Abstract

Holiness is the absolute standard for believers. A holy God requires His people to live in holiness. There are many studies that discuss holiness, but this paper finds that there is a deep meaning and special emphasis in Leviticus 19:2 that should be considered and explored further. Based on the descriptive method, literature study and exegetical analysis, this research finds two implications for believers regarding holiness, namely being born again as the basis for every believer to experience cleansing from the old life, and avoiding uncleanness as a commitment to live pleasing to God. This research encourages all believers to continue to live righteously and maintain holiness so that their lives become an example and have an impact.

Abstract

In Job 2:9-10 there is the use of rhetoric through Job's answer to his wife in understanding God's will through reality and the firmness in maintaining faith through the process. This article aims to apply the use of rhetoric in Job 2:9-10 and its implications for today's household harmony. In the literature review, there is a gap in previous research in discussing this rhetorical context of Job's response. Based on the qualitative method in the literature approach, this study found several things, namely: first, that the use of the rhetoric of Job 2:9 is a wise thing to be able to maintain harmony in today's households, and the rhetoric of Job 2:10 is Job's assertiveness in declaring his faith before his wife; second, the implications that can be applied to today's household harmony, especially for believers' households, are: (1). Husband and wife must live in fear of God; (2). Husband and wife must love one another; (3). Husbands and wives must be faithful; (4). Wives are to submit to their husbands; and (5). Husbands are to be firm against sin in the family.

Abstract

Proverbs 29:15 provides a method of parenting that is contrary to many laws today, especially the Child Protection Act No.39 of 1999, because it uses the rod. The use of a cane can be considered as an act of child abuse. Many previous studies have discussed the use of rattan as a method of educating children, but this study found that the combination of stick and reprimand is an excellent parenting method in educating children. Based on the hermeneutic research method of the sub-genre of wisdom literature, this research found two advantages of the parenting method offered by Proverbs 29:15: first, it is a balanced upbringing pattern; second, it has implications for the mental balance of children in their growth and development. This research will enrich the references and methods in parenting for educators and parents, as well as being an input for the development of wisdom literature research.

Abstract

In this article, the author tries to conduct a comparative study of the pattern of human creation in Genesis 1:26-28 with Darwin's theory of evolution. According to Genesis 1:26-28, humans are God's creations formed from dust and soil, then given the breath of life. Meanwhile, according to Darwin's theory, humans are the result of the evolution of other living creatures, starting from very simple organisms that then changed into what they are today. The research method used by the author is qualitative research using literature studies on views from various journals, articles, Bibles and books. The results of this study show that there are fundamental differences regarding the origin of humans. Theologians hold the belief that the first humans were created through God's special work. While evolutionary followers argue that humans are a change in form from other organisms over a very long period of time. Through this research, it is hoped that it will provide additional views in the treasury of scientific knowledge and can be used as one of the considerations to answer the differences in views that are still being discussed today.

Abstract

This study discusses the understanding of sacred worship that involves both heart and mind, highlighting the fallacy of the view that true worship is only determined by liturgy. The author argues that finite humans cannot establish the qualifications of true worship to God, and to respond to this, the author analyzes Psalm 100:1-5 using qualitative research methods and the hermeneutics of Old Testament poetry. The five practical steps in the analysis, called the 5T formula, include finding parallelism, determining the poetic structure, tracing figurative language, reviewing the historical background, and finding theological themes. Through this study, the author aims to provide a more appropriate perspective on sacred worship that should involve both the heart and the mind. Looking at the context of Psalm 100:1-5 has given a clear picture of sacred worship, which includes: the right attitude of heart, the right action in worship, and the right reason for worship.

Abstract

The book of Proverbs is a collection of wise sayings attributed to King Solomon as the wisest king in Israel. One of the themes taught in this book is about being wise in keeping words. The authors of the book of Proverbs often echo this theme with tongue allegations. This study aims to explore the teachings of the book of Proverbs regarding the use of the tongue by believers. The main question we want to discuss is: what is the teaching of Proverbs about wisdom in regulating words for social life? By using a literature study with topical methods, the truth about the use of tongues in this book of Proverbs is produced. The book of Proverbs warns about the dangers of speaking hastily or thoughtlessly, emphasizing the need for thoughtful and kind words. Negative words should be shunned by believers. On the other hand, positive words that slide out of the tongue give an indication of the existence of wisdom in a person's life. For Proverbs, life and death are actually influenced by the tongue. For those who can keep their words, they will gain life and success. On the contrary, for those who cannot keep their word, the destruction of life will be an inevitable certainty.

Abstract

This study explores the meaning of the phrase “New Jerusalem” in Revelation 21 by conducting a comparative study of four interpretive paradigms, namely preterist, historical, symbolic, and futurist. The phrase “New Jerusalem” tends to be interpreted in various ways, resulting in conceptual gaps regarding this eschatological symbol. This research employs a qualitative method based on literature review, supported by primary sources such as the Greek text NA28 and secondary literature from collections of theological interpretations. In this case, it was found that each interpretation offers a unique theological nuance regarding the eternal existence of God among His people. The findings show that the phrase “New Jerusalem” can not only be understood as a futuristic reality, but also as the theological identity of the present-day church as a holy community that must live in the light of God's glory and the eschatological hope that continues to be proclaimed.
