Abstract

Working mothers who raise children with a very close age gap often face layered psychological pressure caused by unexpressed negative emotions and the double burden of balancing work and household roles. This study aims to understand and describe the dynamics of emotional experience and double-burden management of a working mother raising two children nineteen months apart without full support from her partner. A qualitative case study approach was used, involving one main participant selected purposively based on the richness of information she possessed. Data were collected through a three-series in-depth interview exploring context, experience, and meaning, then analyzed thematically using a phenomenological approach. The findings revealed two main themes: the accumulation of suppressed emotions due to solo caregiving and the pressure of economic and domestic dual roles. Both themes are interrelated and form a pattern of chronic psychological exhaustion in the participant. The close age gap between children also triggers attention-seeking behavior, which becomes one of the main daily stressors for the participant experiencing chronic physical and mental fatigue. This study concludes that the lack of partner support is a central factor that worsens the caregiving fatigue experienced by working mothers with closely spaced children, highlighting the importance of emotional and practical support from partners and the surrounding environment.

Abstract

The changing perspectives of Generation Z toward romantic relationships indicate a tendency to be more selective in choosing life partners and to delay long-term commitment. This phenomenon suggests that life experiences play an important role in shaping perspectives on the criteria of an ideal life partner. This study aimed to understand the perspectives of Generation Z women regarding the criteria of an ideal life partner based on their life experiences. The study employed a qualitative approach with a phenomenological design. Participants were selected using purposive sampling and involved one unmarried Generation Z woman with experience in romantic relationships. Data were collected through in-depth interviews using a semi-structured interview guide and analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings revealed three main themes: emotional maturity and communication as the foundation of an ideal life partner, life experiences shaping partner selection standards, and selectiveness in choosing a partner as an effort to build a healthy and sustainable relationship. Experiences in romantic relationships, family, and the social environment contributed to the participant's perspective on an ideal life partner. The study concludes that Generation Z women's perspectives on an ideal life partner are constructed through the meaning-making process of life experiences that shape their preferences and considerations in choosing a partner

Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology has transformed the way adolescents interact, obtain information, and express themselves through social media. On the one hand, intensive social media use can provide various benefits; on the other hand, it may also have both positive and negative effects on adolescents' emotional well-being. This qualitative study aimed to explore adolescents' emotional experiences in using digital devices and social media, as well as their relationship with psychological well-being. The research employed a phenomenological approach, with data collected through semi-structured interviews involving five participants aged 16–18 years. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis, including data reduction, coding, category development, and the identification of major themes. The analysis revealed four primary themes: social media as a source of entertainment and emotional support, the emergence of social comparison that affects self-esteem, dependence on social validation through the number of likes and comments, and self-regulation efforts in managing social media use. The findings indicate that social media has a complex relationship with adolescents' psychological well-being. Positive effects emerge when social media is used as a means of communication and obtaining social support, whereas negative effects arise when excessive use leads to anxiety, overthinking, and decreased self-satisfaction due to social comparison.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the lack of attention to the experiences of men as victims of infidelity, despite the significant impact of relational betrayal on interpersonal trust and readiness to build new relationships. This study aims to explore the meaning of interpersonal trust and readiness to build new relationships in male victims of serious infidelity. A qualitative phenomenological approach was employed with one male participant aged 21 years, selected purposively. The primary instrument was the researcher herself, using a semi-structured interview guide. Data analysis was conducted through thematic coding, including raw code collection, code refinement, and grouping into main themes. The findings identified three main themes. First, the fragility of relational foundations amidst routine and family expectations, where the participant remained in a cooling relationship due to family involvement. Second, profound psychological impact and self-recovery strategies, including shock, overthinking, loss of focus, and recovery efforts through physical and recreational activities. Third, reconstruction of trust and ambivalent readiness toward new relationships, demonstrating a shift from naive trust to selective and evidence-based trust, yet still shadowed by fear of repeated betrayal. This study concludes that infidelity fundamentally transforms how men perceive trust and relationships, and that recovery is a personal, lengthy, and non-linear process.

Abstract

Emerging adulthood is a developmental stage characterized by identity exploration and important life decisions related to education, career, interpersonal relationships, and future planning. One decision increasingly considered by emerging adults is joining the Au Pair program as a means of cultural exchange and self-development. This study aimed to explore the experiences of emerging adults in facing the dilemma of deciding whether to participate in the Au Pair program in Germany. A qualitative phenomenological approach was employed. Participants were selected using purposive sampling, while data were collected through in-depth interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings revealed three major themes: expectations for self-development, dilemmas and uncertainty in facing change, and decision-making as a process of personal maturity. The findings indicate that the decision to join the Au Pair program is influenced by aspirations for personal growth, emotional considerations, and readiness to face change. This study is expected to contribute to the understanding of decision-making processes during emerging adulthood within the field of developmental psychology.
