Abstract

Urban communities in densely populated areas often face spiritual challenges due to the fast pace of life and limited access to religious education. This condition results in low literacy in Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh) and results in worship that is less than compliant with Islamic law. This community service program aims to improve Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh) and establish a balance between worldly and spiritual life for urban communities in Kertosari and Karangrejo Villages, Banyuwangi. The methods used are participatory outreach and education through lectures, Q&A sessions, role-plays, and the use of information technology such as videos and infographics to simplify complex Islamic jurisprudence concepts. Mentoring involves studying the Taqrib book as a practical guide and the Bajuri book for deeper understanding, culminating in hands-on practice of ablution and prayer. The program results show a significant increase in community understanding of the requirements and pillars of worship. In addition to the spiritual impact of increased consistency in worship, this activity also strengthens social cohesion and solidarity among residents through collective activities such as completing the Quran and regular recitation. Overall, the contextual non-formal education approach has proven effective in improving the spiritual and social quality of society amidst the dynamics of urban life.

Abstract

This community service program aims to strengthen literacy in the jurisprudence of menstruation (fiqh al-haid) for IPPNU and IPNU youth through a study of Risālatul Maḥīḍ in Purwoasri Village, Tegaldlimo District, Banyuwangi Regency. This program is motivated by the low understanding of youth regarding menstruation jurisprudence and the persistent stigma and sense of taboo surrounding discussions on the issue. The service method was implemented through participatory mentoring, including textual study, focused group discussions, fiqh case simulations, and the development of simple literacy media. The results of the service indicate an improvement in the knowledge, attitudes, and religious practices of both female and male youth, particularly in understanding the concepts of menstruation, istihadhah (irregular bleeding), and their implications for worship. Furthermore, this activity fostered the development of a more open and empathetic culture of fiqh literacy within the NU student organization environment.

Abstract

The spread of religious hoaxes on social media poses a serious challenge for Indonesian youth, whose digital literacy levels are still moderate. This Community Service (PkM) activity aims to improve digital literacy, creative da'wah content production skills, and critical awareness among youth through community counseling. Held in Tegalsari Village, Banyuwangi, East Java (January-March 2026) with 27 participants aged 15-20, the activity used a community empowerment-based Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach. Results showed an increase in the average digital literacy score from 52.4 to 78.9, with the highest increase in the information verification indicator (+35.8 points). Participants produced 54 digital da'wah content, 92.6% of which were deemed suitable for dissemination without revision. Ninety-six percent of participants stated that the activity was very beneficial, and 100% wanted the program to continue. These findings confirm that the integration of digital literacy, creative da'wah, and community counseling is effective in developing critical and responsible digital da'wah agents.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to improve Sharia financing literacy and strengthen the productivity of millennial hydroponic vegetable farmers in Setail Village, Genteng District, through guided implementation of Salam and Istishna’ contracts. Partner farmers faced three main challenges: limited capital access, market price uncertainty, and low literacy of Sharia-compliant financing schemes. The service activity applied a Participatory Action Research (PAR) method with three integrated approaches: participatory education, tripartite partnership facilitation (farmers–Sharia financial institution–offtaker), and intensive production cycle mentoring. Results showed: (1) an average 46.2% increase in farmers’ knowledge of Salam and Istishna’ contracts; (2) 40.1% increase in hydroponic vegetable productivity; (3) 150.8% increase in net income per cycle; and (4) 100% Sharia compliance based on 8 DSN-MUI No. 05/2000 indicators. The activity also produced the Integrated Sharia Hydroponic System (SIHATA) as a replicable model for sustainable Sharia-based agricultural development.

Abstract

This community service program aimed to improve the worship understanding of congregants through the Sinau Bareng (collaborative learning) of classical Islamic jurisprudence (kitab kuning fiqh) at Baitul Muttaqin Mosque, Banyuwangi. The program was conducted using the Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach, which actively involved mosque congregants, mosque administrators, and facilitators in identifying problems, planning activities, implementing learning sessions, and evaluating outcomes. The activities included regular fiqh studies, interactive discussions, worship consultations, and practical guidance on daily religious practices. The results demonstrated an increase in congregants’ understanding of Islamic jurisprudence related to worship, greater participation in mosque-based educational activities, and the development of a collaborative learning culture within the community. Furthermore, the program strengthened the role of the mosque as a center for religious education and community empowerment. Social changes were reflected in the congregants’ improved awareness of performing worship based on sound religious knowledge and their increased engagement in collective religious learning. In conclusion, the Sinau Bareng model of studying classical fiqh texts proved effective in enhancing religious literacy, worship practices, and community participation while fostering sustainable religious empowerment within the mosque community

Abstract

This community service initiative aims to strengthen Quranic literacy at the Panataban Village Quran Education Center (TPQ) by providing guidance on the implementation of the Yanbu’a method, focusing on the continuous improvement of teacher competence and students' reading abilities. Initial assessments revealed disparities in reading proficiency and a lack of standardized teaching practices at the local TPQ, necessitating a structured methodology and intensive support. The implementation team employed a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach, encompassing collaborative problem identification, action planning, teacher training, instructional mentoring, observation and monitoring, and reflective evaluation for ongoing adjustments. Interventions targeted three key areas: teachers as agents of change, TPQ students as the primary beneficiaries, and the TPQ institution itself to ensure the institutionalization of the Yanbu’a method. Results indicate improvements in students' technical Quranic reading skills—specifically regarding fluency and adherence to *tajwid* (recitation rules)—and enhanced teacher capabilities, resulting in more consistent and confident instruction using the Yanbu’a method. Institutionally, the program successfully established a foundation for standardized Quranic instruction at the Panataban TPQ and developed sustainability strategies—including internal monitoring, simplified financial management, and community engagement—to ensure the program's independence beyond the mentoring period. Recommendations include adopting Yanbu’a as the permanent curriculum, strengthening internal monitoring systems, and providing training in institutional financial management to sustain and expand these positive impacts in the future.
