Abstract

This paper examines the vulnerability of undocumented Indonesian migrant workers in Malaysia by highlighting the human security paradox within the migration regime. Undocumented status is not only an administrative condition but also a structural mechanism that produces systemic illegality, insecurity, and uncertainty. Drawing on Nicholas De Genova’s argument that migrant illegality is socio-politically produced through state regulation, the paper argues that the logic of protection within the migration regime not only fails to reduce vulnerability but rather perpetuates it in everyday life. This paradox illustrates how the existing protection regime, rather than mitigating vulnerability, contributes to its persistence among undocumented migrant workers. Using qualitative methods and a case study approach, this research explores the lived experiences of undocumented migrant workers through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and secondary sources. The findings indicate that fear of detention and deportation constrains undocumented workers from accessing formal protection channels and compels them to rely on informal networks of solidarity. This dynamic demonstrates that illegality restricts access to rights and protections, thereby reproducing the vulnerabilities that protection frameworks are intended to address. By situating the experiences of undocumented migrant workers within a broader security framework, this research contributes to critical migration and human security studies.

Abstract

East Java is a highly significant political arena for Nahdlatul Ulama due to its pesantren ecology, networks of kiai, and affiliate organizations which possess strong social proximity and influence. As a base for nahdliyin citizens, East Java becomes a contested arena for gubernatorial candidate pairs to gain public sympathy. In fact, during the process, all candidate pairs claim to represent the nahdliyin community in East Java. Meanwhile, Instagram as a social media platform has become an intensive visual political campaign medium to win over the wider public. This research aims to explain how Nahdlatul Ulama identity is constructed, contested, and disseminated through Instagram during the 2024 East Java Gubernatorial Election. Therefore, this study examines the phenomenon of NU identity being contested by East Java gubernatorial and vice-gubernatorial candidates using a qualitative approach with critical discourse analysis. The theoretical framework combines Stuart Hall's representation theory and Michel Foucault's reading of power relations to analyze meaning production, symbolic legitimation, and truth regimes in digital space. The findings show three main patterns in the construction of NU identity on Instagram: an authoritative-institutional pattern, a hybrid nationalist-santri pattern, and a nahdliyin-populist authenticity pattern. Across these patterns, all three utilize symbolic meanings such as pesantren, kiai, songkok, the color green, sowan, and santri symbols as capital to gain legitimacy from the nahdliyin community. However, these symbols render the contestation of ideas, substantive policies, and concepts superficial. Thus, Instagram not only functions as a campaign medium but also as an arena for simplifying NU identity into electoral symbols

Abstract

This study addresses the global environmental crisis caused by modern anthropocentric paradigms that detach humans from nature, reducing ecological entities to mere commodities. It specifically explores the legislative transformation of the Whanganui River in New Zealand through the enactment of the Te Awa Tupua Act 2017. Utilizing Matthew Paterson’s Green Theory framework, this research examines how this landmark legal reform functions as a structural response to ecological degradation. Methodologically, this study is conducted as a qualitative case study that analyzes historical policies, colonial legal frameworks, and environmental conflicts within the Whanganui River system The principal conclusion demonstrates that by granting legal personhood to the river, the Te Awa Tupua Act 2017 offers a conceptual challenge to the deep structures of modernity, including the state system, capitalism, knowledge, and patriarchy. This shift from anthropocentrism to eco-centrism provides a pathway to reconstruct environmental governance, redistribute ecological risks, and serve as an influential model for global decolonization and ecological justice.

Abstract

This study addresses the challenges of idle waqf assets and the continued reliance on conventional waqf management practices, which limit transparency, efficiency and public participation. To address these issues, the Infak and Sedekah Management Institution (LMI) Surabaya has undertaken a digital transformation through Sharia-compliant financial technology (fintech). This study aims to examine the transformation process and develop an Integrative Sharia Fintech Model for productive waqf management. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, institutional documents, and digital platform observations, and analyzed through data reduction, display, interpretation, and conclusion drawing. The findings show that productive waqf management has been digitally transformed through the integration of platforms such as wakafo.org and lmizakat.org for fundraising, recording, management, monitoring, and reporting activities. This transformation improves operational efficiency, expands waqif participation, and enhances transparency and accountability. The study contributes by developing an Integrative Sharia Fintech Model consisting of three interconnected dimensions: Digital Technology Infrastructure, Waqf Governance and Institutional Management, and Sharia and Regulatory Compliance. The interaction among these dimensions creates an integrated productive waqf ecosystem that strengthens trust, participation, efficiency, and sustainability. The model extends the literature on Islamic social finance by providing a comprehensive framework for digital productive waqf management.

Abstract

In an era of economic volatility and pervasive digitalization, the younger generation confronts the intensifying pressures of consumerism culture driven by the fear of missing out (FOMO), which threatens productive work ethics and exacerbates youth unemployment. This study analyzes the direct and indirect effects of family economic socialization on youth productive behavior, positioning Islamic religiosity as a mediating variable. Employing a causal quantitative design, this study examined 385 Muslim youths in East Java classified as digital natives. Data collected through structured questionnaires were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) via SmartPLS 4. Results reveal that family economic socialization positively and significantly influences Islamic religiosity (β = 0.754, p = 0.000) and youth productive behavior (β = 0.465, p = 0.000). Islamic religiosity further exerts a positive and significant influence on productive behavior (β = 0.249, p = 0.000), while the indirect effect confirms its critical mediating role (β = 0.188, p = 0.000). The study extends Social Cognitive Theory by incorporating Islamic religiosity as an internal self-regulatory mechanism that mediates family-based economic learning and productive behavior.

Abstract

The issue of stunting has largely been treated as a biomedical problem to be solved through technical intervention without considering the politics of the problem. This paper seeks to analyze how the governance of stunting occurs within the power/knowledge complex and how communities interact with such interventions in the Indonesian case. In a qualitative study carried out using case study methodology within Ngusikan village, data was gathered using interview, focus group discussion, observation and documentation methods involving twenty-two respondents. Using the Foucault-inspired theoretical perspective, the study identifies three key dynamics of how stunting governance happens: (1) the processes of governance involve surveillance and normalization through the posyandu and growth monitoring systems; (2) medical discourse represents the dominant regime of truth, which continually competes with the local knowledge; and (3) communities, especially mothers, creatively respond to such interventions.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the contribution and optimization of local taxes in increasing Regional Original Revenue (PAD) in Nganjuk Regency. The study applies a descriptive quantitative approach by using secondary data on PAD realization and local tax revenues during 2016-2020, supported by interviews and documentation at the local revenue office. The results indicate that PAD increased nominally from Rp323.04 billion in 2016 to Rp403.08 billion in 2020, but the contribution of PAD to total regional income remained relatively low, indicating that fiscal independence has not been fully achieved. Local taxes became the most strategic PAD component after other legitimate PAD, with an average contribution of 25.64% to PAD and an average growth of 12.13% per year. The dominant local taxes were PBB-P2, street lighting tax, and BPHTB, while several taxes such as entertainment tax, parking tax, groundwater tax, and mineral tax contributed relatively small and fluctuating amounts. Optimization requires integrated intensification and extensification through data updating, digital transaction monitoring, taxpayer education, institutional coordination, and stronger supervision. The study concludes that strengthening local tax governance, transparency, and accountability is essential to build sustainable regional fiscal independence

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of School Operational Assistance fund management and budget transparency on teacher performance at MTs Negeri 6 Madiun. The study employed a quantitative approach with descriptive and verification analysis. The population consisted of 38 teachers, and all members of the population were used as respondents through a saturated sampling technique. Data were collected through questionnaires, observation, and documentation, while the data were analyzed using multiple linear regression. The findings indicate that BOS fund management and budget transparency have positive and significant effects on teacher performance, both partially and simultaneously. The simultaneous contribution of the two independent variables reached 82.89 percent, indicating that school financial governance is a major determinant of teacher performance. Nevertheless, the implementation of BOS fund management and budget transparency has not fully reflected good governance principles because access to information, reporting discipline, and stakeholder participation remain limited. These conditions influence teacher performance in lesson planning, classroom implementation, learning evaluation, administrative completeness, and participation in additional school activities. The study emphasizes that effective, accountable, and transparent school financial governance can strengthen teacher motivation, improve the learning environment, and support sustainable educational quality.

Abstract

This article aims to analyze the influence of the Family Hope Program social assistance on poverty reduction among beneficiary families in Kesamben Subdistrict, Jombang Regency. The study was developed from quantitative research involving 97 respondents representing a population of 2,813 beneficiary families. The independent variables include the utilization of assistance in the health, education, and economic sectors, while the dependent variable is poverty reduction. Data were collected through questionnaires, observation, documentation, and interviews, and then analyzed using descriptive statistics, classical assumption tests, partial tests, simultaneous tests, multiple linear regression, and coefficient of determination. The findings show that all instruments were valid and reliable, the residuals were normally distributed, and there were no symptoms of multicollinearity, heteroscedasticity, or autocorrelation. Partially, the health sector had a significant effect with a significance value of 0.000, the education sector had a significant effect with a significance value of 0.004, and the economic sector had a significant effect with a significance value of 0.018. Simultaneously, the three variables had a significant effect with an F value of 97.043 and a significance value of 0.000. The R Square value of 0.758 indicates that 75.8 percent of the variation in poverty reduction can be explained by the three variables. These findings confirm that conditional social assistance functions not only as a consumption buffer, but also as an instrument for behavioral change, improved access to basic services, and strengthening the economic capacity of poor households.
