Abstract

Background: Adolescence is a transitional phase marked by biological changes, one of which is menstruation. A common problem during menstruation is dysmenorrhea or lower abdominal pain, which can interfere with quality of life and daily activities. One non-pharmacological effort to address this is consuming dark chocolate, which contains magnesium and triggers the release of endorphins as a natural pain reliever. Methods: This study used a quantitative method with a pre-experimental design through a one-group pretest-posttest design. The research population and sample consisted of 30 adolescent girls experiencing menstrual pain, selected using total sampling technique. Data analysis used the Wilcoxon Test to examine the effect before and after the intervention. Results: Before consuming dark chocolate, the majority of respondents experienced moderate pain (76.7%) and severe pain (16.7%). After the intervention, a significant reduction in pain level occurred, with 90% of respondents falling into the mild pain category and no respondents experiencing severe pain. The mean pain level decreased from 2.07 to 1.20 with a p-value = 0.000. Conclusion: The administration of dark chocolate has a significant effect on reducing the level of dysmenorrhea pain in adolescents at Puskesmas Ibu.

Abstract

Stunting, also known as growth failure in children, is a condition caused by a child's nutritional needs not being met for a long time, specifically during the first 1,000 days of life. The first 1,000 days of life are the first 270 days (nine months) in the mother's womb plus the first 730 days (two years) of a baby's life after birth. Education is a learning process aimed at developing the potential or quality of thought patterns and knowledge of an individual or group. One of the goals of education is to increase public knowledge. The target group for the first 1,000 days of life is pregnant women. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of education on pregnant women's knowledge about the first 1,000 days of life at the Tombulilato Community Health Center, Bone Raya District, Gorontalo City. The type of research used is Quasi Experiment with a two group pretest and posttest design approach. The sample in this study were 32 pregnant women in the intervention group and 32 in the control group. Data collection was done through a questionnaire. Data were analyzed using a paired T test with a 95% confidence interval (CI) and α <0.05. The results of the study showed that Educational Intervention had a significant effect on the knowledge of pregnant women (p = 0.000) in the First 1000 Days of Life in the Tombulilato Health Center area, Bone Raya District. It is hoped that more practical information will be provided to the community, especially prospective mothers, in preparing a quality next generation, especially in the First 1000 Days of Life. As well as optimizing Posyandu services, and involving the participation of families such as husbands and parents when socialization and information provision are carried out.

Abstract

In order to guarantee the best possible maternal health and fetal growth throughout pregnancy, complementary services for expectant mothers are required. These services include nutrition, mental health, and supplementary medical treatment. According to data, 70% of pregnant women have low back discomfort. According to a different poll, eight out of ten third-trimester pregnant women report having back pain. Doing Childpose (Balasana) exercises is one more way to lessen this problem. This study sought to ascertain if Childpose (Balasana) exercises were beneficial in lowering low back pain complaints among pregnant women in their third trimester at the South Bolango City Health Center. This study employed a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest approach with a sample of 34 pregnant women in the third trimester. There were twenty participants in the study's sample. Childpose or balasana exercises are beneficial in relieving back discomfort in third trimester pregnant women at the South Bolango Health Center, according to the data, which indicated a P-value of 0.000 <0.05.

Abstract

Background: Exclusive breastfeeding is a crucial factor in improving infant growth and health during the first six months of life. However, the achievement of exclusive breastfeeding is often influenced by various maternal factors, including the mother’s occupation. Working mothers frequently face challenges related to time constraints, workplace support, and breastfeeding facilities, which may affect their ability to provide exclusive breastfeeding. Understanding the relationship between maternal occupation and exclusive breastfeeding is essential to improve breastfeeding promotion programs at primary health care levels. Objective: This study aimed to determine the relationship between mother’s occupation and exclusive breastfeeding at the Posi Posi Community Health Center. Methods: This study employed an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 30 mothers who had infants aged 6–12 months, selected using a total sampling technique. Data were collected through structured questionnaires and maternal health records. Statistical analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon test to examine the relationship between mother’s occupation and exclusive breastfeeding practices. Results: The results showed a statistically significant relationship between mother’s occupation and exclusive breastfeeding practices. The Wilcoxon test analysis obtained a p-value of 0.001 (p < 0.05), indicating that maternal occupation significantly influenced the provision of exclusive breastfeeding at the Posi Posi Community Health Center. Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between mother’s occupation and exclusive breastfeeding. Working mothers tend to experience more barriers in providing exclusive breastfeeding compared to non-working mothers. Strengthening workplace support, breastfeeding-friendly policies, and continuous health education is recommended to improve exclusive breastfeeding coverage.

Abstract

Sleep disturbances are a common complaint among perimenopausal women due to hormonal, psychological, and physiological changes, which impact their health and quality of life. Safe and easy-to-apply non-pharmacological approaches, such as lemongrass aromatherapy (Cymbopogon citratus), have the potential to be a supportive alternative in overcoming sleep disturbances during this phase. However, empirical evidence regarding the effect of lemongrass aromatherapy on the sleep quality of perimenopausal women is still limited, especially in the context of primary health care in Indonesia. This study aims to analyze the effect of lemongrass aromatherapy on the sleep quality of perimenopausal women. This study used a quantitative approach with a one-group pretest–posttest pre-experimental design. The sample consisted of 30 perimenopausal women selected using total sampling technique in the working area of Pustu Paring Lahung UPT Tumpung Laung. The intervention in the form of lemongrass aromatherapy through inhalation was carried out regularly before bedtime. Sleep quality was measured before and after the intervention using a standardized questionnaire. Data analysis was performed descriptively and bivariately using Fisher's Exact Test. Descriptively, there was an improvement in sleep quality after the administration of lemongrass aromatherapy, marked by a decrease in the proportion of poor sleep quality and an increase in good sleep quality. However, the statistical test results showed that the relationship between sleep quality before and after treatment was not statistically significant (p = 0.515). Lemongrass aromatherapy showed a tendency toward clinically significant improvement in sleep quality, but this was not statistically significant. Further research with a stronger design and longer intervention duration is needed to confirm the effectiveness of lemongrass aromatherapy on the sleep quality of perimenopausal women.

Abstract

Exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life is an important effort to improve infant health and survival. Although the benefits of exclusive breastfeeding are widely known, its practice is still not optimal in various regions due to the influence of social and cultural factors. This study aims to analyze the relationship between socio-cultural factors and the practice of exclusive breastfeeding in breastfeeding mothers. The study used a descriptive analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 30 mothers with infants aged 6–12 months at the Kobe Community Health Center, selected using an accidental sampling technique. Data were collected through interviews using a structured questionnaire and analyzed univariately and bivariately using the Chi-square test and Fisher's Exact Test. The results showed that 56.7% of mothers successfully provided exclusive breastfeeding. Husband's support and family traditions had a significant relationship with the practice of exclusive breastfeeding, with p = 0.030 and p = 0.040, respectively. Mothers who received high husband's support and were in a supportive family environment had a greater chance of successfully providing exclusive breastfeeding. This study concluded that socio-cultural factors play an important role in determining the success of exclusive breastfeeding.

Abstract

Pregnancy is a crucial period that requires intensive maternal health monitoring. Prenatal exercise is a non-medical intervention that is beneficial for improving physical fitness, reducing pregnancy complaints, and preparing mothers for childbirth. This study aims to determine whether there is a relationship between the knowledge and attitudes of pregnant women and the implementation of prenatal exercise at the Dolik Community Health Center. This study design was quantitative descriptive analytic with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 28 pregnant women selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire regarding knowledge, attitudes, and implementation of prenatal exercise, then analyzed using the Chi-Square test. The results showed that the majority of pregnant women had good knowledge (60.7 %) and a positive attitude towards prenatal exercise (64.3%). Bivariate analysis showed a significant relationship between knowledge and implementation of prenatal exercise (p = 0.021) and between attitude and implementation of prenatal exercise (p = 0.034). Mothers with good knowledge and positive attitudes were more likely to regularly participate in prenatal exercise. This study shows a relationship between knowledge and attitudes and implementation of prenatal exercise, so increasing education and fostering positive attitudes are important strategies to encourage participation of pregnant women.

Abstract

Umbilical cord care is an important part of newborn care because the umbilical cord that has not fallen off has the potential to become an entry point for germs if not cared for hygienically. In the community, traditional umbilical cord care practices are still widely practiced and often do not comply with medical standards. This study aims to determine the effect of umbilical cord care education on cleanliness and duration of umbilical cord detachment in newborns in the Bongo 2 Community Health Center, Boalemo Regency. This study used a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The study sample consisted of 24 newborns selected using a total sampling technique. The intervention in the form of umbilical cord care education was given to the parents of the babies, then measurements were taken of umbilical cord cleanliness and duration of umbilical cord detachment before and after education. Data analysis was performed using a paired t-test or Wilcoxon signed-rank test with a significance level of p < 0.05. The results showed an increase in umbilical cord cleanliness after education, with a p value = 0.001. In addition, the average duration of umbilical cord detachment decreased significantly after education, with a p value = 0.000. This study concludes that umbilical cord care education has a significant effect on improving hygiene and optimizing the duration of umbilical cord removal in newborns.
