Abstract

Based on the researcher's observations while undergoing internship practice at Catholic Primary School Karitas II, Surabaya, it was observed that the process of teaching and learning activities related to Catholic Religious Education subjects was still focused more on one method, namely the lecture method. The method is so far making the students are not so active and happy following the process of catholic religious education teaching. Based on the research problems, the researcher was trying to find out a particular method of teaching in order to improve catholic religious teaching and learning activities in a more active and happy manner. This method of teaching is so called the Quantum Learning method. This research aims to determine the significant influence of applying the Quantum Learning method for an active and happy learning process related to the Catholic Religious Education subject. The method used in the research is the Quasi Experimental Design in the form of Non-equivalent Control Group Design. The population of the study consisted of the students belong to the 5th grade of the catholic elementary Karitas II Surabaya. Data collection was done by using questionnaire technique. Research data was analyzed by applying the t-test method. The results of data analyzed indicated that there was a significant influence of the Quantum Learning method on students’ learning activity with a significance value of learning scored by 0.000. This is because the scored value of 0.00 is smaller than the table value scored by 0.05.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the validity of Canva-based animated presentation media and assess the practicality of Canva-based animated presentation media in Religious Studies. The subjects of this study were 30 students of grade XI at Bonaventura Senior High School, Madiun. The data analysis techniques used in the study were qualitative descriptive analysis and qualitative descriptive analysis. The value analysis used the coefficient value from Aiken’s V. Aiken’s V is an agreement index of the average according to the items with indicators, and measurements using those items.The type of research is Research and Development (R&D) with the ADDIE steps; Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. Data collection methods use questionnaires tested by 2 expert media validators, 2 expert content validators, as well as small group tests and field trials. The results of the media expert validation test obtained a V index of 0.90 (very feasible criteria), and the score from the content expert resulted in a V index of 0.85 (very feasible criteria), indicating that the developed media meets the validity criteria. The results of the small group trial by 3 students obtained a score of 80.00, indicating very good criteria, and the results of the field trial by 30 students obtained a score of 78.77, also indicating very good criteria. The development of Canva-based animated presentation media in Religiosity Studies is declared feasible for use to support face-to-face and offline learning.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of Catholic families in the faith education of teenagers, especially in the midst of current technological advancements. It is hoped, that this research can provide benefits and serve as a source of information regarding the role of families in the faith education of teenagers amidst technological advancements. The method used in this research is qualitative method with interview techniques. The informants in this study amounted to seven (7) people, namely several Catholic families in the Santa Cecilia Community, specifically in the area 4th, Parish of Saint Cornelius, Madiun. The informants in this study are several Catholic families who have children in the teenage age range of 12-18 years old. The results of this study indicate that parents have played an active role in providing religious education to teenage children by teaching them to pray, setting a good example, showing love and affection, and involving teenagers in church life

Abstract

Character education is an educational program that instills good values. The development of the times has hurt the development of students' faith, this shows the failure of character education programs for students so families, communities, and schools must be made aware again of how important character education is for students. Many students are mired in negative things such as smoking, skipping classes, consuming alcohol and drugs, and even entangled in free sex. The purpose of this study was to determine the role of character education in the development of students' faith, efforts to implement character education that can develop Christian faith, and find out the factors that influence the development of students' faith. This study used a descriptive qualitative method, and data collection techniques were carried out using observation, interview, and documentation methods on 5 students and 2 teachers at SMPK Santo Yusuf Madiun. The results showed that the informants understood the role of character education as an effort to develop Christian faith. Character education is provided to provide character insight, understand moral values, and shape the personality of students. Efforts are made through habituation activities such as morning prayer, meditation, student mass, recollection, and other activities. Factors supporting the development of students' faith are parents, school activities, and supporting spiritual facilities. Inhibiting factors usually come from student awareness, social environment, and background.

Abstract

This study explores the involvement of adult parishioners in the Sunday’s Liturgy of the Word Celebration at St. Cecilia Basic Christian Community in Beribit, Paroki St. Eugeninus de Mazenod, Diocese of Tanjung Selor. The main objective of this research is to examine the factors affecting the low attendance of adult members in the celebration and to understand the underlying issues contributing to this phenomenon. The study highlights that the Sunday’s Liturgy of the Word Celebration is crucial for both the faith formation of the parishioners and the fostering of a pastoral spirit among adults. However, many adult members refrain from attending the service due to low awareness of its significance. This qualitative study uses structured interviews as its primary data collection method, with purposive sampling employed to select informants. Data analysis follows an inductive approach. The findings reveal that the low participation of adults is primarily due to a lack of understanding regarding the importance of the Liturgy of the Word Celebration and resistance to the involvement of lay leaders in the service.

Abstract

A Catholic religious teacher has carried out his/her duties in public schools not only as an educator, but also as a faith companion of the students. However, the Catholic students are still experiencing particular obstacles related to the Catholic faith formation in public school. This is because of the Catholic students in public schools perceived as a minority group, and therefore getting lesser attention, especially in terms of both Catholic religious learning and faith building activities in schools. The problem studied in the research is how a Catholic religious teacher can carry out his/her role as a faith companion of the students to effectively build up the faith of Catholic students as a minority group in public schools. This study applies a qualitative research method, and research data was collected using a depth interview technique. The research informants were Catholic religious teachers who have taught at public schools for years. The results of the study indicated that Catholic religious teachers have fully understood their role as faith companions of the Catholic students in public schools. The role of Catholic religious teachers in public schools is to accompany the faith of Catholic students through faith-building activity aimed to make the faith of the students being grown and matured.

Abstract

The aim of this research is mainly to know on how the Catholic Couples who live in rural areas in internalizing the marriage vows in the middle of applies the Qualitative method with purposive sampling couples at Saint Hilarius Parish - Klepu, age for marriage ranges from 5-15 years. The results of this research have shown that marriage vows being internalized as a holy bond, as moral and spiritual responsibility, as well as commitment and a lifelong faithfulness. Sosial media is used widely as a communication tool, mainly to keep bond when being far from each other and strengthening the relationship. However, social media also can give negative impact, such as to reduce quality direct interactions and as an opening potential to the temptation from outsider. In general, couples in this parish have a positive effort in internalizing their marriage vows with the awareness on the challenges in this digital era.

Abstract

St Louis 2 Catholic High School Surabaya has an unique living because of instilling Vincentian values carried out through Vincentian Character Education. The valeus of St. Vincent A Paulo has been instilling namely humility, simplicity, gentleness, mortification and zeal for souls. This research aimed to explore the efforts to implement Vincentian Character Education as a local content at St Louis 2 Catholic High School Surabaya. The research was conducted using a qualitative approach. Research data collection was carried out using an individual interview tecnique. The research informants were the principal of the school and teachers who are teaching Character Education of Vincentian at St Louis 2 Catholic High School Surabaya. The results of the research show that the implementation of Vincentian Character Education for students at St Louis 2 Catholic High School Surabaya is carried out through an active learning in the classroom as a separated subject of Character Education. The subject has three major points, namely planning, implementation and evaluation.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the role of parents in educating children’s faith and the strategies applied in addressing the challenges of digital technological advancement in the St. Gregorius community of Mater Dei Parish, Madiun. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method, with data collected through semi-structured interviews involving six parents with children aged 5–12 years. The data were analyzed thematically through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that parents have a strong awareness of their role as primary faith educators. This role is manifested through role modeling, prayer habituation, guidance, and supervision of digital technology usage. However, parents face challenges such as gadget addiction, reduced family interaction, and disruptions in children’s spiritual life. To address these issues, parents implement strategies such as limiting technology use, monitoring, and utilizing technology as a supportive medium for faith education. In conclusion, the role of parents remains the key factor in shaping children’s faith, and digital technology can be used positively when managed wisely.

Abstract

This study aims to understand the perspectives of the faithful of Saint Vincentius a Paulo Parish, Surabaya, regarding their participation in daily Eucharistic celebrations and the spiritual fruits they experience through such participation. The study is motivated by various challenges faced by the faithful in participating in daily Eucharistic celebrations, including a lack of interest in attending daily Mass, limited understanding of the Eucharist, the perception that devotional practices are more important than the Eucharist, and the assumption that Eucharistic celebrations are monotonous and less engaging. This research employed a qualitative method and was conducted at Saint Vincentius a Paulo Parish, Surabaya. The participants consisted of eight respondents selected through purposive sampling techniques. Data were collected through observation and direct interviews. The findings reveal that the faithful of Saint Vincentius a Paulo Parish demonstrate a strong commitment to attending and participating in daily Eucharistic celebrations. Their participation provides significant spiritual fruits, particularly in fostering personal spiritual growth and development, as well as bringing positive impacts to their family life.
