Abstract

As the digital age progressed, several updated technologies were implemented, with the sole one affecting the incorrect payment method. People now choose to employ convenience while transacting with different types of matters. This research examines the effects of QRIS as a payment instrument on the Cirebon Regency community regarding their lifestyle choices, cashless society, and place of residence. This study utilises data from communities within the Cirebon Regency area. The research method employed is quantitative field research, which uses data analysis techniques, including instrument validity testing, reliability testing, classical assumption testing, hypothesis testing, and R-squared testing. The study results indicate that lifestyle variables negatively influence interest in QRIS usage. The calculated t-value of -5.092 is less than the critical value of -1.966, indicating that the cashless society variable positively affects interest when using QRIS. The calculated t value (28.967) exceeds the t table value (1.966), indicating that the variable location significantly negatively influences interest in using QRIS. The calculated t value is less than the critical value from the table (-5.211 < -1.966), indicating significance. Additionally, a third independent variable influences interest, with a QRIS of 72.6%. The calculated F value exceeds the critical F value (280.807 > 2.627), further supporting the findings. This study suggests that QRIS adoption strategies must focus on fostering cashless habits, overcoming geographic accessibility challenges, and enhancing financial literacy, particularly in rural regions characterised by high e-wallet usage and low banking penetration. The recommendation for research suggests that financial institutions implement educational programs focused on the responsible use of digital payments, enhance QRIS infrastructure in rural regions, prioritise practical benefits over lifestyle associations, and collaborate with e-wallet providers to address the needs of the 35% of unbanked users.

Abstract

The primary objective of this study was to understand the key factors that influence the adoption of sustainability practices within banks, focusing on firm-level factors. The research employed an online survey targeting stakeholders in the UK banking sector, using structured questions to assess perceptions of sustainability practices and their alignment with financial goals. The findings revealed that, while UK banks are increasingly adopting sustainable lending and investment practices, there remains a stronger emphasis on financial performance over sustainability goals. Banks often prioritize their reputation and brand image, with customer demand playing a significant role in shaping sustainability practices. Furthermore, the study found that banks in the UK provide sufficient sustainability-related disclosures to stakeholders, meeting growing expectations for transparency. In conclusion, the study emphasizes the need for UK banks to integrate sustainability into their core strategies, balancing financial performance with environmental and social goals. The research recommends that banks strengthen their commitment to sustainability by aligning their operations more closely with stakeholder expectations and enhancing sustainability reporting practices. Additionally, policymakers should consider incentivizing sustainability practices to further promote environmental responsibility within the banking sector.

Abstract

Nigeria's economy holds the largest market in Africa and presents significant opportunities for local and international investors. However, the ease of doing business in Nigeria has become a national issue in the last decade due to the World Bank's ease of doing business index, which has been poor in areas with productive sectors, affecting investment. This study critically examines the contending issues and persistent challenges confronting investment opportunities and the ease of doing business in Nigeria between 2015 and 2025. This study examines the impact of institutional, infrastructural, security, and policy-related factors on Nigeria’s investment environment over the last ten years. The study employs a qualitative approach supported by empirical data, policy reviews, and stakeholder perspectives to examine the challenges related to investment and the ease of doing business in Nigeria. It evaluates the effectiveness of various reforms in the business environment. It analyses how these reforms have resulted in measurable enhancements in the ease of business over the past decade. The results indicate a notable disparity between the objectives of policies and their actual implementation, as numerous enterprises continue to face challenges due to inadequate infrastructure, insecurity, excessive taxation, inconsistencies in regulations and corruption. The study concludes by offering policy recommendations geared towards enhancing transparency, strengthening institutions, and fostering a more enabling and secure environment for sustainable investment and ease of business in Nigeria.

Abstract

This study examines the relationship between advertising and the culture of the Trophy Lager beer billboard advertisement at Offa garage area of Ilorin, which generated controversy between the advertiser and the Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressives Union (IEDPU) in the year 2023. The study's primary purpose was to determine the perception of Ilorin residents about the Trophy Lager beer advertisement. The study was underpinned by reception theory. A survey research method was adopted, and a self-administered questionnaire served as the research instrument for this study. The views of 187 residents of Ilorin were sought on their perception of the Trophy Lager beer billboard advertisement mounted at the Offa garage area of Ilorin in the year 2023. The finding revealed that, although the Trophy billboard advertisement caught the attention of most of the residents of Ilorin, it was against the Islamic cultural relevance for which Ilorin community is known. That respect for local values was highly unfavourable. The study concludes that advertising content should mirror the society through the people's language, religious customs and ideology to motivate the target buyers to purchase the advertised products. The study recommends, among others, that further research should be carried out on the influence of the Trophy Lager beer advertisement on alcohol consumption among Ilorin youth.
