Abstract

Computers and Internet have successfully provided students with various online educational services. With the latest developments in the mobile technology, new methods are emerging to provide educational services through mobile technologies such as mobile phones and PDAs. By providing the educational services using the wireless medium, the educational institutions can facilitate self-access learning.  By using the mobile educational services, lecturers and students can access the services anytime and anywhere they want. This paper discusses the possibility of providing architectural heritage studies on web application through mobile technology. This offers a new approach in architectural education, namely imparting knowledge, or facilitating the imparting of knowledge, through a medium other than the traditional methods used in polytechnic. It does not seek to replace the conventional methods of teaching, which have traditionally been through lecture classes and design studios. It merely aspires to bridge some of the gap that is found between the two and thereby promote better understanding of architectural knowledge. The case study is an important tool in architectural education. Students learn by analyzing, comparing and evaluating aspects of important architectural works. By providing a tool by which this evaluation is facilitated and enhanced through the process of associative thinking, architectural learning is enriched. The paper will conduct formative evaluation of the student projects with the aim to test the feasibility of providing mobile educational services for diploma level architectural students in Port Dickson Polytechnic.  The study found that the mobile learning can be a useful complement to the current computer based learning. Keywords: Heritage, Web, Mobile Technology, Mobile Learning

Abstract

This article estimates the consumption function under the permanent income hypothesis. The study is based on annual data covering the period from 1985 to 2010 for selected 10 Arab countries. The models specification implemented refer to the combined partial adjustment and adaptive expectations model, and the adaptive expectations model. The estimation results with respect to the consumption function under the permanent income hypothesis and the combined partial adjustment and adaptive expectations model were rather good only for some countries. Therefore, we demonstrated only the estimation outcomes for the consumption function model under the permanent income hypothesis and the adaptive expectations model. The results show strong support for the hypothesis, supporting thus the consumption function under the permanent income hypothesis and the adaptive expectations model. Keywords: Consumption Function, Permanent-Income Hypothesis, Arab Countries.

Abstract

E-learning is expected to play a greater role in accommodating the needs of the adult learners to participate in the learning programs. Since most distance learners are adults, it is critical for educators to understand several aspects of adults such as how adults learn and their preferences in studying. These understanding could help educators to plan a more effective learning programs and to provide a better support services to help adult learners. This paper will attempt to highlight the preference of adult learners between the synchronous or  asynchronous e-learning instruction. The discussion is based on a study conducted on adult learners who are studying at  the School of Distance Education (SDE), Universiti Sains Malaysia in Malaysia. The synchronous instructions are the live video conferencing and video streaming which are held  at certain scheduled time to augment the printing learning materials. The asynchronous e-learning instructions are in the form of recorded video conference and reading materials posted in the learning portal that are accessible to students at anytime and anywhere.  Factors related to the usage of these e-learning instructions will be identified and discussed. Learners’ problems or avoidance in utilizing the e-learning instruction will also be noted. Keywords: E-learning, adult learners, synchronous instruction, asynchronous instruction
