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) and hands-on practice in processing used cooking oil. The activity was carried out at SMK Negeri 9 Semarang involving 23 students. The results indicate an increase in participants’ understanding, as shown by improvements in scores on 3R education (from 59.5 to 83.3) and used cooking oil processing (from 50 to 85). In addition, students were able to produce aesthetically pleasing aromatherapy candles with economic value potential.

Abstract

Open Defecation (OD) along riverbanks constitutes a multidimensional sanitation challenge rooted in cultural normalization, limited infrastructure, and the absence of binding local regulations. This community engagement program aims to transform sanitation behavior among residents of Berembang Village, Muaro Jambi Regency, through an integrative intervention model that combines Participatory Action Research (PAR) with Community-Led Total Sanitation (CLTS). The intervention procedure comprises three sequential stages: (1) triggering and social mapping to build collective awareness and identify high-risk OD locations; (2) policy and institutional advocacy to promote the formulation of a Village Regulation draft on sanitation; and (3) a stimulus-based infrastructure intervention through the distribution of SNI-standard squat toilets to Low-Income Communities (LICs). Program evaluation was conducted using a participatory monitoring approach with data source triangulation. The results indicate: in the cultural dimension, the establishment of an anti-OD “Social Contract” reflecting a shift in social norms; in the institutional dimension, the development of a Village Regulation draft as a long-term instrument of social control; and in the physical dimension, improved access to proper sanitation for vulnerable groups through a community-based self-help (gotong royong) development model. The “Behavior Change Triangle” model—integrating software (awareness), hardware (facilities), and rules (regulations)—has proven effective as a strategy to accelerate the achievement of Open Defecation Free (ODF) status in riparian areas.
