Abstract

This study presents a philosophical analysis of the intersection between restorative justice and criminal law in the context of granting amnesty and abolition by President Prabowo Subianto to Tom Lembong and Hasto Kristiyanto. The primary focus of this study is to evaluate whether these policies are justifiable under a restorative framework, taking into account the principles of accountability, recognition, and reconciliation. Using normative legal research methods and philosophical approaches, this article argues that although amnesty and abolition are legitimate instruments for achieving political stability, their implementation risks eroding accountability if it is not transparent. Its main findings suggest that these actions are not completely restorative because they are top-down and stop the accountability process. However, it can align with restorative principles if a transparent, accountable, and recovery-oriented process accompanies it. This study concludes that the success of the restorative approach lies in the process, which demands public recognition, the participation of affected parties, and a sincere commitment to improvement.

Abstract

This study examines the phenomena of political alienation and the increasing disengagement of Generation Z from the formal political system, emphasizing their trust in political parties. This research employs a bibliometric analysis spanning 25 years (2000–2025) to chart the evolution of scholarship on teenage political disaffection, integrating theories of political alienation, political socialization, and political trust. The findings indicate that traditional frameworks insufficiently address the difficulties of political detachment in the digital age, where helplessness, meaninglessness, and isolation appear in contradictory forms. Notwithstanding Generation Z's extensive connectedness and access to political information, their trust in conventional institutions is markedly diminished. The research emphasizes the preeminence of Western scholarship in this domain, while accentuating the pressing necessity for region-specific investigations in emerging democracies like Indonesia. This research presents a refined analytical framework that incorporates structural, generational, and psychological aspects to comprehend juvenile political estrangement.

Abstract

This study describes the recruitment pattern of the Voting Organizing Group (KPPS) and its implications for the performance of the 2024 simultaneous elections in Gandusari Village, Trenggalek Regency, East Java. The location is noteworthy due to the high demand for KPPS members, while public interest in applying remained low. These conditions prompted the Village Election Committee (PPS) to make several adjustments, such as relying on personal recommendations and reappointing former members. The analysis draws upon the theory of Proximity-Based Recruitment, which highlights the role of social networks and trust-based selection in recruitment processes, and the theory of organizational effectiveness, which evaluates performance based on efficiency, procedural compliance, and accuracy of outcomes. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach through observation, in-depth interviews, documentation, and literature review, the findings reveal that recruitment in Gandusari prioritized fulfilling the quota rather than competency-based selection. Consequently, KPPS performance was procedurally adequate but remained weak regarding efficiency, accuracy, and the sustainability of work quality.

Abstract

On the eve of the 80th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia, the hoisting of the One-Piece pirate flag (Jolly Roger) sparked a wide-ranging debate on social media, particularly TikTok. This popular culture symbol shifted from being merely a fictional icon to a symbolic political issue involving society, the media, and the government. This study aims to analyze public responses to TikTok content related to the One Piece flag within the framework of digital political communication. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through observations of seven TikTok accounts discussing the issue, along with public interactions in the comment sections, supported by secondary sources from online media. The analysis refers to agenda-setting theory, digital political communication, and critical discourse analysis. The findings reveal that TikTok’s algorithm and user participation play a significant role in shaping the public agenda. Netizens’ responses reflect the tension between official nationalism and freedom of expression, while the One One Piece symbol is positioned as a space of ideological negotiation. These results highlight the role of social media as a dynamic arena of symbolic politics.

Abstract

Impeachment in Indonesia’s presidential system, as regulated in the post-amendment 1945 Constitution, operates at the intersection of formal legal instruments and political practice. Using a qualitative method with juridical-normative and political-analytical approaches, this study examines the constitutional provisions alongside the political configuration of the DPR after the 2024 election. Findings show that while the legal framework prescribes a clear multistage process, its effectiveness is constrained by dominant ruling coalitions and elite interests, making impeachment politically improbable without a legitimacy crisis. Applying Weber’s theory of legitimacy, Thompson’s moral politics, Ackerman’s separation of powers in legitimacy crises, and Linz’s perils of presidentialism, this research argues that impeachment is both a legal and political arena. The study recommends procedural reforms to bridge formal legality and substantive legitimacy, emphasizing public accountability mechanisms to strengthen executive oversight and democratic resilience.

Abstract

The use of digital technology in the forestry sector is an urgent need to address the challenges of transparency, accountability, and sustainability. Forest seed certification and tracking still face various problems, such as certificate forgery, illegal distribution, and weak public trust in conventional systems. This research developed SEEDTRACK, a blockchain-based digital integration system supported by new and renewable energy (EBT), to produce a transparent, secure, and sustainable seed certification and tracking solution. The research method used a Research and Development (R&D) approach with mixed methods, including literature studies, interviews, FGDs, blockchain architecture design, EBT integration, prototype development, and field trials. The results showed that SEEDTRACK was able to increase seed tracking accuracy by 28%, accelerate the certification process by 35%, and reduce the risk of data manipulation by 40% compared to manual systems. In addition, the EBT integration resulted in 22% higher energy efficiency compared to the conventional system baseline. This system is relevant to achieving the 2030 SDGs, particularly goals 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), 13 (Addressing Climate Change), and 15 (Conserving Terrestrial Ecosystems). Therefore, SEEDTRACK has the potential to become a national model for forest seed management that can be replicated across other natural resource sectors.

Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies are central to global digital transformation, promising efficiency and improved decision-making. However, algorithmic bias, systematic and unfair discrimination embedded in AI remains a pressing concern, especially in the Global South where these technologies are often deployed without contextual adaptation. This paper examines how data and value systems from the Global North shape AI development, contributing to unfair outcomes in developing countries. Using a qualitative literature review grounded in critical data studies and postcolonial theory, it explores digital colonialism and AI systems misaligned with local socio-cultural realities. Key challenges include lack of representative datasets, cultural misalignment, and weak regulatory frameworks, leading to exclusion and discrimination. The study advocates for a human rights-centered, context-sensitive AI governance framework emphasizing transparency, local participation, ethical pluralism, and capacity-building. Reframing algorithmic bias as a socio-political issue highlights the urgent need for systemic transformation to ensure AI promotes equitable and just outcomes globally.

Abstract

This research examines music copyright as partial welfare efforts and royalty polemics in the music industry. The study aims to analyze how music industry actors perceive state existence in music copyright protection as state obligations toward citizen rights. Rogers M. Smith's citizenship theory is employed to construct musicians' citizenship through copyright protection struggles. Using qualitative phenomenological methods with transcendental phenomenology approach, findings reveal musicians view copyright protection as fundamental needs encompassing piracy protection, data system transparency, economic rights guarantee, and creativity appreciation. Musicians actively advocate their rights through organizations, yet face challenges of legal uncertainty evident in royalty dispute cases, and inclusion-exclusion dialectics where reality shows massive copyright violations persist, uneven education, and unfair royalty distribution systems. The research concludes the state is absent in providing adequate facilities, requiring strengthened state role as facilitator to ensure music copyright protection as integral part of citizenship rights.

Abstract

The use of soft power through global celebrities allows countries to leverage the influence of famous figures to introduce themselves to the international community, as Dua Lipa did in promoting Kosovo to the international community. This study aims to describe Dua Lipa's role as a cultural diplomacy agent in Kosovo's nation branding efforts on the international stage. Using celebrity diplomacy theory, the study examines how Dua Lipa, as one of the global music icons, leverages her international influence to promote a positive image of Kosovo. A qualitative descriptive approach with literature review was used, collecting sources from books, journals, and mainstream media. The findings reveal that Dua Lipa's involvement in initiatives such as the Sunny Hill Festival has significantly contributed to shaping Kosovo's global nation branding, attracting international tourists, and influencing policy changes such as the liberalization of Kosovo's visa policy for visits to European countries.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the hoisting of the One-Piece flag as a form of symbolic politics and cultural resistance among Indonesian youth during the 80th Independence Day commemoration. The main issue is how popular culture symbols serve as a medium for critiquing social injustice and corruption. Employing Norman Fairclough’s critical discourse analysis, this qualitative research analyzes Tempo news coverage and social media discourse. Findings reveal that the Jolly Roger symbolizes solidarity and freedom, challenging the state’s narrative that frames it as a threat. Youth leverage transnational popular culture to construct alternative political identities in the digital era. The study concludes that this symbolic politics reflects a shift in political contestation toward the cultural sphere, suggesting that youth expressions should be recognized as legitimate political participation rather than threats.
