Abstract

Background: Stunting is a chronic form of malnutrition caused by prolonged inadequate nutritional intake, leading to impaired growth in children. This condition results in a child’s height being significantly shorter than the standard for their age. The impact of stunting can last a lifetime, affecting cognitive, motor, and verbal development, and may extend to the next generation. Objective: This study aimed to examine the relationship between maternal characteristics and socioeconomic factors with the incidence of stunting among children under five in Palembik Village, within the working area of the Darek Health Center, Southwest Praya District. Methods: This was an analytical study using a cross-sectional design to assess the association between independent variables (maternal characteristics and socioeconomic factors) and the dependent variable (stunting incidence). Data were analyzed using the Chi-square test. Results: Significant relationships were found between several maternal and socioeconomic factors with the incidence of stunting. Maternal age was significantly associated with stunting (p = 0.001), as was maternal height (p = 0.000). Maternal education also showed a significant association (p = 0.002). Among socioeconomic variables, father's education (p = 0.002), father's occupation (p = 0.001), mother's occupation (p = 0.000), and family income (p = 0.000) were all significantly related to stunting incidence. Conclusion: Maternal characteristics including age, height, and education as well as socioeconomic factors such as parental education, parental occupation, and family income, are significantly associated with the incidence of stunting in Palembik Village, Darek Health Center area, Southwest Praya District.

Abstract

Background: The elderly population experiences gradual physical, mental, and social decline, increasing vulnerability to degenerative diseases such as hypertension. Elevated blood pressure in older adults is often associated with poor lifestyle choices, inadequate physical activity, poor dietary habits, stress, and sleep disturbances. Objective: This study aimed to examine the relationship between stress levels and sleep quality with the incidence of hypertension among elderly individuals in Nenggung Village, within the Masbagik Health Center's working area Methods: A cross-sectional correlational design was used. The sample consisted of elderly individuals selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using standardized questionnaires: the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) to measure stress levels, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) to assess sleep quality, and medical records to confirm hypertension status. The Spearman rank correlation test was used to analyze the relationships between variables. Results: The analysis revealed a significant positive correlation between stress level and hypertension incidence (p = 0.002; r = 0.495), indicating a moderately strong relationship. A significant correlation was also found between sleep quality and hypertension incidence (p = 0.007; r = 0.448), suggesting that poor sleep quality is moderately associated with increased hypertension risk. Conclusion: Higher stress levels and poor sleep quality are significantly associated with the incidence of hypertension in the elderly. Preventive measures such as regular health monitoring, stress management, and promoting better sleep hygiene are recommended to reduce hypertension risk in this population.

Abstract

Background: Stress is a common part of student life due to various academic and personal demands. Academic stress, if not properly managed, can negatively impact sleep, a vital physiological process that supports physical, psychological, social, and cognitive functions. Objective: This study aimed to examine the relationship between academic stress and sleep quality among nursing students. Methods: An analytical descriptive study with a cross-sectional design was conducted among 51 nursing students from the class of 2024 at the Indonesian Muslim University. Academic stress and sleep quality were measured using validated questionnaires, and data were analyzed using the Chi-square test. Results: Among respondents, 33 students (64.7%) with mild academic stress reported poor sleep quality, while 10 students (19.6%) with mild stress had good sleep quality. Eight students (15.7%) with severe academic stress reported poor sleep quality, and no respondents with severe stress reported good sleep quality. Statistical analysis showed a significant association between academic stress and sleep quality (χ², p = 0.000 < 0.05). Conclusion: Academic stress is significantly associated with sleep quality among nursing students at the Indonesian Muslim University. It is recommended that students receive education on stress management strategies to reduce academic stress and its negative impact on sleep.

Abstract

Background: Diabetes mellitus is the most common disease that causes other diseases or complications, one of which is gangrene.  In connection with the spread of the corona virus-19, this can worsen the health of people with diabetes mellitus if they experience complications, one of which is gangrene.  With that, Clean and Healthy Lifestyle plays a very important role in the daily life of people with diabetes mellitus during the corona virus-19 pandemic to prevent gangrene. Researchers provide interventions in the form of education on clean and healthy living behavior in patients with diabetes mellitus. Objective: This study aims to determine the effect of education on clean and healthy living behavior in patients with diabetes mellitus on the incidence of gangrene during the corona virus-19 pandemic. Methods: This research was conducted with a pre-experimental approach with the One Group Pretest-Postest Design.  The sample used is 58 respondents with stratified random sampling technique. Analysis of the data used is the Mc Nemar test. Results: Based on statistical tests using the Mc Nemar test, the value of p-value or significant is 0.004 <0.05 which means there is an effect of education on clean and healthy living behavior in diabetes mellitus patients on the incidence of gangrene during the corona virus-19 pandemic. Conclusion: Education on clean and healthy behavior positively influenced diabetes mellitus patients in preventing gangrene during the COVID-19 pandemic. The intervention encouraged improved self-care practices, particularly in foot care, hygiene, and lifestyle management, thereby reducing the risk of complications. These findings highlight the importance of integrating preventive education into diabetes care, especially during public health crises.

Abstract

Background: Pain management is one of the essential competencies that nursing students should possess. However, knowledge in this area remains suboptimal. One of the media that can be utilized to enhance education is the Quick Response (QR) Code, which enables quick, flexible, and repeated access to materials, thereby potentially improving students’ understanding of pain management. Objective: This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of QR Code–based educational media in improving nursing students’ knowledge of pain management Methods: This study employed a pre-experimental design with a pretest–posttest one-group approach. The sampling technique used was a total sampling technique, involving 25 respondents. Results: The findings indicated that the effectiveness of QR Code–based educational media in improving nursing students’ knowledge of pain management was mostly in the good category. However, despite having good knowledge, students still need improvement in practical skills and attitudes. Conclusion: Nursing students’ knowledge of pain management after receiving education through QR Code–based media falls into the good category. However, several aspects still need improvement, such as practical skills and professional attitudes, through training such as simulations and practice integrated into the nursing curriculum.
