Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of adding eco-enzyme in drinking water on egg weight, shell thickness and yolk color of IPB-D1 chicken eggs. The chickens used in this study were 96 (72 females and 24 males). The method used was a completely randomized design consisting of 4 treatments and 6 replications, each replication consisting of 4 chickens (1 male, 3 females). The treatments given were: P1 = drinking water without eco-enzyme (control), P2 = 1 Cc eco-enzyme/L drinking water/3 days, P3 = 2 Cc eco-enzyme/L drinking water/3 days, P4 = 3 Cc eco-enzyme/L drinking water/3 days. The number of eggs used to observe the quality of the egg interior was 72 eggs, 6 eggs for each treatment, and 3 replications. The results of statistical analysis showed that the treatment had a significant effect (P <0.05) on egg weight, shell thickness. The treatment did not significantly affect (P>0.05) the color of the egg yolk. The conclusion is that the addition of eco-enzyme in drinking water with a dose of 2 Cc/L of drinking water/3 days can increase the egg weight and shell thickness of IPB-D1, but does not affect the color of the egg yolk.

Abstract

The main focus included identifying feed types, determining efficient forage and concentrate feed weights, and monitoring weight gain in beef cattle. Data were collected through direct observation and measurements on a sample of 23 beef cattle. The results indicated that the feeds used included forage (elephant grass and corn stalks), concentrate (Hi-Pro-Vite 563B), and additional feeds (hay, bean sprouts, mineral blocks). Feeding was carried out systematically, considering frequency (three times for forage, twice for concentrate) and timing. Administering concentrate prior to forage proved beneficial to the digestive performance. The average weight gain of beef cattle was influenced by feed efficiency based on dry matter intake proportions. Good feed management was shown to increase productivity and reduce maintenance costs for beef cattle.

Abstract

Local chickens in Indonesia possess significant genetic potential to be developed in support of national food security. However, their productivity needs improvement through effective and sustainable breeding programs. This study aims to analyze the genetic diversity and population structure of local chickens from three different regions using microsatellite (SSR) markers as a basis for breeding program development. Blood samples from 150 local chickens were collected, and DNA was isolated and analyzed using PCR and electrophoresis techniques to identify genetic variation. Results showed an average heterozygosity of 0.65 and a genetic differentiation among populations with an Fst value of 0.12, indicating considerable genetic diversity and a fragmented population structure. Genetic analysis also revealed associations between genetic markers and important phenotypic traits such as body weight and egg production, as well as potential adaptation to extreme environmental conditions. These findings highlight the importance of molecular technology utilization in local chicken breeding programs to enhance productivity while maintaining adaptive traits. The study recommends the development of marker-assisted selection and genetic resource conservation as key strategies to support the national livestock breeding program.

Abstract

The use of antibiotics in animal feed has long been a common practice to promote growth and prevent disease, but it poses the risk of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), which negatively affects both animal and human health. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of local herbal plants as alternative antibiotics in broiler feed. The selected herbs included betel leaf (Piper betle), turmeric (Curcuma longa), and Java ginger (Curcuma xanthorrhiza). A completely randomized design (CRD) was applied with four treatments: control (without antibiotics), synthetic antibiotics, betel leaf extract, and a combination of turmeric and Java ginger extracts, each with four replications. The results showed that herbal extract treatments significantly improved body weight gain, feed conversion ratio (FCR), and reduced mortality compared to the control group. The best performance was observed in the group receiving the combination of turmeric and Java ginger, which approached the results of the synthetic antibiotic group. Microbiological analysis indicated a significant reduction in the population of Escherichia coli and Salmonella spp. in the herbal treatment groups. Phytochemical screening revealed the presence of bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, tannins, and saponins, which play roles as antibacterial and immunomodulatory agents. In conclusion, local herbal plants have great potential as natural antibiotic alternatives in livestock feed, offering competitive effectiveness and safer impacts on health and the environment. Further research is required to standardize dosage and formulation for broader implementation at the industrial scale.

Abstract

Climate change poses a significant challenge to the livestock sector, particularly affecting livestock productivity and farmers’ livelihoods. This study aims to analyze the impact of climate change on livestock productivity and to identify adaptation strategies implemented by farmers across regions with different climatic characteristics. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining quantitative data from surveys of 150 farmers and qualitative data from in-depth interviews and focus group discussions. Results indicate a significant decline in milk production, body weight gain, and an increase in livestock disease incidence associated with rising temperatures and changing rainfall patterns. Farmers have responded by adopting various adaptation strategies, including improved barn management, selection of heat-tolerant livestock breeds, and supplementary feeding practices. This study highlights the importance of policy support and technology access to strengthen farmers’ resilience against climate change. The findings provide valuable insights for developing sustainable livestock adaptation policies and programs.
