Abstract

Pandangan konvensional terhadap media adalah bahwa perubahan yang terjadi pada khalayak disebabkan oleh konten dari media itu sendiri. Pada tulisan ini, peneliti mencoba membuka kembali sebuah fakta bahwa bukan konten tetapi medianyalah yang membuat perubahan pada diri khalayak. Pemikiran ini adalah pemikiran dari Marshall McLuhan yang dikenal dalam pandanganya “the medium is the message” yang menimbulkan pro dan kontra di kalangan teoritikus komunikasi. Pandangan ini disampaikan oleh McLuhan sebagai bentuk kritik terhadap pandangan konvensional tersebut. Pandangan konvensional terkesan sangat mengagungkan kekuatan dari pesan atau konten dari media yang dianggap “powerful”untuk mempengaruhi khalayaknya. Dalan kajian ini menunjukkan bahwa Neil Postman dalam bukunya “Amusing Ourselves to Death” mendukung pemikiran McLuhan. Ia mengatakan bahwa bentuk medialah yang mengubah cara Masyarakat berpikir dan berkomunikasi juga memengaruhi cara manusia memproses informasi dan membentuk pandangan dunia. Selain itu pemikiran Karl Marx, lewat pendekatan materialisnya fokus pada aspek material media, seperti teknologi, infrastruktur, dan ekonomi politik. Marx berpendapat bahwa infrastruktur material (basis) menentukan struktur sosial dan budaya (superstruktur), tidak berbeda dengan Dallas Smythe, dengan konsep “audience commodity” melihat khalayak sebagai produk yang dijual oleh media kepada pengiklan yang diperlakukan sebagai komoditas. Pemikiran Postman, Marx, dan Smythe, dalam hal ini turut menegaskan pemikiran McLuhan, bahwa media dan bukan konten yang membahwa perubahan. Penelitian ini adalah sebuah kajian yang dilakukan dengan metode kajian literatur, yang menjadikan sejumlah sumber tulisan sebagai bahan referensi untuk menghasilkan sebuah kesimpulan dan rekomendasi. The conventional view of the media is that the changes that occur in the audience are caused by the content of the media itself. In this paper, the researcher tries to reopen the fact that it is not the content but the media that makes changes in the audience. This thought is the thought of Marshall McLuhan who is known in his view "the medium is the message" which raises pros and cons among communication theorists. This view was conveyed by McLuhan as a form of criticism of the conventional view. The conventional view seems to greatly glorify the power of messages or content from media that is considered "powerful" to influence its aud ience. This study shows that Neil Postman in his book "Amusing Ourselves to Death" supports McLuhan's thinking. He said that it is the form of media that changes the way people think and communicate, and also affects the way humans process information and shape the worldview. In addition, Karl Marx's thought, through his materialist approach, focuses on the material aspects of the media, such as technology, infrastructure, and political economy. Marx argued that material infrastructure (base) determines social and cultural structures (superstructures), no different from Dallas Smythe, with the concept of "audience commodity" seeing the audience as a product sold by the media to advertisers treated as a commodity. The thinking of Postman, Marx, and Smythe, in this case, also confirms McLuhan's thinking, that the media and not content are the catalyst for change. This study is a study conducted by the literature review method, which uses a number of writing sources as reference materials to produce a conclusion and recommendation.

Abstract

Indonesia yang terbentang dari sabang sampai merauke memiliki keragaman suku budaya yang sangat banyak. Salah satu budaya yang sampai sekarang masih ada dan dijalankan adalah budaya Kawin Lari atau Merariq oleh suku Sasak di desa Sade, Lombok. Proses Merariq sendiri berlangsung secara panjang dan terdapat peran masing-masing dari setiap pelaku Merariq. Jika ditelaah secara lebih mendalam, laki-laki memainkan peran yang vital dalam melaksanakan kegiatan ini, didorong dengan nilai-nilai maskulinitas yang dikonstruksi oleh desa Sade. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode etnografi. Pengumpulan data penelitian dilakukan dengan data primer, yaitu wawancara dan observasi serta data sekunder berupa data lain dari jurnal, buku maupun sumber lain yang relevan dengan topik yang dibahas. Wawancara dilakukan kepada local guide, anggota local guide serta pelaku Merariq sendiri. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa Merariq digunakan sebagai sebuah bentuk hubungan sosial  dalam mempertahankan nilai-nilai maskulinitas dan sampai sekarang keberadaannya terus ada seiring terus dilakukannya kegiatan Merariq. Kedudukan laki-laki yang mendominasi sendiri bukan menjadi sesuatu yang buruk melainkan bisa membantu mensukseskan kegiatan Merariq sendiri.    Indonesia, which stretches from Sabang to Merauke, has a great diversity of ethnic cultures. One culture that still exists and is practiced today is the Elopement or Merariq culture by the Sasak tribe in Sade village, Lombok. The Merariq process itself takes a long time and there is a role for each Merariq actor. If examined in more depth, men play a vital role in carrying out this activity, driven by the values of masculinity constructed by Sade village. This research uses a qualitative approach with ethnographic methods. Research data collection was carried out using primary data, namely interviews and observations as well as secondary data in the form of other data from journals, books and other sources relevant to the topic discussed. Interviews were conducted with local guides, local guide members and Merariq actors themselves. The research results show that Merariq is used as a form of social relationship in maintaining masculinity values and to this day its existence continues to exist as Merariq activities continue to be carried out. The dominating position of men in itself is not a bad thing but can help make Merariq's activities a success.

Abstract

Penelitian ini menyelidiki proses inkulturasi budaya, khususnya yang berfokus pada Muslim Tionghoa di Masjid Lautze di Jakarta. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi dinamika unik inkulturasi yang dialami komunitas Muslim Tionghoa di tengah masyarakat mayoritas Muslim Indonesia. Dengan menggunakan metode kualitatif, termasuk wawancara, observasi partisipan, dananalisis dokumen, penelitian ini menggali berbagai aspek adaptasi budaya, praktik keagamaan, dan interaksi sosial di kalangan Muslim Tionghoa di lingkungan masjid tertentu. Temuan penelitian ini menyoroti berbagai pengalaman strategi dakwah yang dilakukan pendakwah dengan mengkolaborasikan strategi komunikasi budaya Tionghoa dalam mengajarkan ajaran agama Islam. Hambatan yang tercermin berupa kendala identitas yang menghambat Muslim Tionghoa menjalani pembelajaran agama Islam. Mualaf Muslim Tionghoa di Masjid Lautze Jakarta menunjukkan respons positif terhadap komunikasi ajaran Islam oleh para Ustadz Tionghoa. Proses ini tidak hanya meningkatkan pemahaman agama, tetapi juga menciptakan pengalaman keagamaan yang mendalam. Interaksi positif dengan para Ustadz Tionghoa memperkuat keterlibatan aktif dalam kegiatan keagamaan, membentuk identitas keagamaan yang kuat, dan memberikan makna hidup yang berarti.    This research investigates the process of cultural inculturation, specifically focusing on Chinese Muslims at the Lautze Mosque in Jakarta. This research aims to explore the unique dynamics of inculturation experienced by the Chinese Muslim community in Indonesia’s Muslim majority society. Using qualitative methods, including interviews, participant observation, and document analysis, this research explores various aspects of cultural adaptation, religious practices, and social interactions among Chinese Muslims in certain mosque environments. The findings of this research highlight various experiences of da'wah strategies carried out by preachers by collaborating with Chinese cultural communication strategies in teaching Islamic religious teachings. The obstacles that are reflected are identity barriers that prevent Chinese Muslims from studying Islam. Chinese Muslim converts at Mosque Lautze Jakarta show a positive response to the communication of Islamic teachings by Chinese Ustazs. This process not only enhances religious understanding but also creates a profound religious experience. Positive interactions with Chinese Ustazs strengthen active participation in religious activities, shaping a strong religious identity, and providing meaningful life significance.

Abstract

Siaran Radio sebagai salah satu bentuk penyebarluasan informasi tentang berbagai hal yang menyangkut kemanusiaan sudah tidak asing lagi bagi masyarakat Sulawesi Utara. Tahun 2019 laporan BPS Sulut  menyebutkan jumlah pendengar radio di perkotaan sebanyak 17.58 % sedangkan di perdesaan 8,11%. Jumlah ini merupakan sasaran potensial dalam menanggulangi berbagai isu kemanusiaan ,jika dikemas dengan persiapan yang baik. Permasalahan yang akan diangkat dalam artikel ini adalah sejauhmana siaran radio fillers mampu dikemas dan disiarkan lewat Radio Sumber Kasih Manado dengan topik utama pencegahan perdangangan manusia lewat ketahanan keluarga. Kasus-kasus perdagangan manusia  melibatkan sindikat licik, berpengalaman ,sehingga sukar ditelusuri  dengan cara pemeriksaan biasa. Perdagangan  manusia pada skala global  sering disebut sebagai  perbudakan modern (a modern day form of slavery). Tujuan utama artikel ini adalah menemukan cara yang efektif dan efisien,  dalam memberikan informasi tentang pencegahan perdagangan manusia melalui siaran radio fillers. Oleh sebab itu, metode yang digunakan ialah penelitian tindakan (action research). Pertama, tersedianya skrip pesan-pesan yang akan disampaikan, dilanjutkan dengan tersedianya rekaman melalui laboratorium Ikom FISIP UPH. Kedua,terlaksananya penyiaran radio fillers oleh radio Sumber Kasih Manado. Dari hasil pemantauan beberapa alumni UPH menunjukan bahwa siaran radio fillers telah mengudara di Provinsi Sulawesi Utara dan sekitarnya,sesuai rencana yang telah disepakati bersama. Demikian juga petugas Radio Sumber Kasih menyatakan bahwa materi-materi yang disiarkan sesuai dengan visi misi RSK Manado.   Radio broadcasting as a form of disseminating information about various matters related to humanity is familiar to the people of North Sulawesi. In 2019, the BPS North Sulawesi report stated that the number of radio listeners in urban areas was 17.58% while in rural areas it was 8.11%. This number is a potential target in tackling various humanitarian issues, if packaged with good preparation. The problem that will be raised in this article is the extent to which fillers radio broadcasts can be packaged and broadcast through Radio Sumber Kasih Manado with the main topic of preventing human trafficking through family resilience. Human trafficking cases involve cunning, experienced syndicates, making them difficult to trace by ordinary means. Human trafficking on a global scale is often referred to as a modern day form of slavery. The main goal of this article is to find an effective and efficient way to provide information about the prevention of human trafficking through the art of radio fillers. Firstly, the availability of scripts of messages to be delivered, followed by the availability of recordings through the Ikom FISIP UPH laboratory. Secondly, the implementation of the broadcast of fillers radio by Sumber Kasih Manado radio.From the results of monitoring by several UPH alumni, it was shown that the fillers radio broadcast had been broadcast in North Sulawesi Province and its surroundings, according to the plan that had been agreed upon. Likewise, the Radio Sumber Kasih officer stated that the materials broadcast were in accordance with the vision and mission of RSK Manado.

Abstract

Representasi  perempuan dalam Sansana Bandar, dengan fokus pada manuskrip cerita Sansana Bandar “Bandar Huntip Batu Api” menggunakan metode etnografi dan paradigma naratif, analisis mencakup elemen-elemen cerita yang memperlihatkan peran kompleks perempuan. Meskipun tradisi kesetaraan Gender tetap terakar dalam masyarakat Dayak, cerita ini kadang tidak selaras dengan norma lokal, menciptakan ketegangan antara budaya dan naratif. Hasilnya memperlihatkan kompleksitas budaya dan pandangan terhadap Gender di Kalimantan Tengah, menyuguhkan pemahaman mendalam terhadap cerita sebagai refleksi budaya. Dianalisis menggunakan pendekatan etnografi sebagai metodologi penelitian. Data penelitian diambil melalui wawancara, dan observasi langsung dalam masyarakat Dayak Kalimantan Tengah, memberikan pemahaman yang lebih kontekstual terhadap Representasi perempuan dalam konteks budaya lokal. Konteks budaya, terutama norma-norma Gender, turut membentuk Representasi perempuan dalam cerita, dan Teori Paradigma Naratif memberikan perspektif terkait peran Gender dalam konteks sejarah dan kultural. Representation of women in Sansana Bandar, with a focus on the manuscript of the Sansana Bandar story 'Bandar Huntip Batu Api,' utilizes ethnographic methods and narrative paradigm. The analysis encompasses elements of the story that reveal the complex roles of women. Despite the tradition of gender equality being deeply rooted in Dayak society, this story sometimes deviates from local norms, creating tension between culture and narrative. The results showcase the cultural complexity and perspectives on gender in Central Kalimantan, offering a profound understanding of the story as a cultural reflection. It is analyzed using an ethnographic approach as a research methodology. Research data is obtained through interviews and direct observations within the Dayak community in Central Kalimantan, providing a more contextual understanding of the representation of women in the local cultural context. The cultural context, especially gender norms, contributes to shaping the representation of women in the story, and the Narrative Paradigm Theory provides a perspective on the gender roles in the historical and cultural context.

Abstract

Penelitian ini mengeksplorasi kritik Mahatma Gandhi terhadap teknologi modern dan relevansinya dengan perkembangan Teknologi Informasi dan Komunikasi (TIK) di Indonesia. Melalui metode tinjauan literatur, penelitian ini menyintesis berbagai sumber ilmiah untuk menganalisis pandangan Gandhi terhadap teknologi, termasuk dampak dehumanisasi, ketergantungan ekonomi, konsumsi berlebihan, degradasi lingkungan, kesenjangan sosial, dan terkikisnya nilai-nilai tradisional. Teks-teks kunci oleh Parel (2006), Hardiman (2003), Iyer (1993), Sharma (2008), Chatterjee (1983), dan Weber (1996) memberikan dasar untuk memahami pendirian filosofis dan etika Gandhi terhadap teknologi. Metodologi penelitian ini melibatkan tinjauan sistematis literatur, termasuk buku, artikel jurnal, dan dokumen sejarah, untuk mengontekstualisasikan pandangan Gandhi dalam lanskap TIK modern di Indonesia. Pendekatan ini memungkinkan adanya analisis komprehensif tentang bagaimana prinsip Swadeshi (kemandirian) dan Satyagraha (penolakan tanpa kekerasan) Gandhi dapat diterapkan pada isu-isu kontemporer seperti otomatisasi, kesenjangan digital, pengelolaan limbah elektronik, dan pelestarian budaya di Indonesia. . Temuan menunjukkan bahwa penekanan Gandhi pada kemandirian, penggunaan teknologi secara etis, dan pelestarian budaya lokal sangat relevan dalam mengatasi tantangan yang ditimbulkan oleh kemajuan teknologi yang pesat di Indonesia. Studi ini menyimpulkan bahwa memasukkan prinsip-prinsip Gandhi ke dalam kebijakan TIK dapat mendorong pengembangan teknologi yang lebih inklusif, berkelanjutan, dan menghormati budaya di Indonesia. This study explores Mahatma Gandhi's criticism of modern technology and its relevance to the development of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in Indonesia. Through the method of literature review, this study synthesizes various scientific sources to analyze Gandhi's views on technology, including the effects of dehumanization, economic dependence, overconsumption, environmental degradation, social inequality, and the erosion of traditional values. Key texts by Parel (2006), Hardiman (2003), Iyer (1993), Sharma (2008), Chatterjee (1983), and Weber (1996) provide the basis for understanding Gandhi's philosophical and ethical stance on technology. The methodology of this research involves a systematic review of literature, including books, journal articles, and historical documents, to contextualize Gandhi's views in Indonesia's modern ICT landscape. This approach allows for a comprehensive analysis of how Gandhi's principles of Swadeshi (selfreliance) and Satyagraha (non-violent rejection) can be applied to contemporary issues such as automation, the digital divide, e-waste management, and cultural preservation in Indonesia. The findings show that Gan dhi's emphasis on self-reliance, ethical use of technology, and preservation of local culture is very relevant in overcoming the challenges posed by Indonesia's rapid technological advancement. The study concludes that incorporating Gandhi's principles into ICT policy can encourage the development of more inclusive, sustainable, and culturally respectful technologies in Indonesia.

Abstract

Fenomena deskilling, yaitu penurunan keterampilan karyawan karena otomatisasi, telah muncul sebagai akibat dari kemajuan teknologi digital yang telah mengubah industri media. Transformasi ini, yang dipengaruhi oleh digitalisasi dan konvergensi media, menimbulkan tantangan struktural dan etis bagi mereka yang bekerja di media. Beberapa perbedaan utama antara media cetak dan digital termasuk kecepatan produksi, distribusi konten, dan interaksi audiens. Teknologi mempercepat proses tetapi mengurangi kedalaman dan kualitas jurnalistik. Studi literatur ini menyelidiki bagaimana kapitalisme mempercepat deskilling, yang ditandai dengan pengurangan otonomi pekerja dan dominasi teknologi otomatisasi. Pandangan Mosco, Smythe, dan Braverman mengungkap cara kapitalisme menggunakan teknologi untuk mengoptimalkan keuntungan sambil mengorbankan kreativitas karyawan. Tidak hanya fenomena ini menyebabkan pekerja kehilangan kontrol atas proses kreatif, tetapi juga meningkatkan ketidaksetaraan dalam dinamika tenaga kerja media. Termasuk dalam rekomendasi penelitian adalah kolaborasi manusia-teknologi untuk menciptakan lingkungan kerja yang inklusif, pengajaran keterampilan digital, dan adopsi model bisnis yang berfokus pada kualitas daripada kuantitas. Industri media dapat mengatasi tantangan deskilling dan membangun ekosistem kerja yang berkelanjutan di era digital dengan mempertahankan profesionalisme dan etika jurnalistik.

Abstract

As we enter the era of digital transformation, the integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has become essential in various sectors, particularly in education. The use of ICT in the learning process is crucial and significantly enhances the quality of education. In Indonesia, however, integrating ICT into education remains a challenge, especially following the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite these challenges, this situation also presents new opportunities for digital transformation. Acceptance of technology is a key requirement for effective integration of ICT in the learning process. Therefore, this research aims to analyze the technology acceptance among teaching staff regarding the use of ICT in education following the COVID-19 pandemic. This study employs a qualitative approach using a case study method. Data was collected through in-depth, semi-structured interviews with three purposively selected informants. Data analysis was conducted using the Technology Acceptance Model, and data validity was ensured through source triangulation. The results indicate that using ICT is viewed as beneficial for supporting classroom learning and is considered easy to implement and use. Consequently, ICT integration has been accepted in post-COVID-19 education as a valuable tool for enhancing the learning experience.

Abstract

This research aims to uncover the symbolic meaning and social function of the Gama' traditional wedding ritual of the Mongondow tribe. The Gama' tradition is the final stage of a series of wedding rituals that must be performed, encompassing 13 stages rich in symbolism and cultural values. This study uses a qualitative approach with ethnographic methods to gain an in-depth understanding of this ritual through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and literature review. The main informants consist of the head of the cultural heritage institution, traditional elders, and community members involved in the execution of the traditional ceremony. The results show that each stage in the Gama' tradition has symbolic meaning reflecting the ancestral, religious, moral, social, and ethical values of the Mongondow community. The study also found that despite the influence of modernization causing changes in the ritual's execution, the essence and symbolic meaning of the Gama' tradition are maintained. Abstract

Tembang macapat merupakan bentuk puisi tradisional Jawa yang sarat dengan pesan moral, nilai budaya, dan norma sosial yang disampaikan melalui lirik khas yang sering diiringi oleh gamelan. Setiap jenis macapat melambangkan fase kehidupan manusia, mulai dari kelahiran hingga kematian, sehingga berfungsi sebagai sarana ekspresi seni dan media penghubung antar generasi. Keberadaan tembang macapat tidak hanya berkontribusi pada pelestarian kekayaan budaya Jawa, tetapi juga menunjukkan kemampuannya untuk beradaptasi dalam menghadapi perkembangan zaman. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisa bagaimana proses penyampaian makna pesan dari isi tembang macapatan menjadi sebuah model komunikasi seni. Penelitian ini menggunakan paradigma interpretif dengan pendekatan kualitatif dan metode etnografi. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui wawancara mendalam dengan teknik semi-terstruktur serta observasi langsung. Melalui tiga tahap konstruksi makna tembang macapat-eksternalisasi, objektivasi, dan internalisasi-budaya ini dapat disosialisasikan dan diterima dalam kehidupan masyarakat. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa tembang macapat menyampaikan pesan moral melalui proses konstruksi makna, sehingga diterima dan dihargai sebagai nilai luhur dalam masyarakat. Meskipun menghadapi tantangan modernisasi, tembang macapat tetap memegang peranan penting dalam membentuk identitas budaya dan sosial melalui lirik yang khas dan pengiring gamelan. Oleh karena itu, diperlukannya upaya aktif dalam penyelenggaraan kompetisi dan acara budaya dengan tujuan meningkatkan pemahaman dan kelestarian tembang macapat agar tetap menjadi komponen penting dari identitas budaya masyarakat yang berkelanjutan./ Macapat is a traditional form of Javanese poetry that embodies moral messages, cultural values, and social norms conveyed through unique lyrics, often accompanied by the gamelan. Each type of macapat represents a stage of human life, from birth to death, serving as both an artistic expression and a bridge between generations. The presence of macapat contributes to preserving Javanese cultural richness, while it’s adaptability highlights it’s relevance across generations. The aim of this research is to analyze how the process of conveying the meaning of messages within tembang macapatan content can be developed into a model of artistic communication. The research adopts an interpretive paradigm with a qualitative approach and ethnographic methodes. Data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews using semi-structured techniques and direct observation. Through three stages of meaning construction of macapat songs-externalization, objectivation, and internalization-this culture can be socialized and accepted within society. The results of this research show that macapat communicates moral messages via a process of meaning construction, which makes it appreciated as a noble value within the community. Despite challenges from modernization, macapat still plays a significant role in shaping cultural and social identity. Thus, active efforts, such as organizing competitions and cultural events, are essential for fostering understanding and preserving macapat, ensuring it remains an enduring part of the community’s cultural identity.
