Abstract

Hypertension and household waste management are significant issues faced by Indonesian communities, particularly in Wombo Kalonggo Village.  Most villagers work as farmers, while many women remain at home, and the availability of large land areas has contributed to improper waste management practices. Waste is often discarded into dry rivers or openly burned in household yards. This community service program aimed to enhance integrative community knowledge through education on infused water preparation as an effort to prevent hypertension and education on sorting organic and inorganic waste as an environmental management strategy. The method applied was a participatory approach, involving the community in socialization, hands-on practice, and interactive discussions. Infused water education proved effective in improving community knowledge and awareness of healthy lifestyles, particularly in hypertension prevention. Meanwhile, waste sorting education enhanced villagers’ skills in managing household waste and fostered environmentally friendly behavior. The integration of these two programs created a holistic approach that focused not only on individual health but also on environmental cleanliness. The outcomes of this program showed a significant improvement in knowledge, skills, and awareness among the community after the intervention. This initiative highlights the importance of integrating health and environmental education into a sustainable community service program.

Abstract

Two non-communicable diseases that rank third in terms of mortality and are becoming more common in Indonesia are hypertension (HT) and diabetes mellitus (DM). The Chronic Disease Management Program (Prolanis), which aims to maintain the health of individuals with HT and DM, was introduced by the government and the National Health Care Security (BPJS) in response. Prolanis is intended for patients at Primary Health Care Facilities diagnosed with HT and DM. Nonetheless, participation in the Prolanis program remains relatively low. This program aims to increase the knowledge and involvement of HT and DM patients in Prolanis at the Annisa Dua Clinic in Citereup, Bogor City, by using Health Talk Education. The activity's outcomes demonstrated that participants' attitudes and understanding of the significance of participating in Prolanis had increased. Participants also felt more understanding and motivated to participate in activities and contribute to Prolanis. There was high participant satisfaction with this community service program. Participation in Prolanis can be increased through education about the importance of participating in community-based Prolanis related to the community. Of course, collaboration from various parties is needed to achieve Prolanis's goals.

Abstract

Traditional bread products are generally high in sugar and low in protein, which may negatively affect health. On the other hand, traditional bread entrepreneurs face challenges in terms of limited knowledge and skills in product development, packaging, and marketing strategies. This program aimed to improve the knowledge and skills of traditional bread entrepreneurs in producing healthy bread using local food ingredients. Method: The community service activity was carried out through several stages: planning, training in making healthy bread using moringa and legumes, training in packaging design, mentoring marketing strategies using social media, and evaluation through pre-test and post-test. Results: A total of 10 participants joined, mostly aged ≥45 years (90%), with high school education (60%). There was a significant improvement in knowledge, with the average pre-test score of 4.20 increasing to 9.00 in the post-test (p=0.000). Conclusion: Training and mentoring significantly improved the knowledge and skills of traditional bread entrepreneurs. It is recommended that this program be continued sustainably with support for marketing and business licensing.

Abstract

Based on observations among the elderly group, it was found that out of 112 respondents, nearly half (45.5%) suffered from hypertension. However, only 6.3% of the elderly regularly attended Posyandu Lansia (Elderly Integrated Health Post) activities. Currently, services provided at the Posyandu include exercise sessions, health education, and medical check-ups. The objectives of this community service program were to: (1) empower Posyandu cadres, (2) provide education for the elderly regarding a healthy environment, balanced diet, oral health maintenance, and self-acupressure techniques, and (3) offer blood pressure monitoring and acupressure services at the Posyandu Lansia in Kutampi Village. The methods applied in this program included community empowerment, health education, and direct health services. The target participants were Posyandu cadres and elderly residents of Kutampi Village, with activities conducted from June to November 2025. Program success was measured based on attendance and improvement in participants’ knowledge. The cadre empowerment program for elderly hypertension management involved 27 cadres who participated in the training sessions. Strengthening the Posyandu Lansia was achieved through educational activities on hypertension, healthy environments, and appropriate dietary choices for hypertension, along with blood pressure measurement and acupressure services. The program received strong support from the Village Head of Kutampi and the Head of Nusa Penida I Public Health Center. Post-education evaluations showed an improvement in participants’ knowledge.
