Abstract

This paper examines Tafsir Nusantara—the Indonesian tradition of Qur’anic interpretation—as an epistemological foundation for contextual Islam in Indonesia’s plural society. Drawing upon both classical hermeneutical theory and local wisdom, this study argues that Tafsir Nusantara is not merely a cultural phenomenon but a dynamic intellectual paradigm capable of addressing modern issues such as pluralism, radicalism, and globalization. Through analytical comparison between traditional works like Tafsir al-Ibriz and modern commentaries such as Tafsir al-Mishbah, the paper explores how Indonesian scholars integrate universal Islamic values with indigenous ethics. It concludes that Tafsir Nusantara provides an inclusive and dialogical model of interpretation that strengthens Indonesia’s national identity while promoting moderate Islamic thought.

Abstract

This study explores Living Hadith as an interdisciplinary field that bridges textual scholarship, anthropology, and sociology of religion. The research argues that Living Hadith—the study of how prophetic traditions (hadith) are lived, interpreted, and practiced within Muslim societies—requires methodological pluralism to capture its textual depth and social dynamism. Drawing from ethnographic data and textual analyses of Living Hadith practices in Indonesia, including ritual recitations, communal commemorations (maulid), and everyday religious expressions, this study reveals how lived interpretations of hadith transform scriptural authority into cultural performance. By integrating textual hermeneutics with anthropological fieldwork and sociological analysis, the paper demonstrates how Living Hadith functions as both a moral discourse and a social institution that shapes Muslim identity. The findings highlight that interdisciplinarity is not merely an academic method but an epistemological necessity for understanding the social life of hadith. Through Indonesian case studies—particularly from Java, Aceh, and Minangkabau—the article offers a model for future Living Hadith research that combines textual fidelity with ethnographic insight and sociological theory.

Abstract

This study aims to explore Qur’anic verses related to ecological principles through the approach of tafsir maqāsidī in order to formulate a contextual Qur’anic environmental ethic. Using a qualitative library research method, this study analyzes verses on the environment through thematic identification techniques and categorization based on the maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah such as ḥifẓ al-nafs, ḥifẓ al-bī’ah, and ḥifẓ al-nasl. The focus of the study is directed at the prohibition of environmental destruction (fasād) and its correlation with global ecological crises such as climate change and deforestation. The results indicate that tafsir maqāsidī is capable of providing a relevant and applicable interpretation of ecological verses and supports the integration of Qur’anic values with modern sustainability principles, particularly in the context of Islamic education and pesantren.

Abstract

This study explores the implementation of nafkah iddah (maintenance during the waiting period) and mut’ah (consolation gift) for divorced wives, based on the case decision of the Religious Court of Jombang, Case Number 0015/Pdt.G/2018/PA.Jbg. The research stems from the absence of a clear legal standard in Indonesian positive law regarding the amount of nafkah iddah and mut’ah, despite both being recognized as obligations of the husband after divorce. The objective is to analyze the legal basis, judicial considerations, and practical realization of nafkah iddah and mut’ah in divorce cases. This study uses a normative juridical approach combined with a case study and direct interviews with judges. The findings reveal that the amount determined by the judge is influenced by the duration of the marriage, the husband's financial capability, and the agreement between both parties. In this particular case, the court decided on nafkah iddah of IDR 3,000,000, mut’ah of IDR 3,000,000, and nafkah madhiyah of IDR 1,200,000. The decision reflects the principles of justice, propriety, and feasibility, aiming to balance the rights of the wife with the husband's economic ability. The study emphasizes the pivotal role of judges in interpreting and applying Islamic legal values within the framework of Indonesian law.
