Abstract

Smoking is a well-established risk factor for various chronic diseases, including diabetes. However, the specific impact of smoking habits on diabetes risk within the Indonesian population remains underexplored. This study analyzes data from the Indonesia Health Survey to examine the relationship between smoking habits and the risk of developing diabetes. A cross-sectional approach was employed, utilizing nationally representative data to assess smoking behavior, diabetes prevalence, and relevant confounding variables. Logistic regression models were applied to evaluate the association between smoking status (current, former, and never smokers) and diabetes risk, adjusting for age, sex, BMI, physical activity, and dietary factors. The findings indicate a significant positive association between smoking and diabetes risk, with current smokers exhibiting a higher likelihood of diabetes compared to non-smokers. These results highlight the importance of smoking cessation programs as part of diabetes prevention strategies in Indonesia. Further longitudinal studies are recommended to establish causality and explore potential biological mechanisms underlying this relationship.

Abstract

Background: This study aims to identify the relationship between mosquito nest eradication efforts and the prevalence of dengue fever in Indonesia. Methods: The study used a quantitative method with a descriptive analytic design and a cross-sectional approach, where the independent variables (sowing larvicide powder, installing mosquito screens on vents, draining bathtubs, closing water reservoirs, and destroying used items) were analysed against the dependent variable, which was the prevalence of DHF based on the Indonesian Health Survey data in 2023. Data were analysed univariately and bivariately with Spearman correlation test to see the relationship between variables. Results: The results showed that installation of mosquito screens on house ventilation and destruction of used goods had a significant association with the prevalence of DHF (p=0.006 and p=0.042, respectively), while sowing larvicidal powder, draining bathtubs, and closing water reservoirs did not show a significant association. Conclusions: This study concludes that mosquito nest eradication efforts, particularly mosquito screen installation and disposal of used items, can be effective in reducing the prevalence of DHF in Indonesia.

Abstract

Background: Treatment success is an effort to control and manage TB patients through indicators of treatment program success rates to assess the progress of TB control. Kediri City has Mojoroto Sub-district which has the lowest average percentage of TB treatment success with only 81.54%. This study uses binary logistic regression analysis to determine the factors that can influence the success of Lung TB treatment in Mojoroto District, Kediri City in 2022. Methods: This study uses an observational research design, analyzing secondary data obtained from the Kediri Regency Health Office, using Quantum GIS software. Data was collected from health reports and mapped to visualize the distribution of doctors who have completed their credentialing across the health centers. Results: The results of hypothesis testing using Fisher's Exact Test for the bivariate test, obtained the results that the variable of drug compliance (p value= 0.00 < 0.05) influences the success of Lung TB treatment. Meanwhile, the variables of age (p = 0.246 > 0.05), family support (p value= 1.000 > 0.05) and comorbidities (p value= 0.360 > 0.05) do not influence the success of Lung TB treatment. In addition, the results of multivariate analysis with binary logistic regression test obtained results from the simultaneous test that there is at least 1 variable that affects the success of Lung TB treatment and partial test showed that none of them affect the success of Lung TB treatment. Conclusions: It is recommended to approach cadres as supervisors of swallowing medicine, taking medicine on time without leaving medicine, and being confident that they can recover and complete the recording on the treatment card as an archive that can facilitate program evaluation.

Abstract

Background: Dental health problems, particularly dental caries, are common among children. In school-age children, dental diseases are a significant concern as they not only cause pain but can also lead to infections spreading to other parts of the body, ultimately reducing productivity. One effective educational tool to promote dental health is video media. Animated videos, which combine visual and auditory elements, can enhance curiosity, improve student engagement, and stimulate motivation. This study aims to analyze the effect of animated video on the motivation of students at SDN Gurah 1, Gurah, Kediri, to brush their teeth.  Methods: This research employed a pre-experimental design with a one-group pre-test and post-test approach. A single group of students was assessed for their motivation to brush their teeth before and after the intervention. Data analysis was conducted using the non-parametric Marginal Homogeneity test. Results: The statistical analysis yielded a significance value of p = 0.000, indicating a significant difference in students' motivation before and after watching the animated video. Conclusions: The study concludes that the use of animated video significantly enhances students' motivation to brush their teeth. Implementing animated video as a learning medium in dental health education can be an effective strategy to improve oral hygiene habits among school children.

Abstract

Background: Anemia is decrease in hemoglobin levels as well as erythrocyte and hematocrit counts below 11 g/dL. Tea drinking habits and fast food consumption in adolescent girls can inhibit iron absorption and cause iron loss. This study aims to find out the relationship between tea consumption habits and fast food consumption on the anemia status of adolescent girls at Trensains Tebuireng High School, Jombang.  Methods: This study is quantitative research using a cross sectional design. The sample of this study is 62 adolescent girls in grades X and XI with inclusion criteria of not taking iron supplements for the past 2 weeks, not having menstruation, and not suffering from infectious diseases such as malaria, tuberculosis, and others. The data was analyzed using the Chi- Square test. Results: Based on the results of the Chi-Square test, a p-value of 0.009 was obtained in the relationship between tea consumption habits and anemia status and a p-value of 0.000 in the relationship between fast food consumption habits and anemia status. Conclusions: There is relationship between tea consumption habits and fast food consumption on anemia status in adolescent girls at Trensains Tebuireng Jombang High School.
