Abstract

or Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) where the cases always increase every year compared to other developing countries. Low Birth Weight (LBW) babies have a smaller chance of survival and are more susceptible to disease until adulthood. One of the factors that can cause LBW is maternal Hb (Hemoglobin) below 11 g / dl and KEK with LILA below 23.5 cm Methods: The type of observational analytical research with a cross-sectional design and a retrospective approach using research instruments in the KIA book, where each research subject is only observed once, and measurements of independent variables and dependent variables are carried out at the same time. The population in this study was 62 with inclusion criteria of mothers who have babies under one year old, have a KIA book, and are willing to be respondents. With the sampling technique using the total sampling technique. Results: Shows that most respondents did not experience anemia during pregnancy as many as 33 respondents (53.2%) in the KEK category most did not experience KEK during pregnancy as many as 38 respondents (61.3%) and in the LBW category most did not experience LBW during delivery as many as 42 respondents (67.7%). From the results of the Chi-Square analysis of anemia with LBW, a p-value (0.533)> (0.05) was obtained, so it can be concluded that H0 is accepted and Ha is rejected, which means there is no relationship between anemia and the incidence of LBW and from the results of the KEK analysis with LBW, a p-value (0.672)> (0.05) was obtained, so it can be concluded that H0 is accepted and Ha is rejected, which means there is no relationship between KEK and the incidence of LBW Discussion: : Anemia in pregnant women and KEK does not directly affect the incidence of LBW, there are several other factors that influence it, namely maternal age, ANC visits, and consumption of Fe tablets and nutritious food

Abstract

Bronchopneumonia is one of the leading causes of lower respiratory tract infections in children and is commonly associated with ineffective airway clearance resulting from excessive accumulation of thick airway secretions. Complementary nursing interventions, such as warm steam inhalation with eucalyptus oil, have been proposed to facilitate mucus clearance and improve respiratory function. Objective: To describe the nursing care of a child with bronchopneumonia through the implementation of complementary warm steam inhalation with eucalyptus oil to improve airway clearance. Methods: This study employed a descriptive case study design using a comprehensive nursing care approach. The participant was a 2-year-6-month-old child diagnosed with suspected bronchopneumonia and hospitalized in the pediatric ward of Graha Hermine Hospital, Batam City. Nursing interventions were developed according to the Indonesian Nursing Intervention Standards (SIKI). Complementary warm steam inhalation with three drops of eucalyptus oil added to warm, non-boiling water was administered once daily for three consecutive days (7–9 August 2024) for 15–20 minutes before routine pharmacological treatment. Clinical outcomes were evaluated using the Indonesian Nursing Outcomes Standards (SLKI) based on respiratory rate, sputum production, and adventitious breath sounds. Results: At baseline, the patient presented with shortness of breath, productive cough with thick yellow sputum, a respiratory rate of 32 breaths/min, and bilateral rhonchi on auscultation. Progressive clinical improvement was observed throughout the intervention period. By the third day, sputum production had markedly decreased, rhonchi were minimal to absent, cough effectiveness had improved, and respiratory rate decreased from 37 to 30 breaths/min after the intervention, indicating improved airway clearance. Conclusion: In this case, complementary warm steam inhalation with eucalyptus oil, administered alongside standard medical treatment, was associated with improved airway clearance, as demonstrated by reduced sputum production, diminished adventitious breath sounds, and gradual normalization of respiratory rate. Further studies with larger sample sizes and controlled study designs are needed to confirm the effectiveness and safety of this complementary nursing intervention in pediatric patients with bronchopneumonia.

Abstract

Introduction: Hyperlipidemia is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease and is closely associated with chronic inflammation, reflected by elevated C-reactive protein (CRP). Although statins effectively reduce lipid levels, their long-term use may produce adverse effects, highlighting the need for evidence-based complementary herbal therapies. Mulberry leaf (Morus alba L.) contains flavonoids and other bioactive compounds with hypolipidemic, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties. This study evaluated the effect of mulberry leaf extract supplementation on CRP levels in Sprague Dawley rats with hyperlipidemia. Methods: A true experimental pretest-posttest control group design was conducted using 24 male Sprague Dawley rats assigned to four groups (n = 6): normal, negative control, positive control (simvastatin), and treatment (Morus alba leaf extract, 600 mg/kg body weight/day). Hyperlipidemia was induced with a high-fat diet for eight weeks, followed by five weeks of intervention. Serum CRP levels were measured using a rat CRP ELISA kit. Data were analyzed using paired t-tests, Kruskal-Wallis, and Mann-Whitney post hoc tests (p < 0.05). Results: CRP levels decreased significantly in both the simvastatin and mulberry leaf extract groups (p < 0.001). Delta CRP values differed significantly among groups (p < 0.001), confirming that mulberry leaf extract effectively reduced systemic inflammation. Conclusion: Mulberry leaf extract shows promise as an evidence-based complementary herbal therapy for reducing inflammation and preventing cardiovascular complications, supporting its integration into complementary nursing interventions for cardiovascular disease prevention
