Abstract

). Several areas in Tangerang City and Regency are prone to flooding due to the high rainfall intensity, decreased drainage channel capacity, and reduced infiltration capacity. Water conservation can be an effort made to tackle these issues. This study aims to identify priority alternative measurements of flood control through water conservation implemented in the research area. This study uses a Quantitative Method by collecting data through questionnaires from 50 respondents experts in the fields of Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, Architecture, and Tourism residing in Tangerang City and Regency. The data collected were processed using the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) Method to determine the best alternatives for flood control efforts through water conservation. The alternatives for flood control measures include watershed construction, infiltration wells construction, bio pores, naturalization, waste management, and urban forest development. Based on the data analysis, there are three dominant factors triggering floods in research area, namely land misuse, low soil infiltration, and high rainfall. Furthermore, three alternatives with the highest values from AHP Method, namely urban forest development, naturalization, and the construction of infiltration wells with values of 0,249; 0,182, and 0,172 respectively.

Abstract

An investigation was carried out in Kakamega County to determine the characteristic grade of eucalyptus and cypress timber species that are commonly used in construction. The physical and mechanical properties of two timber species for structural use; eucalyptus and cypress were determined. Six logs of each species were obtained from different areas of Kakamega County, sliced into 2” by 12” size before seasoning under a shade and their structural strength properties were determined at a moisture content of 12%. These logs were cut into test samples for the determination of their strength properties. A total of 800 samples (100 samples for each test) free from visible defects were used for each species. Basic physical properties of the samples like moisture content and density were determined. Tensile strength, compressive strength parallel the grain, compressive strength perpendicular to the grain, and bending strength were the mechanical strength tests carried out according to Eurocode 5 (1995) and BS 5268 (2002) specifications on Universal Testing Machine (UTM). Results were analyzed statistically using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) while grading was done according to Eurocode 5 (EC5). Cypress was graded into strength class C20 while eucalyptus was graded into strength class D24. Strength class C20 is used in load-bearing structures that require high strength, such as roof trusses and floor systems. D24 is a common structural grade for a variety of structures exposed to high environmental conditions.

Abstract

Contractors need to pay attention to the financial condition of the company so that the availability of funds to carry out profitable construction operations can be fulfilled. Construction projects require substantial funds, so contractors often utilize bank loan systems. A finance-based scheduling concept is needed to combine scheduling and funding in construction projects. This research seeks to optimize finance-based scheduling with the goal of minimizing interest on contractor loans. The optimization method used is the metaheuristic algorithm Symbiotic Organisms Search (SOS), and the case study used is the construction project of PT.X office building in Surabaya with the aim of providing alternative scheduling scenarios to contractors. The optimization process involves shifting the start time of activities (shift value) to generate new schedules. The results of the optimization process in three payment scenarios were able to produce smaller interest burdens on contractor loans. Additionally, after the optimization process, the contractor's largest loan also decreased, meeting the credit limit set by the bank. The best alternative scenario choices are scenarios 1 and 3, which result in the highest decrease in loan interest burden and the largest decrease in loan amount.

Abstract

Public transportation systems are vital components of urban infrastructure, shaping mobility and development. The emergence of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) systems offers a promising solution to challenges faced by traditional bus services. However, delays within BRT systems can compromise their efficiency and reliability. The goal of this study is to investigate and analyze the critical factors influencing delays in Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) systems, specifically focusing on the Istanbul Metrobus, in order to provide actionable insights for optimizing operations and enhancing service reliability in BRT operations. Decision Trees identify critical parameters affecting delays, while Bayesian Networks elucidate causal dependencies among variables. The proposed Bayesian Precedence Network integrates these methodologies. This study employed a range of diverse data sources analyzed through advanced software tools like GeNIe Modeler. The results underscore the effectiveness of decision analysis in quantifying uncertainties and assessing critical factors that inform transit planning and optimization. The findings reveal that a passenger occupancy rate of 43% results in a 76% probability of no delays, while high traffic flow decreases this probability to 55%. Conversely, clear weather conditions enhance this probability to 80%, whereas rainy conditions and non-optimized operational efficiency heighten the risk of delays. Overall, this study provides a blueprint for addressing public transportation challenges, empowering transportation planners and policymakers to create more efficient and reliable transit networks.

Abstract

The results of a study on the effect of overcurrent on the bond strength between reinforcing steel and concrete are presented in this paper. Cathodic protection with a constant current density, based on the surface area of reinforcing steel, was applied to the test specimens for 5 months. A chloride mixture of 1.5% and 3.0% by weight of cement was added to the concrete mix in the form of CaCl2, to analyze the effect of CaCl2, and chloride concentration on the bond strength of reinforcing steel and concrete when cathodic protection current was applied. In this study, it was found that excessive current flowing into reinforcing steel resulted in a decrease in the bond strength between reinforcing steel and concrete. The decrease in bond strength in normal concrete (without CaCl2 admixture) was 4.33%, 9.63%, 13.29%, and 25.93% for current densities of 40, 200, 500, and 1000 mA/m2, respectively. In specimens with a mixture of CaCl2, 1.5%, there was an increase in adhesion strength of up to 108% for the protective current density, but at excess current density there was a decrease of up to 45.2%. SEM-EDS test results also showed a significant accumulation of Na and K and a reduction of chloride around the reinforcing steel. The formation of Na and K at the interface of reinforcing steel and concrete causes softening of the concrete which results in a decrease in the bond strength between reinforcing steel and concrete.

Abstract

Axial load testing on short drilled pile foundation models in the field requires several criteria to be met, including: depth of the tip support layer, adjustments to the capacity and arrangement of the test equipment so that it can still refer to the testing standards. In order for the axial working load on the foundation model to be carried only by the toe bearing resistance, the frictional resistance of the blanket is eliminated through lubrication with liquid silicone. The toe bearing resistance is mobilized at large deformations from 18%d to 30%d. The load test tip bearing resistance value is only about half of the empirically calculated tip bearing resistance.

Abstract

In planning a water structure such as a weir, it is necessary to first study the problem of local scouring that occurs downstream of the structure. Local scouring problems occur as a result of water velocity and turbulence exceeding the resistance of the channel or river bed material. In this study, a square-shaped channel with a certain size and base slope was used to find the depth of local scouring along with the dry volume of sediment carried. Through 6 experiments by averaging the discharge on the 2 discharge gauges used, the deepest local scour that occurred was 3.8 cm; 4 cm; 4.3 cm; 4.5 cm, 4.8 cm; 5.1 cm and the dry volume of sediment carried was 8305 cm3; 12915 cm3; 18505.71 cm3; 23331.43 cm3; 28760 cm3, 29960.71 cm3. In this study, it can be concluded that Lacey's formula is the closest to laboratory results after reaching equilibrium. The amount of sediment volume carried, is strongly influenced by the diameter of sediment grains, flow discharge, flow velocity and channel slope. The greater the flowing discharge, at a certain time will produce constant scouring. This is because a balance has been reached. The deeper the local scour that occurs, it can be concluded that the more sediment volume is carried downstream of the weir.
