Abstract

This paper examines the applied principles and leadership styles of great ancient men in the light of the Bible as the Word of God. Practically speaking, scholarly literature in leadership and management lacked attention to the study of biblical figures as leaders. The author utilised secondary analysis of qualitative information from documented life stories of renowned leaders in human history. This paper utilizes qualitative content analysis to evaluate patterns of popular ancient leaders' styles in leading their subjects. With content analysis, the author is obliged to read and re-read the text, specifically the Bible, as the main source of data and focus on the specific timeline of the ancient world. The scope and limitation of this paper cover only the discussion on the prominent historical people, specifically Biblical characters, and does not include the current leaders of our time. This paper hopes to bring back the basics on leading people worth emulating by modern-day leaders. It explores the successes and failures of these ancient leaders that shaped history and even world cultures. It also aims to promote a blueprint that was already utilised by leaders in the ancient world regarding leading constituents and subjects. The scope and limitation of this study enfold the discussion on the prominent historical people and does not include the current leaders of our modern time.

Abstract

According to the latest data, the financial literacy index in Indonesia stood at 38%. This figure was definitely an improvement compared to previous years, but was still considerably behind compared to the global standard. Taking into account gender disparity in Indonesia, this figure becomes even more abysmal as the financial literacy index for women is substantially lower than men. To solve this problem, a social media knowledge management framework is proposed to structure and disseminate financial knowledge with the purpose of improving the financial literacy index, especially for women, in Indonesia. This knowledge management platform is supported by a financial education program that has been developed based on the characteristics and needs of typical women in Indonesia. To further substantiate the findings of this study, a series of in-depth interviews were conducted with the aim to acquire a better understanding of various aspects of financial literacy from the perspective of women. In total, 13 women who lived in Bandung were chosen as the main subject of this study based on a judgment sampling technique. Encouragingly, more than three-quarter of the respondents were considered to be well-literate. Digging deeper into the data, however, presents a much more nuanced and complicated insight regarding the behavior of the respondents as most of the respondents simultaneously exhibit a very wide range behavior ranging from discipline to carelessness when managing their money.

Abstract

During the time of the pandemic in 2020, it is notable that the trend of plants flourished. However, at present, there is a decline in demand. The Municipality of Bay, Province of Laguna, is recognized as the "Garden Capital of Laguna," brimming with various plants. The local plant community represents the largest community in the Bay. Thus, the Local Government Unit of Bay acknowledges the necessity to empower and develop this plant community. This research aimed to establish a correlation between the status of e-commerce and the sustainable development of the plant community. The study utilized a descriptive research design and employed a self-made questionnaire to gather information and data from the entire population of respondents. The data collected from the survey were tallied and interpreted. The results revealed that ornamental plants significantly correlate with all the factors of sustainable development of plant communities. Furthermore, both home gardening and plant parenting showed a significant correlation with all the factors of sustainable development of plant community. Among the types of e-commerce, business-to-consumer (B2C) was the only one found to have a significant correlation with the factors of sustainable plant community development. Facebook exhibited greater significance concerning the factors of sustainable development of plant community compared to online selling websites/apps.

Abstract

Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are vital to the Philippine economy, as the COVID-19 pandemic became more widespread, business activity was negatively impacted, strict quarantine measures were implemented, business operating hours were shortened, and the demand for labor from rural and remote areas decreased. With these new solutions, new measures and protocols are adopted and enforced to protect the safety of employees and consumers. The objective of this study is to determine how the COVID-19 pandemic affected the business sustainability of SMEs. The variables used to assess the impact on businesses are supply chain, business relations, resurging, cash flow, and work remotely. This study focuses solely on registered SMEs that existed before the pandemic and were still operational when the study was conducted. Survey questionnaires were used to gather data from business owners. Responses from the participants were presented in tabular form, along with brief explanations of the results. Statistical evaluation of the hypothesis was conducted using a one-way ANOVA and a two-sample T-test. The results showed the assessment of SME owners regarding the impact of the five variables on the sustainability of their businesses. Importantly, the study highlighted additional measures that can be used to better analyze and evaluate which areas of businesses are impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and how to keep those businesses afloat.

Abstract

In Nigeria, small businesses are increasingly turning to social media as an approach for marketing and boosting their sales due largely to its wide reach and cost-effectiveness. The clothing industry is no exception, as small clothing businesses in Nigeria have begun to leverage social media to reach a wider audience and increase sales performance. Apparently, despite the huge potential of social media platforms available to prospective small businesses in Nigeria, existing and prospective small business owners still struggle to utilise these platforms to improve sales performance in the country. The paper examined the level of contributions of social media on small businesses' sales performance vis-a-vis customers purchasing behaviour. Also, it explored inherent challenges clothing businesses encountered on social media platforms for improved sales performance. The study was centred on descriptive research design through a qualitative approach, which relied on interviews. For the study, a purposive sampling technique was used to select 18 participants in the clothing business (shoes, fashion clothes, hairdressing and fashion accessories and hairdressing). By implication, social media usage has a multiplier effect on small businesses vis-à-vis the economic transformation of Nigeria if harnessed in line with the function framework. The study concluded that there is an apt need for small clothing businesses in Nigeria to grasp the trajectories and dynamics of social media and engage in effective and sustainable strategies to leverage social media for optimum benefit.

Abstract

Small businesses play a crucial role in the global economy, and they often operate with limited resources. Social media can be a game changer, providing a cost-effective way to reach a wider audience. The objective of this study is to establish the most widely used social media in terms of its perceived value.  This study employed quantitative analysis. A self-designed survey questionnaire was used with a Cronbach’s alpha of 0.80. A total of 21 statements were included in the self-made questionnaire on social media factors (cost consumption, brand awareness, attractiveness and accessibility) and perceived value (revenue, customer satisfaction and customer retention). A total of 380 respondents who are small business owners in Metro Manila, Philippines participated in the study and were selected using simple random sampling. Descriptive statistics and Pearson’s chi-square tests were used to establish the results and hypotheses of the study. Among the three social media platforms used, Facebook was the most preferred for its perceived value and effectiveness. Social media use as a digital marketing tool was significantly correlated with perceived value in terms of revenue, customer satisfaction, and customer retention; however, the only meaningful correlation found was between attractiveness and business ownership. The results of this study will help small business operators create marketing strategies to attract more consumers, which will lead to an increase in sales and revenue in the future. In addition, the results can be used as a basis for small businesses to attract more customers by utilizing different social media platforms.
