Abstract

Advances in reproductive technology have generated new questions regarding maternal status in the practice of surrogate motherhood, particularly concerning the distinction between genetic and gestational mothers. This study aims to reconstruct the concept of motherhood in the Qur’an and examine its implications for such practices. The research is qualitative and library-based, employing the thematic exegesis (tafsîr mawdhûʿî) method of al-Farmawi through the collection and analysis of key Qur’anic verses. The findings indicate that the Qur’an conceptualizes motherhood as a multilayered relational structure: birth as the ontological foundation, gestation as the ethical foundation, breastfeeding as a juridical extension, and lineage (nasab) as its genealogical consequence. Within this framework, traditional surrogacy is considered incompatible with Islamic kinship principles due to the occurrence of ikhtilâth al-nasab (lineage mixing), while gestational surrogacy still raises questions regarding the determination of maternal status. The interpretation of QS. al-Mujâdilah [58]:2 associates motherhood with the woman who gives birth, and the notion of the womb as qarârin makîn affirms pregnancy as a maternal relation that cannot be contractually transferred. Accordingly, the Qur’anic construction of motherhood transcends a purely genetic approach and provides a conceptual basis for addressing modern reproductive bioethics in Islam.

Abstract

Gender issues in Islam remain a complex and contested discourse, encompassing theological, social, and structural dimensions. This study analyzes Felix Siauw’s gender perspective in Wanita Berkarir Surga by engaging it in critical dialogue with modern gender theory, particularly in relation to the tension between fitrah-based and constructivist approaches. It also examines the relevance of this perspective in the context of contemporary Muslim women’s lives. This research employs a qualitative library research method, using the book as the primary source and supported by literature on feminism, gender sociology, and contemporary Islamic studies. Data are analyzed through content analysis. The findings show that Siauw’s perspective is grounded in the concepts of fitrah and complementarity, where gender differences are viewed as natural and mutually supportive. Male leadership is framed as responsibility, while women’s domestic roles are elevated as central to family and civilizational development. However, gender-insensitive mosque structures are found to limit women’s participation, reflecting patriarchal social constructions. Critically, although the perspective offers strong theological grounding, it requires contextual reinterpretation to remain relevant and to avoid reinforcing limitations on women’s roles in contemporary society.

Abstract

This article examines the role of women from the perspective of the Qur'an through an interpretive study of Surah An-Nisā' verse 32. The study proceeds from the observation that Qur'anic verses on gender relations are often read partially, producing reductive conclusions about women’s position. This research employs a qualitative approach with library research as its principal method, bringing classical exegesis, contemporary tafsir, and relevant recent journal scholarship into dialogue. The findings demonstrate that Surah An-Nisā' verse 32 does not place women in a subordinate position; rather, it affirms respect for women’s effort, responsibility, and moral-social contribution. The verse provides a normative basis for recognising women’s roles in family, education, economic life, and wider socio-religious participation. Accordingly, the verse is more accurately understood as a foundation for proportional justice than as a justification for restricting women’s roles.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the implementation of supportive communication in programs addressing violence against Muslim children at DP3AP2KB in Bogor Regency. Using the theoretical foundations of Burleson and MacGeorge as well as Jack Gibb's supportive behaviors, this study analyzes the integration between universal psychological techniques and Islamic spiritual education. The research results show that DP3AP2KB implements the "Islam-Based Supportive Communication (Teo-Psychological)" model, which combines scientific support (medical-psychological) and divine support (spiritual). The implementation is carried out through two main tracks: individual-centered development and the utilization of positive emotions through person-centered messages, such as the use of qashash methods (Prophets' stories) and creative media (drawing/sholawat) to restore the soul (nafs). The six supportive behaviors of Gibb, descriptiveness, problem orientation (5W+1H analysis), spontaneity, empathy, equality, and provisionalism are applied consistently to build victims' trust. The gender factor of officers, who are mostly female, has been proven to increase victims' self-disclosure. This study concludes that supportive communication based on the values of mawaddah wa rahmah and the principle of watawashau bil haqqi wa shabr is effective in alleviating trauma and restoring victims' dignity. Practically, this research recommends strengthening body anatomy literacy and digital parenting to break the chain of child violence in the cyber era.
