Abstract

The objective of this research was to know effect of paclobutrazol to the number of chlorophyl,flowering time, and harvesting time of two sorghum varieties. This research was conducted inexperimental field at Jl. Pasar I Tanjung Sari, Medan from October 2013-January 2014,used randomized block design with two factors paclobutrazol concentration (0 g/l, 0,50 g/l,0,75 g/l, and 1 g/l) and varieties (Kawali and Numbu). Parameters measured were the number ofchlorophyl, flowering time, and harvesting time. The result showed that paclobutrazol affectedsignificantly on plant height, stem diameter, and flowering time. Varieties have significant differenton the number of chlorophyl, flowering time, and harvesting time.The interaction of the two factorsnot affected significantly on all parameters. There was no interaction between paclobutrazolconcentration and varieties to all parameters measured.Keywords: paclobutrazol, variety, sorghum

Abstract

Research on title The Effectivity of Some Entomopathogenic on the Larvae Oryctes rhinoceros L.(Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae) in the Laboratory". The objective of this research was to know theeffectifity of entomopathogenic (Bacillus thuringiensis, Beauveria bassiana, and Metarhiziumanisopliae) with different level of concentration. The research was conducted at the InsectLaboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Sumatera Utara, From July to August 2013, usinga randomized complete design (RAL) non factorial with ten treatments (control, B. thuringiensis 25,50, and 75 g/l, B. bassiana 25,50, and 75 g/l, M. anisopliae 25, 50, and 75 g/l) with threereplications. The results showed that the highest percentage (100%) of mortality larvae in thetreatment B. thuringiensis 75 g/l and the lowest (50,71%) in B. bassiana 25 g/L. The highestpercentage (100%) of larvae infected with entomopathogenic in treatment B.thuringiensis 75 g/l, B.bassiana 75 g/l, M. anisopliae 75 g/l , and the lowest (72,93%) in treatment B. bassiana 25 g/L. Thedeath behavior of larvae O. rhinoceros infected entomopathogenic characterized by the larvaebecome slow, decreased of appetite, and have a different colors.Key Words: Oryctes rhinoceros, entomopathogenic, mortality

Abstract

The demand for land growing up synergy with population growth become one of the driving factorsof land use change. Dairi regency is one of regencies in North Sumatra with an area of 192.780hectares that most of the land not used and not optimized by the resident in order to meet thedemand for land. This study was conducted on July 2013 through March 2014 using the surveymethod with the use of GPS equipment and Landsat TM 7. The results showed that land coverconditions that primary forest, secondary forest, cultivated land, residential and open land hasincreased while the paddy fields, wet land decreased. This is due to the social conditions of thepopulation, and an increasing number of residents in the area which led to the demand of land forsettlement and cultivation of the land will continue to rise.Keywords : land cover , land use , Dairi Regency and driving factor land changes

Abstract

Research Survey of integrated pest management fruit flyBactroceraspp on cytrus in threesubdistrict’s of Karo’s regency.The aim of this research was to find out relation between integratedpest management with the number of fruit flies imago, damage percentage and production of orangein three Karo regency. This research had been conducted at farmer field Simpang Empat, BarusJahe dan Tiga Panah, Kabupaten Karo pada May - September 2013 using survey method bycorrelation quantitative analyze rank Spearman. The result showed that the number of orange fruitflies had a significant corelation with damage percentage of fruit flies (rxy= 0,733), and integrated pestmanagement was not have the significant corelation with damage percentage (rx1y= 0,256) but had asignificant corelation with production of cytrus in Karo (rx1y1= 0,464). The highest number ofBactrocera spp imago were showed in Tiga Panah with 71,07 imago number and the lowest wereshowed in Barus Jahe with 23,76 imago number. The highest damage percentage were inTiga Panah 14,27% and the lowest damage percentage were in Barus Jahe 5,89%. The best orangeproduction were in Barus Jahe with 14,05 ton/ha/year, and the lowest production were inTiga Panah with 10,05ton/ha/year.Keywords: Cytrus, Bactrocera spp dan IPM.

Abstract

The objectives of this research was to produce the large seed size of several black soybean varietiesselected based on seed size. The research was conducted on Pasar 1 Tanjung Sari, District MedanSelayang, Medan with a height of ± 25 meter above sea levelon. It was started on Februari until Mei2013 by using Split Plot Design of Two Factors which are varieties and seed size with 4replications. Varieties was researched are Detam1, Detam2, Cikuray and Mallika. The seed sizewas researched are large seed size and small seed size. The result showed that Mallika varietiesshowed the best growth on plant height (34,85 cm) and number of branches on main branches (4,33branches ). The highest production is Detam1 (32,65 g) in production per plant parameter. Theplants from the large seed size showed the best growth on plant height (31,91 cm) and number ofbranches (3,88 branches). The plants from the small seed size produced more medium seed sizewith range 41.92 % - 58.88 %. The plants from the large seed size produced more medium seed sizewith range 41.07 % - 51.55 % except on Detam 2 which from the large seed size produced morelarge seed size. Interaction between varieties and seed size that showed the best growth is oninteraction between Detam 2 varieties with large seed size (V2U2) on plant height parameter (20,35cm). interaction between Detam 1 with small seed size (V1U1) showed the best productioncompare with the others on production per plot (535 g).Key words : black soybean, varieties, seed size

Abstract

This research aims to know the difference of level of C-Organic, N and P in Humitropepts atdifferent altitudes in sub-district of Lintong Nihuta. The study done in sub-district of LintongNihuta at altitudes of 1300 to > 1500 meters above sea level in September – November 2013. Theresults showed that the C-Organic and N-total of Humitropepts sub-district of Lintong Nihuta tendto rise along with the added altitude and tend to decrease when increasing the depth of the soil. Incontrast, P-available tends to decreases with increasing altitude and the moment we get tend toincrease the depth of the soil.Key words: c-organic, nitrogen, phosphate, humitropepts, altitude.

Abstract

Goosegrass (Eleusine indica) is one of weeds that had negative effect which is commonly found incorn field. In the past few years the existence of this weed in the area of BBI Tanjung Selamat hasbeen reported that population was difficult to control with paraquat. This research aims to determinethe dose response of the suspicioned resistant population to paraquat, glyphosate, and ammoniumglufosinate. The levels of paraquat applied were 0, 50, 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600 g a.i. ha-1;glyphosate at 0, 60, 120, 240, 480, 960,1920 g a.i. ha-1 and ammonium glufosinate at 0, 55, 110,220, 440, 880, 1760 g a.i. ha-1. The treatments were arranged in randomised block design (RBD)and each treatment was made in three repetition. The results showed that the paraquat-resistantpopulation from area of BBI still survived as much of 11,67% at the rate of 400 g a.i ha-1.Meanwhile, glyphosate and ammonium glufosinate controlled satisfactorily this population.Keywords: Paraquat, Glyphosate, Ammonium Glufosinate, Eleusine indica, Resistance

Abstract

The objective of this research was to studythe abundance and diversity of insects on corn hybrid andtransgenic variety. It was conducted at Balai Benih Induk Tanaman Palawija Tanjung Selamat landarea dan Pest Laboratory, Facultyof Agriculture, University of North Sumatra, Medan started onMarch 2013 until Juli 2013. This research used 3 kinds of insect traps (Sweep Net, PitfallTrap,Yellow Sticky Trap), and six study replications. The first treatment varieties planted PRG NKC7-603 are sprayed with Glyphosate, the second treatment varieties PRG NK C7-603 are weededmanually, the third treatments varieties C7 were weeded manually, and the fourth treatmentvarieties DK979 were weeded manually.The result showed that insect caughthas consisting of 9Ordo and 49families. The highest relative density values on PRG C7 NK-603 (application ofglyphosate) was 16,5 % and the lowest was 0,136 %. The highest relative density values on PRGC7 NK-603 was 16,16 % and the lowest was 0,116 %. The highest relative density values on C7was 17,114 % and the lowest was 0,0781 %. The highest relative density values on DK979 was18,4 % and the lowest was 0,138 %.Shanon-Weiner (H’) index diversity of insect on PRG C7 NK-603 (applicationof glyphosate) was 3,2636, on PRG C7 NK-603 was 3,2407, on C7 was 3,1834,and on DK979was 3,144.All varieties has a high diversity and ecosystem stability.Key words : Diversity, Insect, Corn

Abstract

Objective of this research is studied of mineral substances and sea water effect on physico-chemicalproperties of highland peat. It was conducted at highland peat in Hutabagasan, Dolok SanggulSub – district Humbang Hasundutan Regency, North Sumatera. This research used non – factorialrandomized block design with four treatments those are G0 (Control), G1 (5kgs Volcanic sand), G2(5kgs Volcanic sand + 2,5L Sea water), G3 (5kgs Volcanic sand + 1kg Zeolite + 2,5L Sea water)and 3 replicants. The results showed that application of Volcanic sand (G1) significantly increasingon soil base saturation. Addition of sea water with volcanic sand and volcanic sand + zeolite (G2dan G3) significantly increasing on soil electric conductivity, exchangeable sodium, exchangeablemagnesium but decrease exchangeable calsium, and base saturation. Zeolite has a role as buffer ofsoil pH, soil electric conductivity and bulk dencity. The Application of all ameliorants have notpositive influence on the growth of rice plant and even decrease number of vegetative tillers.Keyword: Volcanic sand, Zeolite, Sea water, Highland Peat soil, Rice.

Abstract

This study aims to study the influence of animal urine and cutting of seed to support the seedlinggermination and growth of biwa. This research was conducted at Experiment Center of Fruit inBerastagi, Karo at April to July 2013. This research applies Randomized block design factorial,first factor: application of animal urine concentration in 25% and 50% by soaking during 15minutes and 30 minutes. Second factor: scarification techniques, P0=without cutting and P1=withcutting. The observation component consist of germination power, germination percentage,germination age, length of plant, number of leaves, leaf total area and root volume. The result ofresearch indicates that the soaking of biwa seed into animal urine and cutting has insignificantinfluence to the acceleration of seedling germination and growth. The treatment of soaking onanimal urine has a significant influence to the accelerate of seedling germination and growth onroot volume, age when germination, number of leave. The seed cutting of biwa has a significantinfluence to the accelerate of seedling germination and growth that indicated by root volume, andpercentage of germination. The best results showed that biwa seed was soaking in 50% cow urineconcentration for 30 minutes.Keywords: Eriobotrya japonica Lindl., germination, seed cutting, animal urine
