Abstract

This research aims to identify accessibility facilities in the permanent exhibition space of diorama 1, diorama 2, diorama 3, and diorama 4 of the Yogyakarta Vredeburg Fort Museum for visitors with physical disabilities and visual impairments. The research method used in this research is descriptive qualitative research methods involving visitors with physical disabilities and sensory impairments who have visited the permanent diorama exhibition room, staff at the Fort Vredeburg Yogyakarta Museum, as well as teachers and art activists in the context of people with disabilities in Yogyakarta. The theoretical approach used in this research is the theory of museums, exhibition spaces, accessibility, people with disabilities, as well as human rights and social inclusion. The research results show that the accessibility facilities in the museum exhibition room meet the standards in the form of the availability of automatic doors, corridors, manuvering areas, rams and guide tiles. However, accessibility facilities do not fully accommodate people with physical disabilities who are physically impaired and who are visually impaired due to the lack of adequate rams with handrails, audio descriptions, braille text and tactile objects. This research suggests that museums can improve accessibility facilities that are not yet available to increase comfort and convenience regarding the narrative they want to convey through the collection layout and information labels presented in accordance with inclusive building design standard regulations for visitors with physical disabilities and sensory impairments when visiting the space. permanent display of dioramas at the Fort Vredeburg Museum in Yogyakarta.

Abstract

The rapid development of the creative economy in Indonesia has fostered the emergence of diverse cultural practices that integrate both aesthetic expression and economic potential. Among these, festivals have become strategic arenas for showcasing creative works while simultaneously generating cultural and commercial value. One notable example is Kustomfest, an annual custom automotive festival held in Yogyakarta, which functions not only as an exhibition space but also as a vital node within the local and regional creative economy ecosystem. This study aims to examine the curatorial strategies employed in Kustomfest 2024 and to assess their contribution to value creation in the creative economy sector. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis involving festival curators, creative practitioners, local business actors, and audiences. The findings reveal that curatorial practices in Kustomfest encompass rigorous selection based on originality, a scrutineering process that ensures functionality and safety, professional documentation for archival and promotional purposes, and independent judging guided by international standards. Furthermore, curators are instrumental in shaping narrative frameworks, enhancing visitor engagement, and connecting creators with market opportunities. Beyond artistic curation, Kustomfest generates significant economic impact, particularly in supporting the growth of MSMEs in the surrounding area. This case illustrates how curatorship can serve as a multidimensional tool for cultural production, audience development, and sustainable economic advancement within Indonesia’s creative industries.

Abstract

This paper examines the masterplan planning of Maa Ledungga Rice Harvest Art Festival in South Huntu Village, Bone Bolango Regency, Gorontalo. This festival is a response to modernization and land use change that threatens local agrarian traditions. Through revitalization by the Huntu Art District community, the festival functions as a harvest gratitude ritual and a space for cultural expression and strengthening of community identity. The research used literature study, participatory observation, and narrative analysis to understand the role of cultural narratives and community participation as a strategy of social resistance and culture-based creative economic development. The results show that the festival strengthens social solidarity, builds networks between farmers, artists, MSMEs and youth, and creates new economic opportunities. The festival is also a model of cultural heritage management that is relevant to contemporary needs and strengthens food security and green open spaces through the creative economy. The findings contribute to the study of culture-based creative economy and recommendations for the government and creative industry players in cultural preservation and sustainable local economic development.

Abstract

The development of the creative economy based on silver craft at Silver Studio 76 in Kotagede, Yogyakarta, is carried out through the Experience Economy approach as a strategy for preserving local culture. The focus includes the implementation of the four dimensions of Experience Economy, which is: entertainment, education, aesthetic, and escapism in customer service, as well as the studio's role in supporting silver craft preservation. A qualitative case study method is employed to gain an in-depth understanding through interviews, observations, and secondary data analysis from social media and related documentation. This approach not only enhances the economic value of the products but also strengthens visitors emotional attachment and appreciation of Kotagede's cultural heritage. Challenges such as declining interest among younger generations, fluctuating tourist visits, limited skilled human resources, and rising production costs require ongoing innovation and optimization of digital marketing strategies. The findings contribute both conceptually and practically to developing experience based business models that sustain traditional craft industries while reinforcing local cultural preservation.

Abstract

Participatory art has grown significantly as a response to the sense of alienation experienced by society within contemporary art practices. In Indonesia, this phenomenon emerges in various forms, one of which is the Wayang Kardus workshop initiated by the art collective Taring Padi. This research aims to analyze the management of the Wayang Kardus workshop through the perspective of participatory art as developed by Pablo Helguera (socially engaged art). A qualitative descriptive approach is employed to explore the dynamics of the workshop’s management, focusing on Helguera’s six principles: collaboration, transpedagogy, performativity, documentation, deskilling, and social situations. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and documentation studies. The findings indicate that Taring Padi’s management practices reflect all six of Helguera’s principles within the Indonesian local context. Collaboration is manifested through collective work and equitable role distribution; transpedagogy is evident in the reciprocal learning process between facilitators and participants; performativity is realized through creative actions in public spaces; documentation functions as a form of critical archive; deskilling enables the inclusion of non-artist participants; and social situations encourage art practices that are contextually grounded and relevant to community conditions. In conclusion, the management of Taring Padi’s Wayang Kardus workshop represents an art practice rooted in social engagement, emphasizing equitable power distribution, sensitivity to community contexts, and the sustainability of relationships between artists and participants.

Abstract

Comedian is a profession that has been recognized since the 18th century. Although the comedian profession has been recognized, formal education or training to become a humanist and competent comedian is still very rarely carried out. “Pecahkan” is a stand-up comedy educational institution that consistently organizes training to become a solo comedian. The success of the "Palecah" institution in providing training, of course, is supported by the right learning techniques and strategies. An effective and efficient comedy education model will play an important role in producing comedians who are ethical, competent, and ready to enter the industrial world. Structured education for prospective comedians is highly necessary, considering the numerous cases of legal actions against comedians who are deemed to have offended and demeaned certain parties. This research was conducted to map the comedy education techniques and strategies carried out by “Pecahkan”. The mapping of stand-up comedian learning techniques and strategies is expected to be able to make an important contribution to the study of human resource management, especially stand-up comedy. The method used in this study is observation, especially participatory observation. Observations were made by participating in “Tipis-Tipis Rispek #4” training, organized by the "Pecahkan" Institute. The results of this study show the effectiveness of the hybrid learning model in the comedian education process, as well as the importance of comedy learning strategies through the comedy stage laboratory.

Abstract

Affandi Koesoema is one of the most internationally renowned Indonesian painters because of his typical expressionist and romantic style. His legendary works are still stored in his private museum, designed  with Affandi's design and construction. The building was not originally designed as a museum by Affandi, so in practice, many adjustments were made to the conditional arrangements. Indonesia's tropical climate with relatively high humidity and temperatures requires museum managers to adapt to fluctuating air temperatures. Efforts to preserve the work of Affandi paintings have been made to maintain the sustainability of Indonesian painting art. One of the considerations that should also be given attention is regarding technical aspects, including the engineering of the museum environment, that can be done to protect the invaluable art and cultural assets. Temperature control and room humidity are very important in museums and art galleries; if the room is too hot or cold, too humid or dry, it will affect the quality of the painting. This research aims to find out how environmental engineering is done at the museum to preserve the masterpiece of Affandi's painting art. The aspects of thermal comfort and humidity were one of the considerations in  analyzing this study, given the tropical climate conditions that also affected art conservation activities.

Abstract

Indonesia will become one of the countries experiencing demographic aging, and the percentage of people over 65 years old will continue to increase every year. Yogyakarta is known as a province with a higher elderly population than the national average. The Yogyakarta City Government has an integrated service program for the elderly at the sub-district level to create an elderly-friendly city. This study aims to provide design innovation through an inclusive design approach by analyzing the spatial pattern of elderly-friendly villages. This study will take a case study of the implementation of the Integrated Elderly Service program in Wirogunan sub-district as a pilot project, specifically in Bintaran village. From the results of this study, several recommendations can be put forward, one of which is the need for a green open space management program in the Bintaran village environment. This can be a more environmentally friendly solution by involving all elements of society, from young to old, working together to create elderly-friendly public facilities.
