Abstract

This study analyzes the resilience of Tenganan Pegringsingan Customary Forest against tourism pressure and state regulation. Synthesizing Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK), Social Capital, and Ostrom’s Institutional Design, this research employs a qualitative case study to examine the causal-institutional dynamics of resource management. The findings reveal a paradoxical condition: the forest management is internally optimal, supported by high biodiversity and strict customary laws (awig-awig), yet externally vulnerable to legal fragmentation and market commodification. State interventions often create legitimacy crises, while global ecotourism risks eroding sacred values. The study concludes that sustainability requires a "nested enterprises" model in which indigenous institutions are recognized as equal partners in governance. Furthermore, contextual education is essential to prevent the erosion of TEK among the younger generation, ensuring the long-term preservation of this social-ecological system.

Abstract

The political economy of development is a significant field of inquiry that examines the interaction between political power and economic dynamics at the national and global levels. This study aims to map and analyze the development of the political economy of development literature, with a particular focus on state–market relations and global capitalism. The research employs a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) combined with bibliometric co-occurrence analysis of peer-reviewed journal articles published between 2000 and 2025. Bibliographic data were analyzed using VOSviewer to identify thematic clusters, conceptual linkages, and temporal research trends. The findings indicate that the political economy of development literature is structured around several core themes, including the role of the state and public institutions, global capitalism and economic globalization, and state–market relations in the formulation of development policies. The results further suggest that global capitalism shapes national policy spaces asymmetrically, leading state–market relations to be understood as a dynamic arena of negotiation rather than a binary opposition. Moreover, the growing use of bibliometric approaches reflects increasing methodological maturity and reflexivity within the field of political economy of development studies. This study contributes by providing a systematic mapping of the intellectual structure and research trajectories of the political economy of development, while offering a conceptual foundation for future research and the formulation of adaptive development policies in the context of global capitalist dynamics.

Abstract

This article examines the ethical paradox underlying the crisis of public trust in Indonesian democracy that followed the 2025 nationwide protests over the housing allowance policy for members of the House of Representatives (DPR). The protests reflected strong moral resistance to injustice amidst socio-economic pressures. Still, the rapid easing of public anger after the policy's revocation suggests a pattern of collective forgiveness that undermines demands for ethical accountability. This Research aims to define forgiveness as a critical ethical category in Indonesian politics. This study utilises a qualitative-descriptive literature review and critical discourse analysis. It combines John Rawls's theory of distributive justice, Alasdair MacIntyre's virtue ethics, and Jürgen Habermas's discourse ethics to interpret the crisis of trust as a question of moral legitimacy rather than simply a policy failure. The analysis demonstrates that forgiveness operates ambivalently: on the one hand, it maintains social harmony and political stability, while on the other, it normalises elite ethical violations. This article proposes a critical ethics of forgiveness as a paradigm for restoring public trust, one that demands reflection, communication, and moral accountability.

Abstract

Informal parking remains a persistent urban phenomenon in Makassar City, especially in areas with high economic activity and mobility. It is often seen merely as a regulatory violation, although it reflects complex social dynamics and power relations. This study analyzes the configuration of informal parking networks and how formal and informal relations shape the control of parking space. Using a qualitative approach through observation and in-depth interviews with parking attendants, PD Parking Makkassar, and local officials, the study applies Rhizomatic Network Analysis and assemblage. The findings show that informal parking operates through dispersed, adaptive, and non-hierarchical networks involving multiple actors, including non-formal actors who influence protection and economic flows. Legal status often emerges after practices are established, blurring formal and informal boundaries. Informal parking is thus best understood as a spectrum of practices shaped by dynamic power relations and urban spatial configurations.

Abstract

This study examines Israel’s recognition of Somaliland in the context of maritime insecurity in the Red Sea during 2023–2026. The research addresses how and why state recognition can function as a strategic instrument for maritime security. The study aims to identify the strategic interests Israel seeks to secure, assess Somaliland’s geopolitical value, and analyze the regional security implications of the recognition. The analysis applies Neorealism and Regional Security Complex Theory to explain the interaction between structural pressures and regional security dynamics. The research employs a qualitative case study design based on document analysis of institutional reports, policy documents, and scholarly literature. The findings indicate that Israel’s recognition of Somaliland serves as a strategic response to maritime vulnerabilities around the Bab el-Mandeb chokepoint by expanding potential access to strategic infrastructure such as Berbera Port. However, this move also triggers regional securitization related to territorial integrity and alters the security configuration of the Red Sea region.
