Animal Production: Indonesian Journal of Animal Production is a peer-reviewed journal published by the Faculty of Animal Science, Jenderal Soedirman University in association with the Animal Scientist Society of Indonesia (ISPI), the Indonesian Association of Nutrition and Feed Science (AINI), and the Indonesian Veterinary Medical Association (PDHI). The journal was established in 1999 and gained its first accreditation No. 52/Dikti/Kep/2002 by the Directorate General of Higher Education (DIKTI), Department of National Education of the Republic of Indonesia subsequently followed by accreditation No. 81/DIKTI/Kep/2011. The latest accreditation was in 2017 by the Directorate General or Research and Development, Ministry of Research and Technology and Higher Education (Kemristekdikti) No. 32a/E/KPT/2017. Animal Production: Indonesian Journal of Animal Production is listed in SINTA index and gained Score 2 No. 30/E/KPT/2018. Animal Production: Indonesian Journal of Animal Production publishes three times a year, starting in 2005 and available online since May 4, 2011. The journal coverage focused on small-scale livestock farming and technologies, including the recent scientific development in animal production, including all aspects of nutrition, breeding, reproduction, post-harvest processing, and socio-economics. All articles are available online. The full text is available in pdf format and can be downloaded for free. Animal Production: Indonesian Journal of Animal Production has been indexed by Crossref, SINTA, Google Scholar, BASE, OAJI, and Dimensions. Abstract

Stunting syndrome in broilers is a growth disorder characterized by reduced feed efficiency, slow weight gain, and higher mortality, often caused by digestive disturbances and poor nutrient absorption. Moringa oleifera leaves are rich in protein, vitamins, minerals, and bioactive compounds with antioxidant and antibacterial properties, making them a potential natural supplement to enhance growth and health in stunted chickens. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of Moringa oleifera leaf meal supplementation on the growth performance of broilers experiencing stunting syndrome. A total of 100 one-day-old broiler chicks diagnosed with stunting syndrome were reared for five weeks and assigned to five dietary treatments containing 0, 4, 6, 8, and 10% Moringa oleifera leaf meal in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four replications, each consisting of five birds. Parameters observed included feed consumption, body weight gain, feed conversion ratio, performance index, and mortality rate. Data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), and means were compared using Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT). Results showed that Moringa oleifera supplementation had a highly significant effect (P<0.01) on feed consumption, body weight gain, performance index, and mortality, but no significant effect (P>0.05) on feed conversion ratio. It can be concluded that the dietary inclusion of 8–10% Moringa oleifera leaf meal effectively improves growth performance and survival rate in stunting-affected broilers.

Abstract

Embryo transfer (ET) is a reproductive biotechnology used to accelerate the dissemination of superior genetics. However, its success under Indonesian tropical conditions remains variable and may be influenced by physiological and adaptive differences between dairy and beef cattle used as embryo donors. This study compared in vivo embryo production between Holstein-Friesian (HF) and Limousin donor cattle. The study was designed as a comparative observational study using selected donor cattle, comprising 11 HF and 25 Limousin cows maintained under standardized ET management. The observed parameters included superovulatory response, represented by the number of corpora lutea (CL), total ova/embryos collected, fertile embryos, transferable embryos, embryo quality, response rate, and recovery rate. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, and breed differences were analyzed using Welch’s independent t-test when variance heterogeneity was detected, and Cohen’s d was used to estimate effect size. Limousin cows showed higher CL counts than HF cows (12.72 ± 6.98 vs. 6.55 ± 2.88; P < 0.001), produced more total ova/embryos (11.44 ± 6.45 vs. 6.00 ± 3.00; P < 0.001), fertile embryos (9.16 ± 5.17 vs. 3.45 ± 2.81; P < 0.001), and transferable embryos (5.76 ± 4.29 vs. 1.91 ± 2.07; P < 0.001). Response rate between HF and Limousin cows was 94.12% vs. 92.86%, as was the recovery rate (89.92% vs. 90.12%). Overall, these findings indicate that under the conditions of this study, Limousin cattle exhibited higher superovulatory responses and embryo production than HF cattle, although breed-specific protocol optimization remains necessary.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the characteristics of goat farmers in the implementation of Good Farming Practices (GFP) in dryland areas. The study was conducted in the Biboki Anleu, North Bikomi, and North Insana sub-districts of North Central Timor Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province, from June to August 2024. Data were collected from 318 goat farmers with at least two years of farming experience. The study locations were selected through purposive sampling based on accessibility, the highest goat population, and proximity to the border area. The survey method involved direct field interviews and observations of goat husbandry practices. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and frequency distributions. The results showed that the average age of the farmers was 47.74 years, and their primary occupation was farming. The majority were male, had completed only elementary school, and had received minimal training or extension services; their average farming experience was 9.69 years. The average herd size was 9.90 goats. However, the adoption of GFP among the farmers was notably low. In conclusion, the study indicated that the characteristics of goat farmers in the study area reflected limited resources and knowledge, which contributed to the inadequate adoption of GFP.

Abstract

This study was conducted to examine the effectiveness of Trametes versicolor, Phanerochaete chrysosporium, Lentinula edodes, and a consortium (Trametes versicolor + Phanerochaete chrysosporium) in enhancing the nutrient content and reducing the fiber fraction of fermented lemongrass waste. This study was conducted at the Faculty of Agriculture, Syiah Kuala University. Using the completely randomized design (CRD) with 5 treatments and 4 replicates, this study examined dry matter, crude protein, crude fiber, crude fat, ash, NFE, ADF, NDF, cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin, and methane emissions. The data were analyzed using ANOVA, followed by Duncan’s multiple range test. This study concludes there is a numerical trend toward higher crude protein content in treatment P4 (Consortium; 5.51 ± 1.26) compared with the control (4.12 ± 0.32); however, the difference was not statistically significant (p = 0.06). However, in the fiber fraction analysis, the NDF content was lowest in the control group (59.68±0.34) compared to treatments P1, P2, P3, and P4. The control treatment exhibited the highest methane emission (7.1 × 10⁴ ppm), whereas the consortium treatment (P4) produced the lowest methane emission (2.96 × 10⁴ ppm). ANOVA revealed a significant effect of treatment on methane emissions (p = 0.009), and Duncan's multiple range test confirmed that the consortium treatment differed significantly from the control. The greatest reduction in the consortium treatment indicates a synergistic effect among the fungi in modifying the substrate, thereby more effectively suppressing methane formation.
