Abstract

One of the skin diseases that often affects babies and toddlers is miliariasis or prickly heat. According to  the World Health Organization (WHO, 2016) reported that of 80% of miliariasis sufferers per year, 65% of them occur in infants and toddlers. Miliariasis or prickly heat or often called sweat is a skin disorder caused by the closure of skin pores so that sweat cannot come out. Especially because the atmosphere around the baby is very warm or humid. Miliaria is common on the forehead, neck, parts of the body covered with clothing (chest and back), as well as places that often experience pressure or friction of clothing. Aloe vera can be used as an alternative medicine to help the healing process of miliariasis and wounds due to prickly heat. To determine the effect of giving aloe vera gel (Aloe Vera) on the acceleration of miliaria healing in infants (0-12 months). The design of this study is quasi-experimental with sampling using a non-probability sampling  method with a purposive sampling technique.  The research was conducted at the Edelweiss Mom and Baby Aesthetic Care Center from February 2024 to October 2024. The population in this study is children aged 0-12 months with miliaria with samples based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. A sample of 32 babies was divided into 2 groups, each of which was 16 babies with miliaria who were given aloe vera gel (Aloe Vera) topically and 16 other babies who were not given aloe vera gel (Aloe Vera). The statistical test used univariate  analysis and bivariate  analysis with α = 0.05. The results of this study showed that as many as 32 babies were divided into two groups: an experimental group given aloe vera gel and a control group without treatment. The results showed significant improvement in the treatment group, with 68.8% of the babies experiencing a reduction in itching. The control group showed no significant changes. Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney's statistical tests proved that aloe vera gel accelerates the healing of miliaria in babies. The application of aloe vera gel has been proven to be effective in accelerating the healing of miliaria in babies aged 0-12 months. Aloe vera gel can be a safe and effective alternative to natural therapy in overcoming skin problems in babies, especially miliaria. This study supports the use of aloe vera gel as part of infant skin care, with significant results in improving the condition of miliaria.

Abstract

The rapid mutation of viruses poses significant challenges to global public health, particularly in the development and effectiveness of vaccines. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of newly developed vaccines in addressing mutated virus variants through a qualitative approach using a literature review and library research methodology. By analyzing peer-reviewed journal articles, clinical trial data, and epidemiological reports, this study evaluates the adaptability and immunogenic response of novel vaccines against emerging viral mutations. The findings indicate that while many new vaccines demonstrate efficacy against initial virus strains, their effectiveness against mutated variants varies significantly. Some vaccines retain strong immunological responses due to adaptive mRNA technology, while others exhibit reduced neutralization capacity, necessitating booster doses or reformulation. Epidemiological data suggest that vaccine-induced immunity, although partially compromised by mutations, continues to reduce severe illness and hospitalization rates. However, vaccine coverage and distribution disparities further impact public health outcomes. The study underscores the importance of continuous genomic surveillance, rapid vaccine modification, and global collaboration in vaccine distribution to mitigate the impact of emerging virus variants. Additionally, the research highlights the need for ongoing clinical trials and real-world observational studies to assess long-term vaccine effectiveness. In conclusion, while new vaccines provide substantial protection, their adaptability to virus mutations remains a crucial factor in sustaining long-term immunity and controlling viral spread. Future research should focus on enhancing vaccine formulation strategies and addressing immunization challenges in diverse populations.

Abstract

A fiber-rich diet plays a crucial role in maintaining digestive health and preventing constipation, which is a common gastrointestinal issue affecting a significant portion of the population. This review examines the various benefits of dietary fiber, emphasizing its role in promoting regular bowel movements, enhancing gut microbiota, and improving overall digestive function. Soluble and insoluble fibers, found in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes, contribute to stool bulk and consistency, facilitating easier passage through the intestines. Furthermore, fiber intake has been associated with a reduced risk of developing digestive disorders such as diverticulitis and colorectal cancer. This paper also explores the mechanisms by which fiber influences gut health, including its effects on gut motility, fermentation by gut bacteria, and the production of short-chain fatty acids. Additionally, the importance of adequate hydration in conjunction with fiber consumption is discussed, as it enhances the effectiveness of fiber in preventing constipation. By promoting a balanced diet rich in fiber, individuals can support their digestive health and reduce the incidence of constipation, leading to improved quality of life. This review underscores the necessity for public health initiatives to encourage increased fiber intake as a preventive measure for gastrointestinal health.

Abstract

This qualitative study explores the role of superfoods in enhancing cognitive function and memory retention through a systematic review of existing literature. Using a library research approach, this paper synthesizes current scientific findings from peer-reviewed journals, clinical trials, and meta-analyses that examine the neuroprotective and cognitive-enhancing properties of various nutrient-rich foods. The study focuses on key dietary components found in superfoods such as omega-3 fatty acids, flavonoids, polyphenols, antioxidants, and B vitamins, which have been shown to positively influence brain health. Drawing upon empirical studies in the fields of neuroscience and nutritional epidemiology, this review identifies several superfoods—including blueberries, fatty fish, walnuts, green leafy vegetables, and turmeric—that demonstrate measurable effects on brain plasticity, cognitive processing speed, and memory consolidation. The results suggest that regular dietary intake of these superfoods can mitigate age-related cognitive decline, reduce oxidative stress, and support long-term neurological health. Furthermore, the study discusses the mechanisms through which these nutrients impact brain function, including improved synaptic signaling, anti-inflammatory actions, and enhanced cerebral blood flow. While acknowledging the limitations of existing research—such as small sample sizes and the need for longitudinal data—this paper highlights the potential of dietary interventions as complementary strategies to improve cognitive resilience. The findings underscore the importance of integrating superfood consumption into daily dietary habits as a non-pharmacological, accessible approach to cognitive health promotion. Future research should aim to conduct large-scale, longitudinal studies to further establish causality and refine dietary guidelines for optimal brain health.

Abstract

Socio-economic changes and urban lifestyles have driven shifts in food consumption patterns, with an increasing preference for fast food. In Indonesia, this phenomenon is one of the main contributors to the increasing prevalence of obesity, especially in the productive age group. This study aims to analyze changes in people's consumption patterns for fast food and their implications for the prevalence of obesity. The approach used is a qualitative literature study by reviewing academic sources and empirical data from the last five years (2019–2024) obtained from various databases such as PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar. The analysis method used is thematic content analysis to identify key themes such as fast food consumption trends, driving factors, and health impacts. The results of the study show that fast food consumption has increased significantly among urban communities, driven by practical factors, media influence, and aggressive marketing. This consumption is positively correlated with an increase in body mass index (BMI) and obesity prevalence, as reflected in Riskesdas data showing an increase in obesity prevalence from 14.8% in 2013 to 21.8% in 2018. In addition, high fast food consumption is generally accompanied by a sedentary lifestyle and low nutritional awareness. These findings indicate the importance of policy interventions based on nutritional education, advertising restrictions, and healthy lifestyle promotion to suppress the increasing obesity trend in Indonesia.
