Abstract

Diabetic retinopathy is a serious complication of diabetes that affects the blood vessels in the retina, leading to nutritional disorders. In Central Java Province, the prevalence of diabetes mellitus increased from 10% in 2022 to 12.52% in the third quarter of 2023; this phenomenon has not reached the SDG's target of zero increase. This study analyzes the frequency distribution of diabetic retinopathy cases at RSUP Dr. Kariadi Semarang in 2023. Using a cross-sectional design, this observational descriptive research utilized electronic medical record data from RSUP Dr. Kariadi Semarang in 2023. The study examined various variables, including gender, age, education level, employment status, marital status, BMI, DM diet, duration of DM, hypertension, other diseases, current blood glucose, and HbA1c. Univariate analysis was used to determine the frequency distribution and present graphical representations of each variable. The study's findings showed the largest percentage of diabetic retinopathy patients were female (54.2%), aged 50-59 years (48.8%), with low education (38.0%), working (66.3%), married (92.8%), and obese (18.7%). Most patients had a duration of DM ≥ 5 years (51.2%), hypertension (73.5%), and other diseases such as azotemia, CKD, cataracts, and cardiomegaly; patients had blood glucose at ≥ 200 mg/dL (53.0%) and HbA1c ≥ 6.5% (88.0%).

Abstract

Diarrhea is still a challenging health problem for children under five years of age in Indonesia. Diarrhea due to waterborne diseases is still prevalent in Samarinda, and this environmental health problem could trigger outbreaks in multiple regions. The objective of this study was to analyze the effect of child characteristics, mother characteristics, and environmental characteristics in Samarinda. The research method used a case-control design with a sample of 124 (62 cases and 62 controls), and the data was obtained by interview using a questionnaire. The sampling technique was consecutive sampling. Data analysis was carried out, including univariate and bivariate, by chi-square statistical tests. And multivariate analysis by multiple logistic regression. The results showed that the incidence of diarrhea with nutritional status P = 0.027 (OR = 2.292; 95% CI: 1.092-4.807); history of exclusive breast-feeding P = 0.040 (OR = 2.180; 95% CI: 1.030-4.612); history of immunization status P = 0.014 (OR = 2.860; 95% CI: 1.218-6.716); worker mother P = 0.08 (OR = 0.354; 95% CI: 0.163-0.771); and clean water source P = 0.09 (OR = 2.754; 95% CI: 1.280-5.923); and drinking water management P = 0.017 (OR = 2.444, 95% CI: 1.166-5.127). The factors that did not relate significantly in this research were the child’s age (P = 0.402), mother’s age (P = 0.467), mother’s education (P = 0.534), and family income (P = 0.579). The result from the multivariate shows the variable that had the most significant association with diarrhea was the mother’s occupation. The accessibility to clean water sources was an intervening variable that played an important role in diarrhea cases in Samarinda. Health institutions also need to conduct periodic water quality checks and increase community knowledge about water quality and diarrhea prevention. This study could provide valuable input for diarrhea prevention and control programs.

Abstract

Anemia during pregnancy can lead to serious complications, such as bleeding and premature birth. The prevalence of anemia in Semarang in 2022 reached 15.4%, exceeding the WHO target. This study aims to analyze factors influencing the occurrence of anemia among pregnant women in Semarang in 2023. The study was conducted at five public health centers in Semarang with 183 pregnant women, consisting of 61 with anemia and 122 without anemia. Data were collected from January to July 2024, with analysis using Chi-Square and logistic regression tests. Significant factors associated with anemia included age (p=0.006), employment status (p=0.005), gravidity (p=0.047), ANC history (p=0.036), compliance with iron supplementation (p=0.003), tea/coffee consumption habits (p=0.024), iron intake from food (p=0.033), nutritional status (KEK) (p=0.041), and knowledge about anemia (p=0.009). Multivariate analysis showed that age (OR=3.09), employment status (OR=0.395), and KEK status (OR=2.99) were higher risks for anemia. Age, employment status, and nutritional status (KEK) are significant factors affecting anemia in pregnant women in Semarang, highlighting the importance of nutritional interventions and health education for pregnant women.

Univariate analysis showed that most respondents were young elderly (48.5%), males (55.9%), had no history of smoking (52.9%), no history of consuming alcohol (91.2%), had normal body mass index (58.8%), had hypertension (69.1%), did not have diabetes mellitus (92.6%), did not have depression (75%), had mild dependence (50%), and did not have dementia (50%). The results of the hypothesis test of the Rank Spearman correlation between the level of independence of the elderly and dementia showed a strong correlation in a significant positive direction with a correlation coefficient of 0.561. Daily physical activities with moderate intensity are required to prevent dementia.

Abstract

Exclusive breastfeeding is the best nutrition for babies, but its coverage in Indonesia remains low, including in Temanggung Regency. Working mothers, especially in large industries like PT. X, often face challenges due to facility constraints, company policies, and other factors. This study aims to identify factors related to exclusive breastfeeding among working mothers at PT. X, Kranggan District, Temanggung Regency. It is an observational quantitative study with a crosssectional design conducted via direct interviews with 56 plywood worker respondents at PT. X using a validated questionnaire. The results showed a significant relationship between exclusive breastfeeding and educational attainment (p=0.028), parity (p=0.042), duration of work (p=0.024) and family support (p=0.004). However, no significant relationship was found with knowledge (p= 0.080), maternal attitudes towards exclusive breastfeeding (p=0.086), maternal age (p=0.367), availability of breastfeeding facilities (p=0.091), distance traveled from home to work (p=0.104), travel time from home to workplace (p=0.280), husband support (p=0.086), co-worker support (p=0.080) and health worker support at work (p=0.101). The multivariate model revealed that education level (p=0.019), length of work (p=0.035), and occupational health workforce support (p=0.050) were the most influential factors. This study concludes that education, length of employment, and support of health workers in the workplace have a significant effect on exclusive breastfeeding at PT. X, Kranggan District, Temanggung Regency.

Abstract

Anemia is still one of the health problems in society, especially adolescent girls. The prevalence of anemia in adolescent girls in Cirebon City in 2023 was 36.6%. This study aims to determine the relationship between the lifestyle of adolescent girls and the incidence of anemia in high school students in Cirebon City. The method used in this study is observational analytic using a cross-sectional design. The sample used in this study was 116 adolescent girls. Data collection was carried out by means of structured interviews using questionnaires and checking Hb levels using auto check. Data analysis used includes univariate and bivariate analysis using the chi-square test and multivariate analysis using the logistic regression test. This study shows the results of a significant relationship between dietary patterns including energy consumption p = (0.001), protein consumption p = (0.009), iron consumption p = (0.001), rest patterns p (0.010) with the incidence of anemia and there is no significant relationship between physical activity patterns p = (0.331) with the incidence of anemia. Logistic regression test in multivariate analysis showed that the most influential factor on anemia was the energy consumption diet with OR 7.305. From the results of the study, it can be concluded that there is a significant relationship between diet including energy, protein and iron consumption and rest patterns with the incidence of anemia and the most influential factor on the incidence of anemia is energy consumption.
