Abstract

Copper (Cu) in industrial effluent pollutes the environment if discharged untreated. This study optimised Cu removal using waste eggshell adsorbents and identified the governing operating factors. Chicken eggshell, a 50:50 (w/w) chicken–duck mixture, and duck eggshell were washed, dried at 110 °C, sieved to 140 mesh and calcined at 500 °C for 2 h. A complete 3 × 4 × 2 factorial experiment combined the three adsorbents with doses of 10, 20, 30 and 40 g/L and contact times of 60 and 120 min, giving 24 treatments stirred at 200 rpm. Cu was measured by flame atomic absorption spectrophotometry at 324.8 nm. Analysis of variance showed all three main effects were highly significant while no two-factor interaction was, indicating additive behaviour; adsorbent mass explained 49.8% of total variation, contact time 39.1% and adsorbent type 10.5%. Tukey tests separated all adsorbents and all doses. Optimum conditions within the design space were 40 g/L duck eggshell for 120 min, reducing Cu from 0.1940 to 0.0865 mg/L (55.41% removal). Adsorption capacity fell from 8.10 to 2.69 μg/g as dose rose, so highest removal coincided with least efficient material use. Eggshell waste is therefore a promising low-cost biosorbent for polishing Cu-bearing water.

Abstract

Soil compaction strongly affects root growth, water infiltration and agricultural productivity. This study analysed the effect of soil depth and geomorphic position on soil penetration resistance, the standard field proxy for compaction, and its relationship with soil moisture in Wonosari Village, Kendal Regency, Central Java. Measurements were made in June 2026 at 47 sampling points using a hand-operated cone penetrometer at four depth intervals (0–10, 10–20, 20–30 and 30–40 cm), with three to four replications per point, together with land morphology classification and soil moisture measurement. Morphology could not be assigned at eight points, so morphology and moisture analyses used 39 points. Predominantly non-parametric methods were applied. Penetration resistance increased consistently with depth, from a mean of 804 kPa in the surface layer to 1,728 kPa at 30–40 cm, while variability was greatest at the surface. The convex/upper class recorded the highest resistance (1,630 kPa) and differed significantly from backslopes (1,112 kPa). No interaction between depth and morphology was detected, and no significant relationship with soil moisture was found, although statistical power was low in both cases. Because bulk density was not measured, conclusions about compaction remain inferential. Landscape position should be considered when preparing land for agroforestry development.

Abstract

Large-scale religious facilities are increasingly built in rapidly urbanising regencies, yet their environmental dimension is often treated as a procedural formality rather than a planning input. This study applies an environmental management perspective to the planned Masjid Raya Nurul Wathon, a 26,400 m² mosque complex with a 92.45 m tower in Pakansari, Cibinong, Bogor Regency. Accredited-laboratory sampling of ambient air, noise, surface water and groundwater, ten-year rainfall analysis using the Gumbel distribution and the Rational method, biodiversity observation and a community survey were combined with secondary data. Measurements characterise a post-clearing condition, as the site was already about 90% cleared. Most parameters comply with standards; roadside noise (62.4 dBA) and upstream nitrite (0.138 mg/L) exceed their limits, and no protected biota occur on site. Retaining about 47% green open space reduces two-year design runoff by roughly 35% relative to full pavement, yet provided storage offsets only 56%, 45% and 40% of the additional volume for the 2-, 5- and 10-year events. Peak parking demand also exceeds on-site supply several-fold. The study offers an illustrative, in-principle transferable case of embedding environmental management in facility feasibility assessment; environmental feasibility determination remains the authority of the Environmental Feasibility Test Team.

Abstract

Agroforestry has re-entered Indonesian public debate as a solution tied to food self-sufficiency, land restoration and climate action, yet how the news media construct it remains little examined. This study asked whose voices are granted authority in that coverage, which frames give agroforestry meaning, and whether the evidence offered is realised or promissory. A purposive corpus of 50 online news items from 19 outlets, published between 2013 and 2026 and concentrated in the 2024–2026 surge accompanying the national food-reserve forest programme, was analysed by quantitative content analysis with a thematic and discourse-informed interpretive layer, coding each item on five discursive axes. Within this corpus, government actors were granted authority in 68% of items and agroforestry was constructed as a policy instrument in 40%, while a local wisdom frame appeared in only 14%. Ecological restoration was the most frequent frame (70%), yet food self-sufficiency most often led an item. National-scale claims were predominantly promissory and local-scale claims predominantly realised (Cramér’s V = 0.50), and the promissory register appeared only from 2024 onward (p = 0.003). The study concludes that Indonesian media construct agroforestry chiefly as an instrument of the national food security agenda rather than as a community-rooted practice.

This study examines how the carbon tax under Indonesia's Harmonization of Tax Regulations Law, the Carbon Economic Value framework, and the tax architecture of public–private partnerships jointly shape the viability and environmental outcomes of natural-resource-management infrastructure. Secondary data from the outline business cases of two dam-outflow (run-of-dam) mini-hydro projects in North Sulawesi—Lolak (1.50 MW) and Kuwil (2.50 MW)—covering economic-benefit, value-for-money and risk-allocation analyses were reinterpreted through a fiscal lens. Three findings emerged, although the two cases are near-replicates rather than independent observations. First, the statutory minimum carbon-tax rate of IDR 30,000/tCO₂e, a legal floor not yet in force, anchors the carbon shadow price; economic value remained strongly positive at that floor, and the sensitivity results rather than the point estimates are the operative findings. Second, treating taxes as eliminated transfer payments contributes to the wedge between financial and economic feasibility, though unmonetized externalities account for most of it. Third, while risk transfer drives most of the value-for-money gap, tax revenue from the project company is the decisive offset—a fiscal–environmental co-benefit that attaches to private ownership rather than to the partnership scheme as such.
