Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study aims to describe the forms, meanings, and semiotic functions of language in the traditional wedding discourse of the Flores culture in West Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. Methodology: The research uses a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected through structured interviews and participatory observation, supported by documentation such as photos and field notes. Data analysis was conducted using qualitative descriptive techniques and the referential equivalence method (metode padan referensial). Main Findings: The study identified unique semiotic forms in both linguistic units (words, phrases, sentences, discourse) and non-linguistic elements (symbols, objects, participants) throughout the wedding stages. These elements carry specific cultural meanings and functions, reinforcing social bonds, cultural identity, and communication within the Manggarai Barat community. Novelty/Originality of this study: This research provides a semiotic analysis of Manggarai Barat wedding rituals using Halliday’s sociosemiotic framework, which has not been extensively applied in previous studies on Flores culture. It contributes to the preservation and linguistic documentation of local oral traditions and enriches the study of language-culture correlations in Indonesia.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study aims to systematically identify, describe, and categorize the moral education values ​​contained in the Javanese folktale anthology "Bandha Warisan." The analysis focuses on an in-depth exploration of the implicit and explicit ethical messages in the narrative, as well as its relevance as a source of local wisdom-based teaching materials in the context of character education in Indonesia. Methodology: This research uses descriptive qualitative analysis. Data were collected through careful reading and note-taking techniques from the “Bandha Warisan” anthology. Data validity was ensured through expert judgement (semantic validity) and reliability testing. Main Findings: The analysis identified 31 moral values, systematically categorized into four relational domains: human-God (accepting destiny, prayer, gratitude, repentance) human-others (harmony, mutual aid, respect for parents, cooperation, affection) human-environment (cleanliness, caring for animals); and human-self (honesty, humility, diligence, generosity, keeping promises). These values reflect core Javanese ethical principles such as nrimo, rukun, and andhap asor. Novelty/Originality of this study: This study provides a systematic mapping of moral values from a modern, curated Javanese folktale anthology. It bridges traditional wisdom with contemporary character education, offering a practical reference for educators and parents in using local literature for moral pedagogy. The research highlights the anthology's role as an active instrument for cultural transmission and ethical formation in the modern era.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: In simple words tell to readers about the aim of this study. No discussion, no story only aim of this study [30-50 words] This study aims to analyze the influence of students' learning styles (visual, auditory, and kinesthetic) on their English learning outcomes among fourth-grade students at MIN Bontolangkasa. Methodology: This quantitative correlational research used a learning style questionnaire (30 items) and documentation of English semester test scores. Data from 41 students were analyzed using descriptive statistics and simple linear regression with SPSS Version 22 software. Main Findings: The dominant learning style was visual. However, statistical analysis showed no significant influence of learning styles on English learning outcomes. The average English score was 70.40, and factors such as uniform teaching methods and the local linguistic environment were suspected to moderate the relationship. Novelty/Originality of this study: This study provides empirical evidence from a Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (Islamic elementary school) in a rural Indonesian context, highlighting that learning style theory may not be a primary determinant of achievement when other contextual and pedagogical factors are predominant

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study aims to identify and describe the types and functions of literary elements (unsur susastra) present in the panyandra (narrative speeches) of Surakarta-style Javanese traditional wedding ceremonies. Methodology: This descriptive study analyzed written data from the books Gita Wicara Jawi and Tuntunan Kagem Para Panatacara Tuwin Pamedhar Sabda, along with audio and video recordings of wedding narrations. Data were collected through listening, reading, note-taking, and analyzed using stylistic analysis and semantic validity with expert judgment. Main Findings: The study identified ten types of literary elements used in the panyandra, including tembung saroja, tembung garba, kerata basa, paribasan, pepindhan, candra, purwakanthi, and basa rinengga. These elements serve seven language functions: personal, instrumental, interactional, regulatory, representational, heuristic, and imaginative. Novelty/Originality of this study: This research provides the first detailed analysis of literary elements within Surakarta-style Javanese wedding panyandra, offering new insights into their aesthetic and cultural functions, which can enhance appreciation and serve as a reference for event narrators (pranata adicara) and cultural preservation efforts.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study aims to analyze and describe the form, function, and meaning of incantations (mantra) used in the Suna Ro Ndoso traditional ceremony of the Bima ethnic group in Dompu District, Dompu Regency. Methodology: This qualitative research employed observation, interviews, and transcription methods for data collection. Data analysis was conducted using form analysis, function analysis, and hermeneutic interpretation. Research instruments included an audio recorder (mobile phone), field notes, and a structured interview guide with selected informants. Main Findings: The mantras in the Suna Ro Ndoso ceremony primarily take the form of gurindam (couplets) and free verse. Their functions include serving as prayers (permohonan), expressions of affection (pengasihan), healing (pengobatan), and consciousness-raising (penyadaran). The meanings conveyed are pleas for safety, surrender to God, facilitation of the ritual process, and healing for those believed to be possessed by spirits. Novelty/Originality of this study: This research provides the first specific and detailed documentation and analysis of the mantras within the Suna Ro Ndoso rite of the Bima people in Dompu. It contributes new empirical data to the study of oral literature and local wisdom, offering a deeper understanding of a cultural practice not previously examined in such focused detail.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study aims to inventory, classify, and analyze the cultural lexicon found in the Javanese Siraman wedding ritual performed by the diaspora community in Muara Jaya Village, Rokan Hulu Regency, as well as to describe its semantic and symbolic meanings. Methodology: This research employs a descriptive qualitative method with an ethnolinguistic approach. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews with five purposively sampled key informants (customary leaders, ceremony guides, and bridal makeup artists), and audio-visual documentation of the ritual speech and procedures. Main Findings: The research identified 67 cultural lexicons in the Siraman ritual, classified into eight semantic categories: (1) ritual equipment (12 lexicons), (2) flowers and plants (15 lexicons), (3) water and purification (5 lexicons), (4) actions and procedures (18 lexicons), (5) actors/officiants (8 lexicons), (6) spatial concepts (3 lexicons), (7) time concepts (4 lexicons), and (8) currency/transaction (2 lexicons). Semantic analysis reveals that these lexicons contain philosophical meanings related to fertility, purity, prosperity, harmony, and cosmology. Lexical erosion was found among the younger generation, marked by 60% unfamiliarity with key terms such as dulangan pungkasan, kreweng, and gendhongan. Novelty/Originality of this study: This study is the first to systematically document the ethnolinguistic aspects of the Siraman tradition in a Javanese transmigration community in Sumatra. It contributes to the preservation of endangered Javanese cultural lexicon and offers a model for lexical documentation in diaspora communities.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study aims to develop and validate Flash-based interactive learning media integrated with the K-W-L strategy to enhance eleventh-grade students’ reading comprehension skills and align instructional practices with higher-order cognitive demands reflected in international assessments such as the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS). Methodology: This research employed a Research and Development (R&D) design adapted from the Borg and Gall model. The study involved eleventh-grade students in a public senior high school. Data were collected through expert validation sheets, reading comprehension tests (pre-test and post-test), and student response questionnaires. Data analysis included descriptive percentage analysis and N-Gain calculation. Main Findings: The developed media achieved an average expert validation score of 88.18%, categorized as good and feasible for classroom implementation. The effectiveness test showed a mean N-Gain score of 0.51, indicating moderate improvement in students’ reading comprehension. Significant gains were observed in higher-order indicators, including inference-making, interpretation of implicit meaning, and evaluation of contextual information aligned with TIMSS cognitive demands. Novelty/Originality of this study: This study integrates the K-W-L metacognitive strategy systematically within Flash-based interactive media to support analytical reading skills aligned with international assessment competencies. Unlike prior studies focusing solely on strategy use or media feasibility, this research bridges digital instructional design, structured reading strategy, and global literacy challenges in secondary education.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study aims to examine the cultural representation of pesugihan in the drama script Pesugihan Nayan Tula by Afrion using a literary anthropology approach to reveal embedded cultural values, belief systems, and socio-cultural structures reflected in the narrative Methodology: This study employed a qualitative descriptive method using a literary anthropology approach. The primary data source was the 2016 published drama script by Laboratorium Sastra Medan. Data were collected through documentation techniques and analyzed using cultural category frameworks based on Koentjaraningrat’s anthropological theory and Ratna’s literary anthropology perspective. Main Findings: The findings reveal that pesugihan is represented as a cultural belief system rooted in animism, ritual practices, myth, and social structure. The script portrays traditional systems including religious beliefs, ritual offerings, supernatural agreements, and socio-cultural conflicts reflecting moral deviation and community value transformation. Novelty/Originality of this study: This study offers a focused literary anthropology analysis on pesugihan within modern Indonesian drama, integrating classical anthropological theory with contemporary literary text analysis. It advances cultural-literary studies by contextualizing mystical economic practices as structured cultural phenomena within dramatic narrative discourse.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study aims to describe and analyze the linguistic forms, ritual lexicons, and cultural meanings embedded in Sundanese life-cycle ceremonies using an ethnolinguistic approach to reveal how language reflects cultural concepts, belief systems, and social structures. Methodology: This study employed a qualitative descriptive design with an ethnolinguistic framework. Data were collected through participant observation, semi-structured interviews, documentation study, audio recording, and field notes. Purposive sampling was applied. Data were analyzed using lexical classification, semantic analysis, pragmatic analysis, cultural interpretation, and triangulation techniques. Main Findings: The findings reveal that Sundanese life-cycle rituals contain structured ritual lexicons across pregnancy, birth, childhood, marriage, and death phases. These lexicons function as symbolic-cultural representations encoding cosmology, agrarian metaphors, religious syncretism, and social hierarchy through undak usuk basa. Ritual language operates as a semiotic system preserving collective memory and worldview. Novelty/Originality of this study: This study offers a comprehensive ethnolinguistic mapping of Sundanese life-cycle ritual lexicons by integrating semantic, pragmatic, and cultural analyses in one framework. It advances knowledge by demonstrating how ritual language systematically encodes cosmology, social hierarchy, and ecological cognition within contemporary cultural contexts.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study aims to analyze the multidimensional determinants of public interest in EF English First Pamulang Barat and to identify the most dominant factors influencing community enrollment decisions in a private language education institution. Methodology: This research employed a descriptive quantitative survey design. Data were collected using a structured Likert-scale questionnaire distributed to 36 respondents selected through simple random sampling. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistical percentage analysis with SPSS software to measure dimensional contributions to public interest. Main Findings: The overall public interest level reached 79.9% (Good category). All ten examined dimensions positively influenced public interest. Official certificates and diplomas obtained the highest score (85%), followed by small-class effectiveness (84%) and course consultant facilities (83.5%). Replacement classes received the lowest score (72%). Certification was identified as the most dominant determinant Novelty/Originality of this study: This study offers a multidimensional quantitative mapping of public interest by ranking ten institutional determinants within a private language education context. It highlights certification as the dominant predictor, providing new insight into credential-oriented decision-making behavior and advancing understanding of institutional credibility in educational choice.
