Abstract

The study investigated locus of control and self-concept as determinants of internet addiction among public university undergraduates in Oyo State. Four hundred University Undergraduates were selected through stratified random sampling techniques which were used in sampling participants from two selected public universities in Oyo state. To achieve the objectives, the respondents were measured with relevant adopted standardized scales such as Self-Concept Scale, Locus of Control Scale and Internet Addiction Scale. Four research hypotheses were tested in the study through Pearson Product Moment Correlation and Multiple Regression analysis. Results showed that there was a significant relationship between locus of control and internet addiction (r=0.12; p<0.05), there was a significant relationship between self-concept and internet addiction (r=0.66; p<0.05), there is a joint effect between locus of control, self-concept and internet addiction (F 2,397=148.020; p<0.05) while locus of control do not statistically predict internet addiction (t=0.618, p>0.05) and self-concept statistically predict internet addiction (t=16.942; p<0.05). The study recommends among others that school counsellors and policy makers should organize seminars, workshop and conferences to sensitize the studentsof the need to have realistic and objective self-assessment and self-concept.

Abstract

The impact of ICT in counselling cannot be undermined, especially, in developed nations. However, there seems to be a low level of ICT adoption in counselling services delivery among professional counsellors in Nigeria particularly, in Kwara state. The study examines the perception and attitude of professional counsellors towards e-counselling services delivery in Kwara State, Nigeria and determines the influence of gender and length of practice on the respondents’ perception and attitude towards e-counselling. The survey research design was adopted in this study and the convenient sampling technique was used to select 400 respondents from an unknown population of professional counsellors in Kwara State. The self-structured “Perception and Attitude Towards Ecounselling Questionnaire” was validated by experts. The findings revealed that professional counsellors in Kwara State perceived both the benefits and challenges embedded in e-counselling services delivery and exhibited positive attitudes towards them. Gender disparity was found in the respondents’ attitude towards e-counselling but not in their perception; while length of practice influenced both the respondents’ perception and attitude towards e-counselling. It was concluded that professional counsellors in Kwara State perceived both the benefits and challenges embedded in e-counselling services delivery and exhibited positive attitudes towards them. It was recommended among others that government and counselling stakeholders should design e-counselling templates to strengthen the ethical codes and conduct towards e-counselling service delivery.

Abstract

Education of values in children in the family is essential in forming future generations' character and morality. In the context of Indonesian society, knowledge of educational values in Muslim families is critical because of their position as majority community members. Apart from that, efforts to examine the results of empirical research on the theme of values education in Muslim families in Indonesia are still limited. Therefore, this article aims to explore the results of empirical research on the theme of values education in Muslim families and compile them into a narrative. This research uses the scoping review method. Literature exploration sourced from Google Scholar (scholar.google.co.id) with a search range of the last ten years (2013-2023) on 09 November 2023. The literature was selected based on the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews (PRISMA) steps. These steps resulted in 23 articles that met the criteria for review. The results of empirical research related to values education for children in Muslim families focus on four themes: implementation of values in the family environment, children's environment, internal family relationships, and the urgency of teaching religion to children. The implications of the results are discussed further.
