Abstract

Contemporary church mission faces complex challenges due to rapid social, cultural, and technological changes, including digital media dominance, globalization, secularism, and increasing pluralism. Most studies on Paul's mission have not deeply connected his flexibility principles with specific challenges faced by contemporary churches in the digital era. This research aims to examine the missionary principles of the Apostle Paul based on 1 Corinthians 9:19-23 and demonstrate their application in contemporary mission contexts. A qualitative method with literature study approach was used to analyze biblical texts and their relevance to contemporary contexts through various credible literary sources. The research findings show that Paul applied two main principles in his mission: the principle of sacrifice, where he voluntarily relinquished his rights and freedom to become a "servant to all people"; and the principle of openness, evident in his ability to "become all thing...

Abstract

This study stems from confusion among churches and believers regarding who is referred to as the owner of the identity in Isaiah 9:5-6. This study aims to provide a deeper theological understanding, present sound teaching, and offer clarification for the confusion that arises regarding the identification of the character's identity in the text. To achieve this goal, this study uses a qualitative method which shows that Jesus is the owner of the identity described in Isaiah 9:5-6. The Gospel of Matthew theologically presents Jesus as the fulfillment of Isaiah's prophecy, particularly through His identity as Immanuel and His task to save His people from sin. Thus, the Messianic identity in Isaiah 9:5-6 finds its full fulfillment in Jesus. Through this intertextual study, a strong theological continuity between the Old Testament and the New Testament is revealed, which also confirms Jesus' identity as the promised Messiah. This research is expected to contribute to the development of intertextual studies in biblical theology and serve as a methodological reference for future intertextual research.

Abstract

This article examines Micah 3:1–12 as an exegetical-theological foundation for the church’s efforts to ground its ministry among marginalized communities. Micah 3 exposes the abuse of power by Israel’s leaders who oppressed the poor and violated the principles of God’s justice. Through an exegetical approach, this study interprets Micah’s prophetic message within its historical context and then extracts its theological relevance for the life of the contemporary church. The findings indicate that Micah’s critique of social injustice is not merely a moral exhortation but a prophetic call to redirect the life of God’s people toward His will, which sides with the weak and the oppressed. In the ecclesial context, the text underscores that authentic ministry cannot be separated from the praxis of social justice that upholds human dignity. Thus, Micah 3:1–12 provides a prophetic paradigm that guides the church to be concretely present within social realities and to implement a transformative ministry for marginalized groups.

Abstract

This study examines the shift in Joshua’s designation from mesharet Mosheh (servant of Moses) in Joshua 1:1 to ebed YHWH (servant of the LORD) in Joshua 24:29 as a significant theological marker. This change is not merely a linguistic variation but part of the construction of leadership identity that highlights a transition of authority—from human recognition to divine acknowledgment. The primary aim of this research is to uncover the theological meaning embedded in these titles. The study employs a qualitative approach through library research, applying a narrative-theological exegetical method. The research process involves collecting biblical texts and academic literature, reducing the data to focus on key terms, conducting exegetical analysis that includes historical, morphological, semantic, and narrative aspects, and drawing theological conclusions. The findings reveal that the title mesharet Mosheh reflects Joshua’s formative stage as Moses’ assistant, whereas the title ebed YHWH affirms his authority as Israel’s leader recognized by God. This study emphasizes the function of these titles as narrative-theological instruments rather than mere historical records.

Abstract

This article examines the transformation of the Christian mission paradigm from exclusivism to inclusivism within the context of pluralistic societies. The purpose of the study is to analyze how the church can shift the exclusive mindset of believers so that they are able to live and witness in an inclusive, open, and contextually relevant manner amidst social and cultural diversity. This research employs a qualitative method with a descriptive approach, including literature review on missiology, observation of pluralistic communities, and theological analysis of the concept of Missio Dei and mission practices in diverse societies. The findings indicate that exclusivism, while affirming the truth of the faith, can lead to closed-minded attitudes, discrimination, and social conflict. In contrast, the inclusivist paradigm emphasizes the church’s participation in God’s universal work, integrating the proclamation of the Gospel with spiritual education, interfaith dialogue, and cross-community social activities. This transformation of mindset not only strengthens the witness of faith but also positions the church as an agent of reconciliation, peace, and social transformation relevant to pluralistic societies. This study contributes to the field of missiology by offering a new perspective on the importance of inclusivism as a strategy for contemporary Christian mission.
