Abstract

This study investigates the determinants of unemployment in six ASEAN countries—Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam—during the 2010–2023 period, focusing on the roles of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), Human Development Index (HDI), Gross Domestic Product (GDP), Consumer Price Index (CPI), and the Covid-19 pandemic. Using panel data analysis with a fixed effects model, the results show that FDI has no significant impact on unemployment, while HDI unexpectedly has a positive correlation. GDP significantly reduces unemployment, confirming the role of economic growth in absorbing labor. CPI, contrary to conventional theory, also significantly lowers unemployment. The Covid-19 pandemic, however, significantly increases unemployment across the region. These findings highlight the complex interplay between macroeconomic indicators and labor markets in ASEAN6 and suggest the need for targeted policy responses that address structural vulnerabilities and enhance labor market resilience.

Abstract

The growth of the financing sector in Indonesia has shown a significant increase, driven by the community's need for financial access for productive consumption and investment. Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) through its Griya Hasanah product seeks to meet the need for home ownership with sharia principles. This study uses a qualitative descriptive case study approach, with data obtained from observations and interviews at BSI KCP Pekanbaru Arifin Ahmad. The results of the study indicate that digitalization and changes in consumer behavior affect customer expectations for fast, transparent, and flexible financing services. BSI faces challenges from fintech and digital banks that offer innovative services and competitive costs. Therefore, a more personalized and effective digital-based marketing strategy is needed, as well as the use of big data and artificial intelligence to improve customer experience. In addition, analysis and innovation in the Griya Hasanah product must consider sharia principles and market needs. Recommendations for BSI include the development of a profit and loss sharing financing model to increase competitiveness and provide added value to customers. This study provides insight into the dynamics and challenges in developing sharia financing products in the digital era.

Abstract

Food sector inflation significantly impacts economic stability and social welfare, particularly in Banjarmasin City, which heavily relies on external food supplies. Rising food prices directly reduce purchasing power, widen economic inequality, and increase the risk of social instability. This study aims to analyze the factors driving food inflation, evaluate inflation trends over the past five years, and assess the effectiveness of price control policies implemented. Data were obtained from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), Bank Indonesia, and local government policy documents, analyzed using a mixed-methods approach that combines quantitative and qualitative analyses to understand inflation patterns and policy effectiveness. The findings reveal that internal factors such as limited local food production, distribution inefficiencies, and dependency on external supplies largely contribute to price fluctuations. Meanwhile, external factors including disruptions in global supply chains, commodity price volatility, and import policy uncertainties further exacerbate inflationary pressures. Programs such as subsidized market operations, interregional cooperation, development of distribution infrastructure, and price transparency initiatives have been implemented; however, challenges remain regarding supply sustainability and distribution efficiency. Therefore, this study recommends strengthening logistics infrastructure, optimizing supply chains, diversifying local food production, and utilizing agricultural technology to improve productivity and cost efficiency. A sustainability-oriented strategy is expected to maintain food price stability, enhance community welfare, and support regional economic growth.

Abstract

The tourism industry is experiencing a transformative shift as the demand for sustainable practices increases, driven significantly by Generation Z. Born between the mid-1990s and early 2010s, Generation Z is characterized by their digital savviness, social awareness, and environmental consciousness. This systematic literature review (SLR) explores the travel motivations and sustainable tourism practices of Generation Z, synthesizing findings from studies published between 2018 and 2024. Our analysis reveals that Generation Z values personalized and unique travel experiences, cultural immersion, and natural attractions, heavily influenced by social media platforms and digital tools. Despite their strong preference for eco-friendly travel options, there is a notable gap between their environmental attitudes and actual sustainable behaviors. Cross-cultural differences also significantly shape sustainable tourism preferences within Generation Z. This study underscores the need for targeted educational and marketing strategies to bridge this gap and highlights the importance of integrating advanced digital technologies in tourism strategies. The findings provide valuable insights for tourism stakeholders to develop tailored marketing campaigns, sustainable tourism products, and policies that align with Generation Z's values, contributing to the broader academic discourse on sustainable tourism.

Abstract

This study aims to map the estimated purchasing power of residents across 52 sub-districts in Banjarmasin City and to analyze the visual relationship between purchasing power and the distribution of retail markets. The data used include the 2017 Per Capita Monthly Consumption Expenditure from BPS and the 2018 PODES data, with the proportion of households in slum settlements and health subsidy recipients serving as proxies, which were processed into a Composite Welfare Index. The analysis reveals a significant disparity in purchasing power, ranging from IDR 1,030,976 to IDR 1,818,254 per capita. Sub-districts in the southern part of Banjarmasin generally exhibit the lowest purchasing power, while the northern and central areas are above the city average. Traditional markets are concentrated in the city center, whereas minimarkets are evenly distributed, primarily following areas with high purchasing power. These findings underscore the importance of spatial mapping-based policies to reduce economic disparities and optimize the distribution of retail services in urban areas.

Abstract

This study aims to measure community welfare at the district/city level in South Sulawesi Province using a binary logistic regression model approach. The research employs a quantitative method. The dependent variable is community welfare, measured by the Human Development Index (HDI), which is categorized into two groups (HDI < 71 and HDI ≥ 71). The independent variables include access to improved sanitation (SL), economic growth (PE), poverty (POV), and the open unemployment rate (TPT). The data used are secondary data obtained from the latest publications by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS). The analysis model used is binary logistic regression with the Maximum Likelihood Estimation (MLE) method. The results show that improved sanitation (SL) has a positive and significant effect on community welfare, economic growth (PE) has a significant negative effect, and the open unemployment rate (TPT) has a significant positive effect, while poverty (POV) does not have a significant effect on community welfare. These findings highlight the importance of strengthening basic infrastructure such as sanitation, transforming economic growth policies to be more inclusive, and creating productive employment opportunities in order to improve community welfare at the local level.
