Abstract

The low utilization of Family Medicinal Plants (Tanaman Obat Keluarga/TOGA) in RT 14, Wonocatur Hamlet, was identified as a community health issue requiring attention. This community service program aimed to improve residents’ knowledge of the benefits and utilization of TOGA and to promote household self-reliance in maintaining health through promotive and preventive efforts. The program was implemented using a participatory approach, including community meetings, health education through plant card media, demonstrations of TOGA cultivation, and the distribution of TOGA seedling packages (TOGA kits) to residents. Program effectiveness was evaluated using pre-test and post-test assessments to measure changes in participants’ knowledge. The results showed a significant increase in knowledge, with the mean score rising from 80.00 in the pre-test to 96.67 in the post-test (p = 0.003). A total of 11 out of 12 participants experienced score improvement, while no decrease was observed in any participant. In addition, residents showed strong enthusiasm for utilizing the distributed TOGA seedlings. The use of plant card media was proven to support community understanding of essential information related to TOGA. Overall, this intervention was effective in improving community knowledge and participation in the use of TOGA as an independent and sustainable household health resource.

Abstract

This Community Service (PKM) activity aims to improve the memorization skills of students through a program to familiarize them with memorizing daily prayers at the Syubbanul Qur'an Islamic Boarding School (TPQ) in Jambangan, Surabaya. The background to this activity is based on the low ability to memorize daily prayers of students and the lack of habituation in daily life due to limited mentoring in the family environment. The method used in this activity is the Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) approach which emphasizes the utilization of potential and assets owned by the community. The stages of the activity include discovery, dream, design, and destiny which are carried out systematically and participatory. Data collection techniques are carried out through observation and interviews to determine the development of students' memorization skills and the effectiveness of the program. The results of the activity show an increase in the ability to memorize daily prayers, marked by an increase in the number of memorizations, fluency in pronunciation, and increased self-confidence of students. In addition, this program also has an impact on the formation of religious character, discipline, and positive habits in daily life. The program's success was supported by the active involvement of the ustadz/ustadzah (Islamic teacher) and parents, as well as a conducive learning environment. Despite several obstacles, such as differences in student abilities and time constraints, the program remained effective. Thus, the habit of memorizing daily prayers has proven to be an effective strategy for improving memorization skills and sustainably shaping the students' religious character.

Abstract

The Baduy community in Kanekes Village has economic potential based on traditional crafts with high cultural value, such as weaving and woven fabrics. However, the management of craft businesses is still carried out in a simple manner without a structured human resource (HR) management system. Problems faced include the lack of a clear division of tasks, inefficient production processes, and limited marketing strategies. These conditions hamper the optimal development of craft businesses. This community service activity aims to strengthen human resource management based on local wisdom in order to increase the capacity of traditional craft businesses in the Baduy community. The solution offered is training and mentoring on simple business management adapted to traditional values. Activities include socializing the importance of HR management, training on the division of labor within groups, improving production skills, and developing marketing strategies that respect local wisdom. The implementation method uses a participatory approach through the stages of preparation, training, mentoring, evaluation, and program sustainability. The community is actively involved in every stage of the activity to ensure the program's suitability to local socio-cultural conditions. This activity results in increased human resource capacity in craft business management, the establishment of a more organized work system, and an increased economic value of craft products. In addition, this activity is expected to produce a community empowerment model based on local wisdom and scientific publications in community service journals.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to enhance the understanding of local business actors in Kanekes Village (Baduy Luar) regarding the implementation of a sales information system to support the management and marketing of traditional handicraft products. The main problems faced by partners include unstructured transaction recording, low utilization of sales data, and business management that is still based on memory. The implementation method uses a participatory approach through socialization, training, hands-on practice, and mentoring, with data collection techniques carried out through interviews and field observations. The activity was conducted on April 17, 2026, involving MSME handicraft actors as the main partners. The results show an increase in business actors’ understanding of the importance of sales recording systems as a basis for business management. Participants began to be able to record transactions in a more structured and simple manner and utilize sales data to monitor business performance and identify the most in-demand products. In addition, there was a shift in business management patterns from memory-based to simple data-based systems. This activity also encouraged improvements in digital literacy through the introduction of social media utilization and digital marketing strategies. Overall, this program contributes to strengthening the capacity of business actors and supporting the more effective and sustainable development of traditional product marketing. Abstract

This research aims to develop a grammar checking system on abstracts of internship and thesis reports at the Faculty of Engineering, Gajah Putih University Takengon (UGP). This system is designed to detect errors in the use of words and tenses by utilizing the stemming method in the language analysis process. The application development approach uses the PHP programming language and the Code Igniter framework to optimize system performance. The research stages include needs analysis, system design, program code implementation, and application testing. The test results showed that the stemming method was able to effectively identify Tenses errors in the abstract of the internship report and thesis. This finding is expected to help students in compiling abstracts that are in accordance with academic English rules and support lecturers in the process of evaluating scientific papers. In addition, this system contributes to improving the quality of academic writing within the Faculty of Engineering UGP by providing practical, efficient, and integrated tools. Thus, the development of a grammar checking system based on PHP and Code Igniter can be an innovative solution in supporting the improvement of students' academic quality and language skills.

Abstract

This community service activity was conducted because the quality of bookkeeping and financial reporting in restaurants in Maguwoharjo Village is still relatively low. Profit and loss reports and financial position reports have not been well-designed because many micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) still record their finances manually. Business owners also cannot differentiate between personal and business finances, which makes it difficult for them to accurately understand their financial situation. The objective of this activity was to help five MSME restaurants (three Padang rice MSMEs, one soto stall, and one lying-down chicken MSME) prepare financial reports using the SIAPIK application. The implementation method included observation, training, mentoring on the use of SIAPIK, and evaluation. The results showed that the use of SIAPIK can improve the regularity of transaction bookkeeping, assist in preparing profit and loss reports and financial position reports, and improve business owners' understanding of their business's financial condition. MSME owners also began to be able to independently record transactions and separate personal and business finances. Thus, digitalization of financial bookkeeping through the SIAPIK application is a solution to help MSME restaurants in Maguwoharjo Village better manage the finances of their businesses.

Abstract

Critical thinking is an important competency that needs to be developed in students in the digital age. However, various technological disruptions and fast-paced information consumption habits can hinder students' ability to conduct in-depth analysis and evaluation. Therefore, this community service activity aims to improve the critical thinking and English writing skills of Fons Vitae 1 Senior High School students through film review writing training. The activity took place on April 23, 2026, involving 20 participants from the English Club. The implementation method combined lectures, a screening of the short film “Jalanin Aja” by Joko Anwar, discussions, film review writing practice, and evaluation using a feedback questionnaire. The results of the activity showed that 95% of participants agreed that writing film reviews can improve their critical thinking skills. Furthermore, 90% of participants felt more confident expressing their opinions through writing, 90% considered the selected films relevant to their lives, and 95% stated that the activity was fun. Thus, film review writing training has proven to be an effective learning strategy for developing students' critical thinking and English writing skills.

Abstract

This community service program aims to enhance farmers’ capacity through the application of the Rapid Rural Appraisal (RRA) approach in Durian Village. The main problems faced by farmers include limited knowledge and skills in cultivation techniques, suboptimal land utilization, and weak farmer group institutions. The method applied was RRA, consisting of several stages: preparation, rapid data collection through interviews, focus group discussions (FGD), and participatory observation, followed by participatory analysis, joint action planning, program implementation, and monitoring and evaluation.The results show a significant improvement in farmers’ capacity in terms of knowledge, technical skills, and attitudes toward agricultural innovation. Farmers have begun to apply more effective cultivation techniques and optimize land use for potential commodities. In addition, there has been an increase in participation in farmer groups, strengthening of institutional functions, and the emergence of local leaders who act as community mobilizers. The program also fostered collective awareness and behavioral changes toward a more adaptive and sustainable agricultural system. In conclusion, the RRA approach is effective not only in rapidly identifying local problems but also in promoting social change and community capacity building. This community service model has the potential to be replicated in other areas with adjustments to local conditions.

Abstract

Legal awareness is an important aspect in shaping a child's character and preventing the emergence of various forms of delinquency that can lead to legal issues. However, there are still many children who do not understand their rights, obligations, or the legal consequences of their actions. This condition is also found among the children under the care of the Aldyan Citra Insania Foundation, who still have limited understanding of child protection and the Juvenile Criminal Justice System (SPPA). Therefore, this community service activity aims to raise legal awareness among the children in the foundation's care, the foundation's management, and volunteers thru legal counseling and assistance regarding child protection and the Juvenile Criminal Justice System. The method used is a participatory approach with stages of observation, partner needs identification, legal counseling, interactive discussions, consultation, mentoring, and evaluation. The material provided includes legal awareness, children's rights and obligations, child protection, forms of juvenile delinquency along with their legal consequences, as well as mechanisms for resolving juvenile cases thru diversion and restorative justice. The results of the activity show an increase in participants' understanding of the material presented, a heightened concern for child protection, and an improvement in the foundation's administrators' ability to mentor the children in their care. In addition, this activity encourages the growth of a shared commitment to creating a safe, child-friendly environment free from various forms of violence. Legal counseling and assistance provided have proven to be effective means in raising legal awareness while simultaneously strengthening the foundation's capacity to conduct ongoing child guidance and protection.

Abstract

The issue of household waste remains a major challenge in environmental management, influenced by the low public awareness in sorting and processing waste from its source. This condition results in an increase in the volume of waste disposed of at final processing sites and causes various environmental problems. This community service activity aims to increase legal awareness and community skills in organic waste management thru legal counseling and participatory-based training. The activity was conducted in Tohudan Village, Colomadu District, Karanganyar Regency using a participatory approach that actively involved the community thru counseling, interactive discussions, demonstrations, and hands-on practice. The materials presented included legal provisions regarding waste management, classification of types of waste, the importance of waste segregation at the source, various methods of processing organic waste, and the application of the Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle (3R) principle. The results of the activities showed an increase in public understanding of rights and obligations in waste management, an improvement in participants' ability to sort organic and inorganic waste, and an increase in knowledge about utilizing organic waste into compost and valuable products. The high participation of participants during the activities also indicates that an approach integrating legal education with practical training can encourage a change in community behavior toward more responsible waste management. Therefore, this community service activity contributes positively to building a culture of legal awareness, increasing community participation, and supporting sustainable household waste management as part of efforts to create a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment.
