Abstract

Personal pronouns are among the simplest grammatical features of the English language; however, learners still struggle translating this language unit from Ilokano to English. This study thus examined the structure, meanings, and usage of personal pronouns in both Ilokano and English languages as well as the contrastive structure in these two languages. This study employed a qualitative research design using contrastive analysis. The data used was from a qualified informant who confirmed the categorization of personal pronouns obtained from credible sources. Results showed that the two languages vary in terms of function, form and distribution depending on their social and linguistic environment. Their use of the personal pronouns also indicates a difference in the formality of language where Ilokano uses plural form in a formal conversation while the English language remains definite despite its formality. This result implies a contribution in the development of contextualized linguistic materials for Ilokano personal pronouns.

Abstract

RESEARCH STATEMENT: This article illustrates the complexities of translating words with Arabic etymology from Uzbek into English in the process of communication. It explores the importance of accurate and careful translation of religious terms in order to facilitate the task of translators and second language learners and deal more efficiently with the challenging language aspects of specific words and expressions. It aims also to assess the difficulties and challenges of translating Arabic Islamic words into English focusing on context and meaning of words in English language. A great number of words from Arabic language remained in Uzbek language as a legacy of the Arab conquest of Central Asia in the early 4 BC. These words present unique challenges as they have deep meanings and often times result in phrases or sentences to literally translate their definition. Therefore, the speakers of Uzbek and Tajik languages may easily understand the translation whereas, the speakers of English language may have difficulties in figuring out what exactly the words mean and in which context. Finally, the students of the English language face certain complexities translating Uzbek words into English or vice-versa while understanding their meaning and trying to at least provide accurate description of their meanings.

Abstract

Diversity and inclusion are crucial to corporate success in the worldwide workplace. However, more diversity may lead to interpersonal problems, misunderstanding, and workplace stress, which can lead to job burnout and worse employee well-being. This research examines how emotional intelligence (EI) and resilience might help people overcome these problems. According to Social Cognitive Theory, resilient people can better comprehend, react to, and learn from workplace social signals and stresses. We also examine how executive capabilities including working memory, cognitive flexibility, and inhibitory control affect EL and resilience strategies. Through a thorough assessment of hedonic and eudaimonic well-being studies, we emphasize the relevance of developing both to improve employee life satisfaction and performance. This research also discusses how EI and resilience may be used to negotiate social influence phenomena like compliance and conformity to foster good social connections and lessen peer pressure. To address methodological problems, we explore possible biases in this study and suggest ways to mitigate them. We also use mediation analysis to investigate the intricate linkages between EI, resilience, workplace diversity, and employee well-being. We acknowledge missing data in social science research and provide practical advice on how to manage it for strong and credible research outcomes. This study seeks to explain how El and resilience may be used to create a happy, inclusive, and successful workplace by linking psychological research disciplines.
