Abstract

The elderly population in Malang City is projected to reach 114,334 individuals, presenting various challenges related to health, cognitive function, and socio-emotional well-being. This study explores the role of psychoeducation in preventing loneliness among the elderly. According to Erik Erikson's theory, elderly individuals face the stage of "Integrity versus Despair," where successful navigation leads to life satisfaction, while failure results in hopelessness. Loneliness, exacerbated by reduced social roles and interactions, negatively impacts mental and physical health. Psychoeducational interventions aim to enhance understanding and provide coping strategies to address loneliness. This research, conducted in RT 02 Losari, Malang, utilized a quasi-experimental design with pretest and posttest measurements on 18 elderly participants. Data collection involved interviews and observations, highlighting limited social support and interaction among the elderly. The results demonstrated a significant increase in knowledge about loneliness, with the pretest average score of 70.56 improving to 86.11 post-intervention. The paired t-test confirmed the effectiveness of psychoeducation in reducing loneliness. Discussion emphasizes the importance of integrating psychological and educational aspects to enhance social skills, cognitive restructuring, and stress management. Recommendations include developing elderly-friendly community programs, leveraging technology for remote interventions, and fostering multidisciplinary approaches to improve mental health care access for the elderly. Future research should focus on expanding psychoeducational interventions and involving families and social environments to promote positive interactions and support for the elderly.

Abstract

The mental health and well-being of college students have become critical concerns, with rising levels of stress, anxiety, and depression reported globally. Traditional mental health interventions often focus on symptom reduction, but positive psychology emphasizes enhancing happiness and personal strengths. This study evaluates the effectiveness of a positive psychology intervention on the well-being of college students. A total of 200 students participated, with 100 assigned to the experimental group and 100 to the control group. The experimental group underwent an 8-week intervention involving gratitude exercises, strengths identification, and mindfulness practices, while the control group received no intervention. Data were collected using the Positive and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS), the Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS), and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) before and after the intervention. Results showed significant increases in positive affect and life satisfaction, alongside reductions in anxiety and stress in the experimental group compared to the control group. Qualitative feedback indicated improvements in optimism and resilience. The study concludes that positive psychology interventions can effectively enhance happiness and well-being among college students, suggesting the potential for incorporating these interventions into college mental health programs to promote healthier lifestyles.

Abstract

The increasing complexity of mental health issues has emphasized the need for continuous professional development for counselors. Traditional training methods, limited by time and location, may not fully equip counselors with necessary skills. Technology-based training, such as online courses and virtual simulations, offers new opportunities to enhance counselor competence and intervention effectiveness. However, limited research exists on the impact of these methods. This study evaluates the effectiveness of technology-based training in improving counselor skills and client outcomes. A mixed-methods design was used, involving 100 counselors: 50 received traditional in-person training, and 50 received technology-based training through an online platform. Quantitative data were collected via pre- and post-training assessments and client satisfaction surveys, while qualitative data were gathered through interviews and focus groups. Results showed a 30% increase in competence scores for counselors receiving technology-based training, compared to a 15% increase for those in traditional training. Clients of technology-trained counselors reported higher satisfaction and perceived effectiveness of interventions. Qualitative feedback highlighted greater flexibility, interactive experiences, and immediate feedback in digital training, leading to higher engagement and knowledge retention. The study concludes that technology-based training effectively enhances counselor competence and outcomes, offering a flexible and interactive approach for continuous professional development.

Abstract

Adolescents face increasing mental health challenges such as anxiety, depression, and stress due to social, academic, and developmental pressures. While cognitive therapy is effective in addressing these issues, integrating mindfulness practices may enhance therapeutic outcomes by promoting emotional regulation and reducing psychological distress. However, research on this combined approach for adolescents remains limited. This study evaluates the effectiveness of integrating cognitive therapy and mindfulness in improving adolescent mental health. A randomized controlled trial (RCT) was conducted with 120 adolescents aged 13-18, divided into two groups: the experimental group receiving both cognitive therapy and mindfulness, and a control group receiving only cognitive therapy. Quantitative data was collected through pre- and post-intervention assessments using the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), and Perceived Stress Scale (PSS). Results revealed that the experimental group experienced a 45% reduction in anxiety, a 50% decrease in depression, and a 40% reduction in stress, compared to the control group. The integrated therapy group also reported improved emotional regulation and resilience. The study concludes that combining cognitive therapy with mindfulness is more effective in promoting adolescent mental health than cognitive therapy alone. This approach offers a holistic framework, suggesting its potential for broader therapeutic interventions.
