Abstract

ABSTRACT Peripheral neuropathy is disorder in the edge or periphery of nerve which can cause symptoms such as the feeling of inflammation, cold pain, electric shock, prickling sensation in a part of the body, pain as if pierced by needles, numb, and itchy. One of the causes of peripheral neuropathy is the shaking from the seats and steering wheels. Not only will the work comfort and fatigue of workers who are exposed to this shaking be disturbed but they can also be detrimental to peripheral neuropathic. The research was an analytic survey with cross sectional design. The data were analyzed by using univatriate analysis and bivatriate analysis with chi square test. The population was 40 drivers of urban transportation line 95 in Medan, and all of them were used as the samples, using total sampling technique. The result of the research showed that the variable of work period was p > 0.05 which indicated that there was no correlation between the length of service and the incidence of peripheral neuropathic in the respondents, in 2015. The variable of the length of service was p < 0.05 which indicated that there was the correlation between the length of service and the incidence of peripheral neuropathic in the respondents, in 2015. The shaking measurement of the drivers’ seats was 118.64 µm and of the drivers’ steering wheels was 87.065 µm. According to the Decree of the Minister of State for Environment No. 49/1996, this shaking could arouse uncomfortable reaction to workers. Peripheral neuropathic can disturb one’s quality of life and work comfort. The best way to solve it is by controlling the shaking by changing the thin out seat cushions to the thicker ones, using shock absorber devices and standard suspension in order to lessen the buses’ shaking mechanism and to keep the machines in good condition.

Abstract

ABSTRACT All the work has been helped by tools that can facilitate the work of man, for example the engine, but can make a considerable profit, but also cause losses due  could be damaged and cause accidents. Accident prevention can be done by analyzing any existing hazards in the working environment. One method is to conduct a hazard analysis Hazard and Operability Study (HAZOPS). HAZOPS is a method of identifying and analyzing the danger of a process unit when deviating from it should be. This research is a descriptive survey that describes the results of hazard identification and analysis using method HAZOPS in a work process. The object under study is contained in the workshop processes ie loading / unloading, disassembly, machine repair, engine repair, washing, and painting at the PT. X 2015. These results indicate that the hazards are in the process of loading / unloading is working at height and straps are not unstable. In the process there is the danger of slippery floor disassembly, the strap is not stable, less control of cranes and forklifts. In the process there is the danger of the machine repair welding and tapping. In the process there is the danger of engine repair and unsafe ways of working as well as working at height. In the process of washing the danger of contact with diesel and slippery floors. In the painting process are inhaled paint and fire hazards. Researcher suggests to the management of PT. X to keep increasing the work safety and healthy by controlling various hazard in each process at workshop.

Abstract

ABSTRACT  Belawan waters have been contaminated with heavy metals such as lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), and mercury (Hg). Belawan sources of marine pollution caused by industrial waste results. Mercury (Hg) is the most toxic heavy metals that are harmful to health. Water biota that live in the waters of Belawan will accumulate the metal in the body tissue through the food chain. In fact, fish and shellfish is a popular seafood Indonesian society. This research aims to study if there is or not the different of the declining of mercury content to the fish in market of KUD Gabion Belawan and the variation of concentration and submersion on citric. This research is Quasi Experiment study with complete random sampling with two factors, i.e. the first factor is variation of concentration and the second one is variation of duration of submersion. This research was conducted on March up to May 2015. The population in this research is tuna fish that sold in KUD Gabion Belawan from the sea of Belawan and the sample in this research is tuna fish with weight 1,2 kg. The data was analyzed by statistical test Friedman. The results showed that decreased levels of mercury (Hg) in the of concentration of 0%, 25%, 50%, and 75% for 5 minutes at 0.875 ppm, 0.0786 ppm, 0.0725 ppm and 0.0584 ppm, while the concentration 0 %, 25%, 50%, and 75% for 10 minutes at 0.0869 ppm, 0.0624 ppm, 0.0587 ppm and 0.0336 ppm. The results of test Friedman showed that the difference of the four concentration (0%, 25%, 50%, 75%) of citric to the declining of content of mercury (Hg) (p<0.001) and the duration of submersion (5 minutes and 10 minutes) (p= 0.001) of the citric to the declining of mercury content (Hg.) The public are advised to soaked with lime solution concentration 75 % for 10 minutes before cooking to declining of mercury (Hg) in tuna. Government should control Belawan waters pollution water biota such as fish for consumption by the public, by advanced research needs to be done with an acid solution such as vinegar, tamarind the levels to declining heavy metal o such as lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd).
