Abstract

The concept of "urban" is often understood from various perspectives, but not comprehensively. This writing aims to provide a deeper understanding of the concept of urban, particularly urban space quality. The definition of urban space quality has not been fully captured, which motivates the need for a more in-depth exploration of the term. The research problem is the lack of a comprehensive understanding of the concept of urban space quality, leading to the absence of a universally accepted definition. The aim of this article is to examine the suitability of the use of the term "urban space quality" to provide a reference for its usage. The article utilizes a literature review, drawing from credible and traceable sources such as books, national-international journals, dictionaries, official documents, and previous studies related to the etymology of urban, urban space, and urban space quality. Urban space is defined as an external space contributing to the city's structure, communication, and social interaction. The concept of urban space quality remains multifaceted, with varying interpretations and dimensions, including safety, livability, environmental conditions, and social development. The findings underscore the complexity of urban space quality and the need for a comprehensive understanding of its parameters and factors.

Abstract

Human Architects cannot be replaced, even with Artificial Intelligence, but Artificial Intelligence could represent an Architect, especially in problem-solving. An architect is not eternal. Brilliant ideas vanished alongside the physical form of an Architect. By respecting the Architect who had left this world while simultaneously keeping the brilliant ideas alive, Artificial Intelligence could represent the Architect as a legacy that always lives through unique problem-solving solutions according to each individual. Using the methods done in the past, such as GANs, writers design the shape of an Artificial Intelligence by using data collection methods such as manual input, then realizing the Artificial Intelligence through machine learning, and later will be available through a digital application like a book. This book could interact with its reader. This research uses descriptive qualitative methods based on a literature review on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the world of architecture. The results obtained are that humans will live side by side with technology, and in the future.

Abstract

Malay is one ethnic that lives on riverbank of Kapuas. Settlements on riverbanks consist of physical elements such as buildings, river flow patterns, and their inhabitants, as well as non-physical elements in the form of rules and local wisdom. Rivers are environmental elements that shape settlement patterns in Mendawai and Bansir villages. Riverbanks are a place for social and cultural activities that illustrate a harmonious balance between humans and the natural environment. Natural conditions and physical/non-physical elements make residents in both villages adapt to current needs. This research explores forms of social adaptation in the settlement of Malay people on riverbanks. The method used in this research is a descriptive and qualitative approach, which describes the existing conditions of two Kampung, Mendawai and Bansir, in the Bansir Laut Subdistrict using the adaptation strategy theory. Data was collected by field observation, literature study, and digital tracing. The results of this research illustrate the social adaptation of the people in Mendawai and Bansir villages according to the environmental conditions on the riverbanks. The village circulation route of both Kampung is maintained with Gertak and Steher as essential elements of the environment, which is experiencing changes as a manifestation form of the social adaptation of the Malay people on the banks of the Kapuas River.

Abstract

Traditional architecture is a cultural heritage resulting from the lives of traditional communities, encompassing both art and architectural knowledge. Similar to traditional architecture in many other regions of the Indonesian archipelago, traditional Semende architecture represents cultural heritage with variations in function, ornamentation, and form, often referred to as "Rumah Baghi." In daily life, the Semende indigenous community has established a robust inheritance law, deeply influenced by their kinship system. Notably, they place special emphasis on the eldest daughter's position as a principle within their customary concept known as "Tunggu Tubang." This kinship system distinguishes them from other cultures and imparts a unique characteristic to Semende's traditional architecture. This research aims to examine how the Tunggu Tubang kinship system influences the physical manifestation of Semende's traditional architecture. The research employs a qualitative descriptive methodology, involving data collection through field observations, interviews, and relevant literature studies. The findings reveal that within the Semende indigenous society, the Tunggu Tubang kinship system is vividly reflected in the architecture. The spatial arrangement within the Rumah Baghi signifies social structure and hierarchy, exterior ornamentation symbolizes the characteristics of matrilineal kinship, and traditional architecture reflects the principles of robust matrilineal inheritance.

Developing tourism villages with the concept of agroedutourism is one of the efforts to improve regional competitiveness. Pagarawan Village, Bangka Regency, has excellent potential to be developed as an agroedutourism village. This study aims to determine the development of agroedutourism in Pagarawan Village based on community participation. This research uses a qualitative method with a case study approach. Primary data was obtained through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results showed that the development of agroedutourism in Pagarawan Village is based on active participation from the community. This participation provides concrete benefits to the community, such as increased knowledge about agriculture and fisheries and increased income. The development of agroedutourism in Pagarawan Village is carried out by maximising the potential possessed by the village, such as its main tours, namely, oyster mushroom cultivation, freshwater fish farming, mangrove crab farming, and hydroponics. The supporting tours are fishing areas, culinary areas, outbound areas for children, lazy river areas, and water sports. The site can be developed into several activity spots prioritising the agriculture, fisheries, community, education, and tourism sectors. To make the tourism village sustainable, it requires active participation from the surrounding community in development and management and support from the local government.

Abstract

The Extraordinary School for Rehabilitation of Deaf and Speech Impaired Foundation (YRTRW) is one of the educational foundations for deaf children in Surakarta. There is lack of ideal needs for deaf children when using public facilities in terms of comfort and safety, so this is a consideration in developing public facilities. In particular, the educational facilities for deaf children in Surakarta are not entirely ideal due to the limited benefits and functions of the spatial elements. It is because some problem factors that are typical of deaf people need to be connected in the development of interior elements to furnish the right solution for deaf people to be able to perform activities optimally and independently. This research was conducted to review the design of interior elements in the SLB-B YRTRW Surakarta. This research uses the qualitative descriptive method and is collected through observations, interviews, documentation, and analysis using literature study. The results of this study showed shortcomings in the interior design of the SLB-B YRTRW Surakarta reanalyzed in the 5 principles of The Deaf Space Design Guidelines by Hansel Bauman. Three principles have not been met: space and proximity, sensory reach, and mobility and proximity.

Abstract

This research investigates the implementation of lean construction and its benefits in construction projects in Palembang. A qualitative approach is applied through literature review and in-depth interviews with respondents experienced in the construction projects. The interview results indicate that the implementation of lean construction in Palembang is still limited, although it has the potential to reduce carbon emissions and improve efficiency. Additionally, it is found that further introduction to the concept of lean construction is highly necessary, especially among architects, to facilitate the decision-making for sustainable design. The development of awareness of lean construction to practitioners in the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry in Palembang is essential to support the realisation of sustainable development.

Abstract

One of the problems in urban areas is the increasing need for housing. This happens in various metropolitan cities, one of which is Semarang as the 5th largest city in Indonesia. With housing needs, especially for low-income workers, Pondok Boro is a solution for them. The aim of this research was to determine the residential characteristics of Pondok Boro Kampung Sumeneban, Semarang. The method used is descriptive qualitative, using purposive sampling. From the results of the discussion, the residents' priority scale does not concern the quality of housing, the most important thing for them is a cheap rental system, and being close to their place of work makes Pondok Boro a choice for workers who migrate to the city of Semarang. With the ownership status of the residence being managed by a private party, this building still has not had much repair or residential development. From the physical aspect of the building, there is a change in the function of the building, which was originally a warehouse into a residence for low-income workers which has two types, namely the stall type and the room type. From a macro perspective, the building still uses original materials, only a few materials such as roof tiles and additional space that adapt to the residents' needs.
