Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of human resource management functions, namely recruitment, performance appraisal, and career development, on expatriates' adjustment in the new work environment. In the context of increasing globalization, many companies send their employees to work abroad, making adaptation to new cultures and work systems crucial to their success. Qualitative research methods were used with in-depth interviews with an Indonesian expatriate working in Romania as a room attendant. The results showed that mental readiness and social support from local coworkers play an important role in cultural, social, and occupational adjustment. Recruitment processes that consider the cultural readiness of potential expatriates have been shown to reduce the risk of adjustment failure, while structured performance appraisals provide constructive feedback to help expatriates understand company expectations. In addition, planned career development can improve expatriates' motivation and performance, although language barriers and less modern managerial systems in destination countries are major challenges in their career development. The conclusion of this study emphasizes the need for a holistic approach in supporting the success of the migrant workforce, including pre-departure training, continuous performance evaluation, and inclusive social support. Thus, companies are expected to design more effective strategies to facilitate expatriates' adjustment and improve their performance in the new work environment.

Abstract

This comparative biographical study explores the lives and legacies of notable individuals named Fazlur Rahman, who have made significant contributions across diverse fields such as structural engineering, Islamic scholarship, religious education, political leadership, and missionary work. The study includes figures like Fazlur Rahman Khan, a pioneering structural engineer; Fazlur Rahman Malik, a leading Islamic modernist thinker; Moulana Fazlur Rahman, a traditional scholar and spiritual guide; Fazal-ur-Rehman, a prominent Pakistani politician; and Dr. Muhammad Fazlur Rahman Ansari, an influential theologian and missionary. By examining their biographies, intellectual outputs, and socio-political impacts, the paper highlights both the unique paths and common themes of excellence and leadership these individuals represent. The inclusion of a controversial figure, Fazlur Rahman Khalil, underscores the diversity of legacy among individuals sharing the same name. This study contributes to the understanding of how shared identities can traverse vastly different trajectories, offering insight into cultural, religious, academic, and political landscapes across regions.

Abstract

This qualitative study explores how Generation Alpha (born 2010–2024) defines career success as they enter the hybrid workforce through part-time or gig roles. Using life-history interviews with 15 early Gen Alpha workers (aged 14–18), the research reveals that their perceptions of success prioritize flexibility, digital literacy, and purpose-driven work over traditional metrics like salary or job titles. Thematic analysis identified three key themes: (1) success as autonomy in work-life boundaries, (2) success tied to mastery of digital tools, and (3) alignment between personal values and employer ethics. These findings challenge conventional HR frameworks, suggesting that organizations must adapt career development programs to accommodate Gen Alpha’s distinct expectations. The study contributes to generational theory and hybrid work literature by highlighting the evolving intersection of technology, identity, and labor.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between business ethics and sustainability business in companies that establish partnerships with the public sector through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach. The background of this study is based on the increasing pressure on companies to not only pursue economic profit, but also pay attention to social and environmental responsibility, especially in the context of collaboration with government agencies. This study examines 16 scientific articles published between 2020 and 2025, obtained from the Scopus database. The analysis shows that the application of business ethics principles such as transparency, accountability, fairness and integrity has a positive correlation with the success of sustainability initiatives. Collaboration with the public sector reinforces the urgency of implementing ethics, given the demands of regulatory compliance and higher social expectations. In addition, business ethics serves as a foundation for building trust between parties, which is key to long-term sustainability. This study recommends the systematic integration of ethics into business strategy, as well as the need for public policies that encourage sustainable business practices through ethical and responsible partnerships.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of human resources (HR) on the export capabilities of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) with digital competence as a mediating variable. The study focused on two MSMEs producing crafts, namely the producer of Bola Tumbuh Pot (Bobupot) Green Galeria Indonesia from Surabaya and the producer of terracotta pots UD Gerabah Merah from Malang. The research method used is a quantitative approach with the Structural Equation Modeling-Partial Least Square (SEM-PLS) analysis technique. Data were obtained through questionnaires distributed to 97 respondents who were employees of the two MSMEs. The results of the study indicate that: (1) The quality of HR has a positive and significant effect on digital competence with a path coefficient of 0.683 (p <0.001); (2) Digital competence has a positive and significant effect on export capability with a path coefficient of 0.572 (p <0.001); (3) The quality of HR has a direct effect on export capability with a path coefficient of 0.317 (p <0.05); (4) Digital competence is proven to significantly mediate the relationship between HR quality and export capability with a partial mediation effect of 0.391 (p<0.01). This study provides theoretical and practical implications for HR development in the MSME sector, especially in increasing export capability through the development of digital competence.
