Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of alternative feed based on local plants on the performance of village chickens. The alternative feed used in this study consisted of local plants commonly found around the farming areas, such as moringa leaves, cassava leaves, and corn. The study involved village chickens divided into several treatment groups, with different compositions of alternative plant-based feed. The measured variables included body weight growth, feed intake, feed conversion ratio, and egg production. The results showed that the use of alternative feed based on local plants can improve the performance of village chickens, with better body weight and egg production compared to commercial feed. This indicates the potential of plant-based local feed as an economical and environmentally friendly alternative in village chicken farming.

Abstract

Good barn management is one of the important factors in supporting pig productivity. This study aims to analyze the impact of barn management on pig productivity, including growth, health, and reproduction. The research method used was direct observation at pig farms implementing various barn management systems, such as ventilation, sanitation, feeding, and temperature management. The results of the study show that optimal barn management can improve the quality of life of pigs, accelerate growth, and reduce mortality and disease rates. On the other hand, poor barn management can reduce productivity and increase the risk of infections. Therefore, proper barn management plays a significant role in the efficiency and success of pig farming.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the meat quality of broiler chickens at different harvest ages. Broiler chickens were raised in three different harvest age groups: 28 days, 35 days, and 42 days. The parameters measured included moisture content, fat content, protein content, as well as meat texture and taste. The results showed that the quality of broiler chicken meat tended to improve with increasing harvest age, especially in terms of protein content and meat texture. Chickens harvested at 42 days of age had higher fat content, but the meat texture was more tender compared to chickens harvested at 28 days. Therefore, selecting the right harvest age can affect the quality of the resulting broiler chicken meat.

Abstract

The efficiency of sheep reproduction is influenced by various factors, including feed management and environmental conditions. This study aims to evaluate the effect of feed management and environmental conditions on the reproductive efficiency of local sheep in Jambi. A total of 60 local sheep were divided into three treatment groups: (A) high-quality feed with an optimal environment, (B) standard feed with an optimal environment, and (C) standard feed with a suboptimal environment. The reproductive parameters observed included estrus rate, conception rate, pregnancy rate, and litter size. The results showed that Group A had the highest reproductive efficiency, with an estrus rate of 95%, a conception rate of 85%, and an average litter size of 1.8 lambs per ewe. In contrast, Group C had the lowest reproductive efficiency, with a 65% estrus rate, a 50% conception rate, and an average litter size of 1.2 lambs per ewe. The findings indicate that nutritional intake and environmental factors significantly affect reproductive efficiency, with high-quality feed and optimal environmental conditions yielding the best reproductive performance. This study suggests that improving feed management and optimizing environmental conditions can enhance sheep productivity and contribute to the sustainability of local sheep farming.
