Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) remains a significant global health concern, with Mycobacterium tuberculosis as the causative agent. The emergence of drug-resistant forms, such as Multi-drug-resistant TB (MDR-TB) and Extensive-drug-resistant TB (XDR-TB), poses substantial challenges in TB management. This study focuses on analyzing the cost variations associated with laboratory examinations for MDR-TB and XDR-TB patients undergoing treatment cycles at a tertiary hospital. The methodology involved the inclusion of patients diagnosed with MDR-TB or XDR-TB who underwent a range of laboratory tests during their treatment. A cross-sectional retrospective analytics approach was employed, utilizing medical records from the hospital's MDR division. The results of the study, encompassing 30 MDR-TB patients and 2 XDR-TB patients, revealed significant differences in laboratory examination costs between the MDR-TB and XDR-TB groups (p = 0.018). This disparity underscores the financial burden associated with managing drug-resistant TB variants, particularly in terms of laboratory monitoring and diagnostic procedures. The discussion delves into the implications of these cost variations, highlighting the challenges faced by healthcare systems and patients in resource allocation and financial planning for TB treatment. The findings underscore the importance of cost-effective strategies and optimized laboratory protocols to ensure comprehensive yet affordable care for MDR-TB and XDR-TB patients. In conclusion, this study sheds light on the considerable cost variations in laboratory examinations for MDR-TB and XDR-TB patients, emphasizing the need for efficient resource utilization and targeted interventions to address the financial aspects of managing drug-resistant TB strains effectively.

Abstract

Background: In Indonesia, the prevalence of anemia in pregnant women is 37.1%, the highest number in rural areas is 37.8%, the lowest in urban areas is 36.4%, in 2018 it increased to 48.9%. Pregnant women continue to experience the greatest rates of anemia in rural areas (49.5%) and urban areas (48.3%) (Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, 2019). In 2016, the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia reported that the three primary causes of direct maternal mortality in Indonesia during pregnancy and childbirth remain unchanged: 30.3% of the cases were connected to hemorrhage, 27.1% to hypertension during pregnancy, and 7.3% to infections. Objective: This study aims to identify risk factors for the incidence of pre-eclampsia and anemia in Indonesia. Methods: Uses the Study Literature Review method by taking data that has been published on trusted national research sites. Results: Based on research results through a review that had been carried out, researchers found 14 national studies that were included in the inclusion criteria. Conclusion: The most dominant risk factors for preeclampsia are history of preeclampsia, parity, pregnancy spacing and maternal age. Meanwhile, the most dominant risk factors for anemia in pregnant women in this study were: nutritional status, maternal age, parity and pregnancy spacing.

Abstract

Hypertension, acommonand chronic non-communicable disease, has become a global health problem and aleading cause of death. Blood pressure that exceeds normal values is known as hypertension, or high blood pressure. From this theory, this study aims to assess the relationship between obesity and family history factors that affect hypertension in women of childbearing age. This study used quantitative methods with an observational analytic design cross-sectional approach. The selected population was women aged 15 to 45 years Getakmoyan village. The result, because the ρ value is greater than α = 0.05. The results showed that 16 respondents who were obese and had hypertension had a ρ value of 0.007 (α = 0.05 because the ρ value was smaller than α). Overall, lifestyle factors such as obesity and diet have a greater influence than family history on the risk of hypertension in women of childbearing age.

Abstract

Cardiac Troponin1 (cTn1) is a protein released into the bloodstream following cardiac damage and Brain Natriuretic Peptide (BNP) is a hormone released by the heart in response to ventricular stretch and pressure overload. This study aims to investigate the predictive role of cTn1 and BNP in preeclamptic pregnant women in the third trimester of pregnancy. Forty (40) consenting pregnant women were recruited from St. Philomina Catholic Hospital, Edo State, Nigeria. Blood samples was spun in a bucket centrifuge at 2500 RPM (rounds per minute) for 10 minutes after which plasma was collected and stored frozen in plain sample bottles and was analyzed for Cardiac Troponin 1(cTn1) and Brain Natriuretic Peptide (BNP) by fluorescence immunoassay. Data obtained from this study were analysed using Graph Pad Prism 9. Results generated were expressed as mean ± SEM and a P-value of ≤ 0.05 were considered statistically significant. The present study showed that there was statistically significant increase in Brain Natriuretic Peptide (BNP) in preeclamptic women compared to normotensive pregnant women, indicating various underlying pathophysiological processes. These findings suggest the potential predictive roles of this cardiac marker in identifying and monitoring preeclampsia.

Abstract

C-reactive protein (CRP) and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) are general marker for inflammation and Arterial damage results from white blood cell invasion. This study aims to assess the level of inflammatory markers C-Reactive Protein (CRP) and High-Sensitivity C-Reactive Protein (hs-CRP) in preeclamptic pregnant women in the third trimester of pregnancy. Fourty (40) consenting pregnant women were recruited from St. Philomina Catholic Hospital, Edo State, Nigeria. Blood samples was spun in a bucket centrifuge at 2500 RPM (rounds per minute) for 10 minutes after which plasma was collected and stored frozen in plain sample bottles and was analyzed for C-reactive protein (CRP) and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) levels by fluorescence immuno assay. Data obtained from this study were analysed using Graph Pad Prism 9. Results generated were expressed as mean ± SEM and a P-value of ≤ 0.05 were considered statistically significant. The present study showed that there was statistically significant increase in the level of C-Reactive Protein (CRP) and High-Sensitivity C-Reactive Protein (hs-CRP) in preeclamptic women compared to normotensive pregnant women, indicating various underlying pathophysiological processes such as inflammation.

Abstract

Breast Self-Examination (BSE) is an important action in the early detection of breast cancer. Early detection plays a crucial role in increasing the success rate of treatment and reducing mortality from breast cancer. This study aims to determine the effect of leaflet-based health education about BSE on increasing knowledge among Women of Childbearing Age in the Tarailu Health Center Work Area, Mamuju Regency. The research method used is quantitative research with a Quasi-Experimental research design and a "One Group Pretest-Posttest" design using a purposive sampling technique with a sample of 40 respondents. The results of the study show a significant increase in the respondents' knowledge after being given leaflet-based health education about BSE. Based on the paired sample t-test, a T value of -5.182 was obtained with a p-value of 0.00 < 0.005. This indicates that the hypothesis is accepted, meaning there is an effect of health education about BSE on increasing knowledge among Women of Childbearing Age in the Tarailu Health Center Work Area, Mamuju Regency, in 2024. This study provides useful information to raise awareness about the importance of breast self-examination as an early detection step for breast cancer among women of childbearing age in the area.
