Abstract

Neonatal mortality remains a global challenge, particularly in cases of neonatal asphyxia that require immediate and appropriate resuscitation management. Neonatal resuscitation competence is an essential skill for midwifery students.  This study aimed to analyse the effectiveness of video-based multimedia learning in improving neonatal resuscitation competence among undergraduate midwifery students. A quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control group design was used involving 110 seventh-semester Midwifery students selected through purposive sampling. Participants were divided into and intervention groups (n=55) that received video-based learning and a control group (n=55) that received conventional lecturing. Students' understanding was assessed using questionnaires, while resuscitation skills were evaluated using OSCE observation sheets. Data were analysed using an independent sample t-test with a significance level of p<0.05. The results showed significant improvement in students’ understanding scores, from 52.65 to 85.98 (p<0.001), while practical resuscitation competence increased from 18.2% to 81.8% after the intervention. Video-based multimedia learning was effective in improving neonatal resuscitation competence and may serve as an innovative learning strategy to support neonatal emergency preparedness among students.

Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) has increasingly become a source of health information for parents, yet its role in supporting preparedness for pediatric emergencies remains unclear. This study examined the relationships between dimensions of AI-assisted health information seeking and mothers’ preparedness for pediatric emergencies. A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 385 mothers with children aged 0–12 years in Indonesia. Data were collected through an online questionnaire measuring AI-assisted health information seeking, including frequency of use, trust in AI, perceived usefulness, and information verification, as well as preparedness for pediatric emergencies. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, and multiple linear regression in IBM SPSS Statistics version 27. Information verification showed the strongest positive association with preparedness, whereas frequency of AI use demonstrated only a weak correlation.. Multiple linear regression revealed that information verification was the strongest predictor of preparedness (β = 0.41, p < 0.001), followed by perceived usefulness (β = 0.18, p < 0.001) and trust in AI (β = 0.12, p = 0.004). Frequency of AI use was not significantly associated with preparedness (p = 0.102). The model explained 38% of the variance in preparedness scores. Mothers’ preparedness for pediatric emergencies is influenced more by critical engagement with AI-generated information than by the frequency of AI use. Strengthening AI literacy and information verification skills may enhance the safe and effective use of AI in child health decision-making.

Abstract

Low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) bear a disproportionate burden of mortality from ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI), largely due to difficulties in meeting the recommended door-to-balloon (D2B) time of ≤90 minutes, a delay proven to increase in-hospital mortality. This review aims to identify and map the factors influencing door-to-balloon (D2B) delay in ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) patients in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). This study employed a literature review methodology to identify factors influencing door-to-balloon (D2B) delays in STEMI patients in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). A systematic search following PRISMA guidelines was conducted in ProQuest, Google Scholar, and EBSCO for publications from 2021–2025 using PCC-based keywords related to LMICs, STEMI, reperfusion, and delay. The results of this review show that factors causing door-to-balloon (D2B) delay can be grouped into four main pillars. Internal hospital factors were the most dominant, followed by patient-related factors, pre-hospital system barriers, and external factors such as pandemics and conflicts that further prolonged delays. It is recommended to strengthen collective commitment and synergy among all stakeholders, including policymakers, hospital management, healthcare workers, pre-hospital personnel, and the community. Improvements should be implemented through a simultaneous, holistic approach to achieve significant, sustainable outcomes.

Abstract

Abortion is often perceived as a common issue among adolescents due to its frequent portrayal in electronic and print media. Abortion-prevention behavior refers to actions aimed at preventing abortion and its associated adverse health consequences. At Nuruddin Islamic Boarding School, reproductive health education and counseling on abortion prevention had not been provided by healthcare professionals. This study aimed to identify factors associated with abortion-prevention behavior among students at Nuruddin Islamic Boarding School in Sungai Sarik Village. A quantitative study with an analytical cross-sectional design was conducted among 100 students selected through systematic random sampling from a population of 121 students. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate (Chi-square test) analyses, and multivariable logistic regression. The findings revealed that 58% of respondents demonstrated poor abortion-prevention behavior. Multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that attitude (p = 0,011), knowledge (p = 0,012), and the role of healthcare providers (p = 0,016) were significantly associated with abortion-prevention behavior. Among these factors, attitude emerged as the most influential predictor. Attitude, knowledge, and the role of healthcare providers were significant determinants of abortion-prevention behavior among adolescents. Strengthening positive attitudes, improving reproductive health knowledge, and increasing healthcare provider involvement in reproductive health education and counseling may enhance abortion-prevention behavior and contribute to reducing the risk of unintended pregnancy and unsafe abortion among adolescents.

Abstract

The Appropriate Use Criteria (AUC), developed by the American College of Cardiology Foundation, serve as a guideline to optimize patient selection for percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI); however, their association with clinical outcomes remains unclear. This systematic review examines the relationship between AUC classification and clinical outcomes in patients undergoing PCI for stable ischemic heart disease and acute coronary syndrome, based on publications retrieved from The Cochrane Library, EMBASE, and MEDLINE from January 2009 to October 2024, including studies utilizing the 2009 and 2012 AUC versions as well as a country-specific adaptation. Five studies comprising 55,687 patients met the inclusion criteria. Two studies assessed short-term and in-hospital clinical outcomes; one reported a higher incidence of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) among patients receiving inappropriate PCI. At the same time, the other found no significant impact of AUC classification on short-term outcomes. Regarding long-term outcomes, three out of four studies found no significant association between AUC classification and long-term clinical outcomes. Taken together, the available evidence remains limited and inconsistent, underscoring the need to refine the AUC framework further to ensure a more evidence-based approach to guiding patient selection and improving outcomes among patients undergoing PCI.

Abstract

Rhinolithiasis is a rare condition caused by progressive mineral deposition around retained secretions or foreign material within the nasal cavity. Diagnosis may be challenging because its clinical and radiological manifestations can resemble other chronic sinonasal diseases. We report a case of a 70-year-old woman who presented with progressive left-sided nasal obstruction, foul-smelling nasal discharge, headache, and mild epistaxis for six months. Computed tomography revealed a heterogeneous calcified mass involving the left maxillary sinus and nasal cavity, initially suspected as a sinonasal fibroma. Functional endoscopic sinus surgery was performed, and intraoperative findings demonstrated a large rhinolith occupying the maxillary sinus, middle meatus, and nasal cavity. Complete removal of the lesion resulted in symptom resolution and a favorable early postoperative recovery. This case highlights that massive sinonasal rhinolithiasis can mimic benign sinonasal tumors on imaging. Careful endoscopic evaluation and surgical exploration are essential for establishing the diagnosis and providing definitive treatment.

Abstract

Documentation is a fundamental component of professional nursing practice, supporting clinical accountability, continuity of care, and patient safety. In prehospital emergency settings, documentation is often challenged by time constraints, dynamic environments, and limited standardization. This study explored ambulance nurses' experiences following the implementation of a standardized prehospital medical record form in a municipal emergency medical service in Indonesia. A qualitative descriptive design was conducted at a Public Safety Center (PSC 119) in an urban setting. Four active ambulance nurses participated in a two-week implementation of the standardized form. Data were collected through a focus group discussion and analyzed using inductive content analysis, with independent coding and an audit trail to enhance trustworthiness. Six themes emerged: perceived additional workload, clinical benefits, operational barriers, administrative and communication barriers, professional challenges in documenting clinical aspects, and expectations for system optimization. Although initially viewed as increasing the workload, the standardized form was perceived as improving systematic assessment and completeness of documentation. Time pressure, operational demands, and uncertainty regarding diagnostic authority affected nurses' confidence and documentation practices. Overall, standardized prehospital documentation offers important professional and patient safety benefits but requires workflow-sensitive implementation, organizational support, and strengthened clinical confidence within nurses' scope of practice to promote sustainable adoption.

Abstract

Formula feeding among infants aged 0-6 months remains a public health concern because it can reduce exclusive breastfeeding and increase infant health risks. This study aimed to identify factors associated with formula feeding among infants aged 0-6 months in the working area of Balai Jaya Health Center, Rokan Hilir Regency, in 2025. This research used a quantitative cross-sectional design. The population comprised all mothers of infants aged 0-6 months, and 74 respondents were selected through total sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires and analyzed through univariate analysis and chi-square tests at a significance level of p < 0.05. The results showed that 60.8% of infants received formula milk. Most mothers had low levels of knowledge, negative attitudes, were working, were exposed to formula milk promotion, and lacked family support. Bivariate analysis showed significant associations between knowledge, attitude, employment status, formula milk promotion, and family support and formula feeding (p-values = 0.000). This study concludes that these factors are associated with formula feeding. Therefore, continuous education, lactation counseling, workplace support, and family involvement are needed to strengthen exclusive breastfeeding practices and prevent inappropriate early formula use among infants in the local community.
