Abstract

Aim: The purpose of this research is to delve into the business practices of Valero Energy Corporation. The Valero Energy Corporation (Valero) was founded in 1980 and has since grown to become a major petroleum refiner in the U.S. and international oil and gas industries. Valero is a Texas-based oil and ethanol company that operates 15 refineries and 14 plants.Method: The methods used by Valero Energy Corporation were dissected using a case study approach.Findings: The findings of this study show that Valero Energy Corporation is up against difficulties in the industry’s midstream and downstream, with an emphasis on external factors like weather and geopolitical influences. Valero Energy Corporation will continue to face challenges soon, even though crude oil prices appear to stabilize. This is because of the continued volatility in the market and the slowdown in international economic growth. As a long-term strategy to prepare themselves for future economic uncertainty and unsteady industry conditions, oil and gas companies will continue to enforce capital discipline. Though Valero’s strategic acquisitions and divestitures helped the company weather previous economic storms, the question remains whether or not the company’s current asset mix is optimal.Implications/Novel Contribution: Students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels of business study can benefit from the Valero Energy Corporation Case Study by applying concepts like critical thinking, qualitative and quantitative analysis, and decision-making. Valero Energy Corporation’s (Valero) efforts to remain competitive and generate above-average returns are the focus of this case study.

Abstract

Aim: The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the potential of Scratch for STEM instruction. Drones and mobile robots can be navigated using Scratch. Mobile robots and inexpensive drones are also available. The author suggests a budget-friendly STEM education. Scratch is a great way to introduce kids to computer programming. The STEM disciplines can also be taught with Scratch. The research here suggests using Scratch as a low-cost tool for STEM education.Method: The current investigation employs a qualitative descriptive strategy. The Scratch app was developed and used with kids to achieve the results. Findings: The results demonstrate that STEM education through Scratch can be provided at a lower cost. Learning occurs in a group of 6 or 7 students when a teacher assigns a task in which robots must move forward while dodging obstacles built from LEGO bricks. Each student can focus on the assignment at hand with the help of a low-cost mobile robot, should the instructor choose. If the instructor decides to use Scratch exclusively, students can engage in activities requiring them to think critically about the problem.Implications/Novel Contribution: Creativity training is at the heart of STEM curricula. Many Japanese cities host annual robot competitions. A robot-building competition is a fun way to encourage original thought. As a result, more students would benefit from learning to code. Inexpensive mobile robots and drones that can be piloted with Scratch are becoming increasingly popular. Less expensive teaching materials are necessary if we force each student to engage with the issue.

Abstract

Aim: This research aims to discuss the maritime terrorism problem, which researchers see as a national security and sovereignty risk. Terrorist acts committed by maritime groups are a real danger that can jeopardize a country’s safety and independence without its citizens’ knowledge.Method: Researchers in this study employed qualitative and case study research strategies. Qualitative research is a method that gathers information about a topic through in-depth interviews, focus groups, and documenting people’s actions and words. In contrast to quantitative research methods, which emphasize the sample size of the studied population, case study research seeks to gain a deeper comprehension of the issue at hand.Findings: According to these research results, the maritime terrorism group is actively plotting and executing terrorist attacks throughout Southeast Asia. Abu Sayyaf, JI, and the MILF (Moro Islamic Liberation Front) are just a few groups that have publicly stated their intention to oppose western rule in the Philippines. To the tune of Brandt, those terrorist groups on the high seas unleash their full arsenals in acts of terror. Terrorists on the high seas didn’t act because of any ideological commitment to a specific government or religion, unlike ISIS and Al Qaeda.Implications/Novel Contribution: Terrorism cannot be eliminated by any one nation acting alone or the government alone. To defeat terrorism entirely, we need additional resources. Terrorists are human, and as such, they make decisions based on trust and reason, which puts innocent people in danger. While the government’s approach is undoubtedly required, it has only served to restrain the terrorist uprising. Multiple channels of diplomacy are necessary to eradicate terrorism once and for all.

Abstract

Aim: Rather than solely analyzing interview data, this interpretive study considers how the interview was conducted. The study’s overarching objective is to learn about graduate students’ perspectives and sentiments during their academic journey.Method: The phenomenological method was chosen for this investigation so that researchers could better comprehend the participants’ first-hand accounts of the phenomenon under study. Three current MSc students at the University of Exeter were interviewed; two were male, and one was female. All three interviews were semi-structured.Findings: It was clear from the data that the power dynamic during the interview was more pronounced \ between the two men than it was between the woman. Power dynamics between the interviewer and the interviewees surfaced at various points.Implications/Novel Contribution: This assignment in Interpretive Methodology lays the groundwork for future researchers interested in pursuing similar projects. It taught me things about research that will be useful in the future. A researcher’s understanding of what is expected of them and how to handle sticky situations during interviews can be bolstered by reflecting on their own semi-structured interviews.

Abstract

Aim: This article examines Turkey’s Europeanization efforts in the context of the current European crisis. The introductory paragraph sets the stage for the rest of the paper. The paper analyses Turkey’s negotiations with the European Union, focusing on the most significant economic and legal chapters as the Turkish government moves closer to applying for EU accession (according to the annual reports of the European Commission).Method: European Commission reports and other official documents are used to analyze the talks. The individual’s impact will be highlighted in relation to this method of investigation. In this instance, we consult the related institutions’ publicly available records. The EU’s most important resources are typically discussed and analyzed at this stage of negotiations, with opinions being highly contextualized.Findings: To function smoothly, the European Union needs its neighboring countries to be cooperative partners. Official relations with the Turkish state could be jeopardized, particularly due to the unstable situation in Turkey and internationally if official discussions on potential integration were suspended.Implications/Novel Contribution: For the European Court of Human Rights article 46 mandate to be fulfilled, Turkey must increase its cooperation with the Council of Europe and its relevant bodies and institutions to consider key recommendations and implement all human rights decisions. Integrity must be prioritized.

Abstract

Aim: This research’s main contribution is a social analysis of volunteered geographic information for Thais that uses mapping technology and scenario-based analysis. The community’s safety depends on its members having a thorough understanding of potential threats. It has yet to be widely acknowledged, especially in urban and industrial areas.Method: Both the geographic data and the statistical data associated with the local community are gathered from publicly available sources. The community risk map was created through spatial analysis. In this context, the map serves as a means of communication.Findings: The study results show that locals are aware of the dangers they face and are motivated to take action to reduce their risk. Population counts and social conditions can be inferred using demographic data from an open spatial point dataset, making this information essential for risk management and community issues.Implications/Novel Contribution: This research fills a gap in the literature by providing empirical evidence that social and demographic data can be derived from publicly available sources.

Abstract

Aim: The paper’s overarching goal is to provide a theoretical framework for analyzing modern platform-based media ecosystems, and it does so by discussing three theoretical stances that offer promising new avenues of inquiry within the larger framework of communication studies. The paper zeroes in on how the original two ends of the communication process, the communicators and the receivers, change as a result of technology-centred contributions to social impact.Method: The two primary aspects of the methodology are discussed in this paper, and they are illustrated with examples using a logical research path and path diagram. An investigation into potential interdisciplinary research developments in digital new media will use existing literature reviews and theoretical perspectives on their application across disciplines as its primary framework.Findings: People’s knowledge of and care about how they use media can be strengthened by interdisciplinary research in new media, which examines the fundamental shift in medium and the communication capabilities derived from new media. This helps advance the field of digital new media research, which fosters investigation into novel forms of communication and the study of its interdisciplinary practices, and further enriches and develops the theory of communication in the twenty-first century.Implications/Novel Contribution: By allowing anyone to contribute, UGC gives people who use new media a chance to act as content creators, agents, and practitioners all at once. As a result of this trend, substantial social transformations will be accelerated and amplified. As a result, new media cannot be viewed as merely a new-style communication instrument but as a fusion of several different disciplinary dimensions. The data was collected to bolster foreseeable interdisciplinary social sciences and humanities progress.

Abstract

Aim: This research examines how independent audit principles can help agricultural sales cooperatives in Turkey with their controlling issues. This research examines the potential contributions of an independent audit, which was implemented to ease the burden of auditing agricultural sales cooperatives and unions in Turkey.Method: This research relied on secondary sources of information such as existing literature reviews and relevant pieces of legislation. The Ministry of Commerce’s "communique on the determination of Agricultural Sales cooperative unions to be subject to independent audit," published in the Official Gazette on June 14, 2013, and data from the General Directorate of Artisans have both been used as sources for this article.Findings: Based on the findings of the SWOT analysis conducted within the context of this plan, the lack of effective and guiding existing internal and external audit mechanisms, as well as the negative experiences encountered by some types of cooperatives, are identified as weaknesses.Implications/Novel Contribution: An effective audit mechanism can be created with the help of these discussions and suggestions, which can influence the viewpoints of public officials tasked with and have the authority to formulate policies, particularly about the supervision of cooperatives. Not only that but suggestions for improving cooperative oversight are also offered.

Abstract

Aim: The purpose of this study is to contribute new information to the ongoing debate over the nature of labor and its various forms. Studies examining the significance of work in various contexts, such as the various forms of employment contracts, have yielded varying results. But we still need to find out how DE tutors find fulfillment in their work.Method: Thirty distance education instructors at a university were interviewed for this study, which used a qualitative research approach. Discussion analysis was applied to the transcribed interviews. E. M. Morin’s categories were used to analyze the information gleaned from those interviews (2001). In addition, we noted the emergence of new categories from the interviewees’ responses.Findings: Work, as defined by the tutor in this study, falls into a number of the same broad categories identified by E. M. Morin (2001). It was found, for example, that many people who work as tutors in distance education do not initially set out to become tutors because they believe that tutors are looked down upon. Furthermore, the interviewees lacked a sense of community due to the institution’s high unemployment rate.Implications/Novel Contribution: Academic discussions and debates can benefit from studies that examine what it means to be a distance education tutor and from studies that explore whether the new categories identified in this research are present in other types of educational institutions.

Abstract

Aim: This study aimed to investigate the feasibility of implementing CT techniques in a Visual Art Education setting. A teaching and learning module called Bijak Seni (Smart Art) was designed and developed based on the ADDIE Model to incorporate CT elements into the teaching and learning of drawing and painting at the secondary level.Method: Presented in the form of a sketch and workbook, this module was printed in color and A3 size. At each tier, a list of learning goals was also included. Students were given ample space to write and scribble ideas. Experts, educators, and students in the field of Visual Art Education participated in a survey.Findings: Results showed that the application of CT in the Bijak Seni Module helped students understand the requirements of the tasks in the Visual Art Education exam. 95.9% of students agreed that applying the CT process helped them to improve their drawing and painting skills. The module also helped them to identify important requirements of the questions, break down the complexity of the required tasks, analyze the drawings made, develop ideas to define the key requirements of the questions, and select the best media and method to deliver their drawing and painting, to meet the objectives and requirements of the examination questions.Implications/Novel Contribution: Furthermore, the Bijak Seni Module can also be applied in any art classroom at any level to improve the teaching and learning of drawing and painting based on certain given standards or requirements. Introducing CT in teaching and learning will give good implications for current Visual Art Education in the 21st Century, motivating student learning and increasing innovative thinking among visual art education students.
