Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the income of layer chicken farming by calculating production costs, revenue, and net profit. The research employed a descriptive quantitative method with a case study approach on a layer poultry farming unit. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation, and analyzed by calculating variable costs, fixed costs, total costs, revenue, and income. The results showed that the total variable cost reached IDR 2,398,000,000, while the fixed cost was IDR 230,353,000, resulting in a total production cost of IDR 2,628,353,000. Revenue was obtained from the sales of 96,725 racks of eggs and 1,800 culled hens, with a total value of IDR 4,424,625,000. The net income generated amounted to IDR 1,796,272,000, indicating that layer chicken farming is economically feasible and has promising business prospects. These findings emphasize that efficient management of production costs, particularly feed costs, plays a crucial role in improving the profitability of layer poultry farming.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze production risks faced by layer chicken farmers in Dadakitan Village, Baolan District, Tolitoli Regency, as well as the strategies implemented to overcome them. The research employed a qualitative approach with data collection techniques including in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation. The research informant was the owner of a layer chicken farm with a population of 7,000 birds producing an average of 3,000 eggs per day. The results revealed that the main risks in layer farming include human resources (HR), climate change, diseases, chicken mortality, environmental issues, and feed price fluctuations. These risks directly impact productivity decline and business sustainability. Strategies applied by farmers to mitigate these risks include developing standard operating procedures (SOP), conducting technical training, improving farm management, implementing biosecurity measures, administering vaccines and vitamins, maintaining environmental hygiene, and adjusting feed formulations with local ingredients. In conclusion, risk identification and the application of appropriate mitigation strategies can help farmers maintain productivity and ensure the sustainability of layer chicken farming in the study area.

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the reproductive performance of Kacang does raised by smallholder farmers in Galang District, Tolitoli Regency. The research employed a descriptive quantitative method through field observations and structured interviews with 44 farmers representing a total of 332 Kacang goats. The observed variables included age at first mating, postpartum mating interval, kidding interval, litter size, and pre-weaning mortality. Data were analyzed descriptively by calculating the mean, frequency, and percentage for each parameter and were compared with previous studies. The results showed that the average age at first mating ranged from 6 to 12 months, postpartum mating interval was 2–4 months, kidding interval was 7–9 months, litter size was 1–2 kids per birth, and pre-weaning mortality was 9.09%. These findings indicate that Kacang does in Galang District exhibit good reproductive efficiency and adaptability to tropical conditions. The main contributing factors are the availability of natural forage throughout the year, farmers’ experience, and stable traditional management practices. However, the low educational level of farmers and the lack of reproductive record-keeping remain limiting factors that need to be addressed through improved management and targeted extension programs

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of garlic soaking duration on the organoleptic quality of salted duck eggs. Garlic (Allium sativum L.) contains bioactive compounds such as allicin, diallyl disulfide, and phenolic compounds that act as natural antimicrobial and antioxidant agents, thereby potentially improving the sensory quality of salted eggs. The experiment was conducted using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four soaking duration treatments: P0 (without garlic soaking), P1 (10 days), P2 (15 days), and P3 (20 days), each with three replications. A total of 60 duck eggs were used in this study. The soaking solution was prepared from a mixture of water, salt, and garlic, with the garlic amounting to 20% of the salt weight. After soaking, the eggs were steamed for 30 minutes and then subjected to organoleptic testing by 15 semi-trained panelists on four sensory parameters—color, aroma, texture, and taste—using a 1–5 hedonic scale. Data were analyzed using ANOVA and followed by Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT) when significant differences were observed (P<0.05). The results showed that the duration of garlic soaking had a highly significant effect (P<0.01) on all organoleptic parameters. Panelists’ preference scores decreased with increasing soaking duration. Treatments P1 (10 days) and P2 (15 days) produced sensory scores that were still well accepted by the panelists, whereas P3 (20 days) resulted in a significant decline in color, aroma, and texture. It can be concluded that garlic soaking duration significantly affects the organoleptic quality of salted duck eggs, with an optimal duration of 10–15 days to achieve the best sensory characteristics.
