Abstract

High-risk pregnancy remains one of the major contributors to maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality. Early detection through comprehensive antenatal care (ANC) services is essential to prevent pregnancy complications. One of the integrated antenatal service standards implemented in Indonesia is the 14T antenatal examination, which includes physical assessment, laboratory examination, preventive interventions, and health education for pregnant women. This community engagement activity aimed to detect high-risk pregnancies early through the implementation of the 14T antenatal examination and to improve pregnant women’s knowledge regarding the importance of routine antenatal care. The activity was conducted in February 2023 at the North Ponorogo Health Center involving 15 pregnant women who attended antenatal visits. The implementation consisted of pregnancy examinations based on the 14T standard and health education regarding pregnancy care and danger signs during pregnancy. Knowledge assessment was conducted using a questionnaire before and after the educational intervention. The results showed that most pregnant women had normal pregnancy conditions; however, several risk factors were identified, including low hemoglobin levels, elevated blood pressure, and poor nutritional status based on mid-upper arm circumference measurements. Evaluation results indicated an increase in pregnant women’s knowledge after the education session. The proportion of participants with good knowledge increased from 20% before education to 73.3% after education. These findings indicate that the 14T antenatal care examination combined with health education effectively supports early detection of high-risk pregnancies and improves pregnant women’s awareness regarding the importance of routine antenatal care to maintain maternal and fetal health.

Abstract

Drowning is an emergency that is a major cause of unintentional death, especially in children and communities living in water areas. The community's lack of knowledge and skills in recognizing risks and providing first aid in drowning incidents contributes to high morbidity and mortality rates. Drowning emergency education is an important promotive and preventive effort to increase community preparedness in facing such emergencies. This Community Service Program aims to assist the community in the Sumber Jiput water tourism area in practicing handling and providing first aid to drowning victims. The method used is by providing Health Education on handling and providing first aid to drowning victims. This Community Service Program was carried out at the Sumber Jiput water tourism area on Sunday, January 25, 2026, for 32 teenagers and Pokdarwis who are members of the community in the Sumber Jiput water area. After being provided with education on handling bleeding and first aid to drowning victims, an evaluation was conducted by asking questions to the participants. Increased knowledge was known when they were able to answer questions after the counseling activity. They are able to correctly describe drowning situations and the steps to take when encountering a drowning victim, as well as how to call for help. Furthermore, they can generally practice the steps in administering first aid to a drowning victim.

Abstract

Maternal and child health problems remain a major public health concern, particularly in developing countries, where maternal complications, suboptimal breastfeeding practices, and unrecognized maternal mental health issues contribute to adverse outcomes. This study highlights the novelty of an integrated community-based maternal health promotion approach that combines physical health education, practical skill development, and maternal mental health components. This community service aimed to improve knowledge of pregnancy danger signs, exclusive breastfeeding practices, and maternal mental health in Rejomulyo Village, Kediri. This study employed a community-based participatory approach using a pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design involving 52 participants, including pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and family members. The intervention included health education, interactive discussions, demonstrations of breastfeeding techniques, and maternal mental health assessment using the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS). Data were collected through pre–post assessments and analyzed using descriptive and comparative approaches. The results showed a significant improvement in participants’ knowledge. Knowledge of pregnancy danger signs increased from 45.0% to 85.0%, understanding of early detection from 40.0% to 80.0%, knowledge of exclusive breastfeeding from 50.0% to 88.0%, and understanding of breastfeeding techniques from 42.0% to 82.0%. In addition, maternal mental health assessment showed an improvement in participants’ psychological condition, as indicated by a decrease in mean EPDS scores from 10.2 ± 3.1 to 6.8 ± 2.7, along with a reduction in the proportion of participants at risk of depressive symptoms from 46.2% to 21.1% after the intervention. In conclusion, the integrated approach combining health education, practical skills, and maternal mental health components is effective in improving maternal knowledge and engagement. This model offers a comprehensive and scalable strategy for enhancing maternal and child health outcomes in community settings.

Abstract

The School Health Unit (UKS) is a cross-sectoral initiative aimed at improving students’ health knowledge, fostering healthy behaviors, and enhancing physical, mental, and social well-being among school-age children. The role of UKS cadres is essential in ensuring the effective implementation of school health programs. One of the major health challenges faced by adolescents today is reproductive health problems, particularly dysmenorrhea. According to the World Health Organization (WHO, 2020), approximately 90% of adolescent girls experience dysmenorrhea. Simple non-pharmacological methods, such as acupressure and self-suggestion, can be applied to reduce menstrual pain. This training program was designed to improve the knowledge and practical skills of UKS cadres in managing dysmenorrhea, enabling them to educate and support their peers. The training methods included lectures, demonstrations, and problem-solving sessions. The activity was conducted on May 4, 2024, and involved 40 UKS officers and one supervisor. The results showed a significant improvement in participants’ knowledge and skills about acupressure and self-suggestion in overcoming dysmenorrhea. Posttest findings indicated that 77.5% of participants had good knowledge of dysmenorrhea management, 70% were able to correctly perform self-suggestion techniques, and 95% successfully demonstrated acupressure practices. In contrast, pretest results revealed that all participants (100%) had no prior knowledge of these techniques. Overall, the training effectively enhanced both cognitive understanding and practical skills of UKS cadres in managing dysmenorrhea, highlighting the importance of integrating complementary therapies into school-based health programs.
