Abstract

The rapid advancement of digital technology has transformed the pattern of Islamic da'wah communication from conventional face-to-face interactions into digital media-based communication. Among various social media platforms, TikTok has emerged as a strategic medium for disseminating Islamic messages due to its algorithm-driven content distribution and high user engagement, particularly among Generation Z. Previous studies have predominantly examined digital da'wah through YouTube and Instagram, while research focusing on TikTok from the perspective of the da'wah communication system remains limited. Therefore, this study aims to analyse the da'wah communication system on TikTok by examining the interaction between communicators (da'i), messages (risalah), media, audiences (mad'u), and communication effects. This research employs a qualitative descriptive approach using content analysis. Data were collected from literature studies and observations of da'wah content distributed on TikTok, and subsequently analysed through data reduction, categorisation, interpretation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that TikTok has created a new model of da'wah communication characterised by concise, visually engaging messages, active audience participation, and algorithm-driven dissemination through the For You Page (FYP) feature. The effectiveness of digital da'wah is influenced not only by the quality of religious messages but also by the da'i's ability to adapt content to the platform's communication culture. However, the study also identifies challenges, including superficial message delivery, the spread of religious misinformation, and the need for stronger digital literacy among both da'i and audiences. This study contributes to the development of Islamic communication studies by offering a systemic perspective on TikTok-based da'wah communication, emphasising the interconnected roles of communicators, media algorithms, audiences, and communication effects in the contemporary digital ecosystem.

Abstract

This study examines how local digital media construct the reality of the Medan City flood disaster and how such constructions differ across media outlets. Although disaster framing has been widely studied, comparative research on local digital media covering the same urban disaster remains limited in the Indonesian context. This study comparatively analyzes how Waspada.co.id and SUMUTPOS.CO construct the problems, causes, responsible actors, and responses to the Medan City flood disaster. A qualitative approach was employed using Robert N. Entman’s framing model, which consists of four dimensions: define problems, diagnose causes, make moral judgment, and treatment recommendation. The dataset comprised 21 news articles published during November–December 2025, including 10 articles from Waspada.co.id and 11 from SUMUTPOS.CO. Data were collected through documentation and analyzed using systematic coding, interpretation, and comparative analysis. The findings indicate that both media constructed flooding as a serious social problem affecting community life but developed different dominant frames. Waspada.co.id predominantly employed a Human Interest Frame by emphasizing victims’ experiences, social impacts, and community conditions, positioning affected communities as the central actors in its news narratives. Meanwhile, SUMUTPOS.CO predominantly employed a Responsibility Frame by emphasizing government policies, institutional responses, disaster mitigation, and post-disaster recovery, positioning government institutions as the primary actors responsible for addressing the disaster. These differences demonstrate that the same disaster can be constructed through distinct interpretive orientations: a victim-centered humanitarian orientation and an institution-centered responsibility orientation. The study contributes to disaster communication research by showing how actor prominence and problem attribution shape different constructions of the same urban disaster. Practically, the findings emphasize the importance of balanced disaster reporting that addresses immediate impacts alongside structural causes, institutional responsibility, and long-term mitigation.

Abstract

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental illness that affects around 1 in 100 persons and causes significant challenges for children and their families. “Often, caregivers experience psychological distress, financial hardship, social isolation and increased parenting stress. Though behavioural and educational treatments have progressed significantly, there has been little focus paid to the integration of technology-assisted interventions with social work practice for the delivery of comprehensive caregiver support. This conceptual review will be limited to the Kerala context and will evaluate current research on caregiver stress, family-centred social work techniques and novel technology-assisted treatments for families of children with ASD. A conceptual scoping examination of existing peer-reviewed research was undertaken to gather data on caregiver experiences, assistive technologies, digital health therapies, robotics, artificial intelligence, wearable monitoring devices, and family support approaches. The research shows that needs of caregivers are complicated and need integrated community-based technical, social and psychological support. The existing methodologies are still fragmented, with little research offering culturally relevant frameworks and integrating professional social work interventions with technology-assisted care. In response, this study presents the Holistic Support Framework (HSF), a conceptual model that encompasses community support, technology-supported care, social work practice, collaborative co-parenting, and detailed family assessment. This paradigm provides a basis for future empirical testing and practical recommendations for academics, practitioners and policy makers working to increase caregiver well-being and family resilience in autism care
