Abstract

The integration of narrative design in serious games has become a pivotal factor in enhancing player engagement and improving learning outcomes in educational games. Despite the growing use of game-based learning, the specific role of narrative elements in achieving these outcomes remains underexplored. This research aims to develop a framework for narrative design in educational games, focusing on its impact on player engagement and learning outcomes. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining quantitative surveys to measure knowledge retention, problem-solving, and critical thinking, with qualitative interviews to explore player experiences and emotional engagement. The study involved 200 participants who were divided into two groups: one playing games with strong narrative elements and the other with minimal narrative content. The results indicate that narrative-driven games significantly enhance engagement and improve learning outcomes. Players in the narrative-heavy group demonstrated higher levels of knowledge retention (M = 4.45), problem-solving (M = 4.38), and player engagement (M = 4.60) compared to the narrative-light group (M = 3.72, M = 3.55, and M = 3.45, respectively). These findings suggest that effective narrative design is essential for maximizing the educational potential of serious games. The study provides actionable insights for game designers and educators to optimize narrative elements in educational games.

Abstract

The evolution of dynamic storytelling in game design has been significantly influenced by advances in procedural generation techniques, allowing for the creation of adaptive and player-driven narratives. While traditional narratives in games follow a linear path, procedural generation enables stories to evolve based on player choices, offering unique and personalized experiences. This research aims to explore the potential of procedural narrative generation in enhancing player engagement and learning outcomes in educational games. The study employs a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative analysis of player engagement, knowledge retention, and problem-solving abilities with qualitative insights from participant interviews. A total of 240 participants were divided into three groups: those who interacted with games featuring fully procedural narratives, semi-procedural narratives, and traditional static narratives. The results show that players in the fully procedural narrative group demonstrated higher levels of engagement and cognitive performance, particularly in knowledge retention and problem-solving. These findings indicate that procedural narratives can significantly enhance player immersion and educational outcomes, providing a more interactive and personalized gaming experience. The study concludes that the integration of procedural generation in narrative design offers a promising avenue for improving educational game design, fostering deeper engagement and more effective learning.

Abstract

The integration of haptic feedback into Virtual Reality (VR) systems has gained significant attention as a means to enhance user immersion and presence. While visual and auditory feedback have been extensively studied, the impact of tactile sensations on users' experience of immersion in VR environments remains underexplored. This study investigates the effects of different types of haptic feedback on user presence and immersion in VR. The research aims to determine how tactile sensations, such as vibration and force feedback, influence users' engagement and emotional involvement in virtual environments. A mixed-methods approach was used, involving 90 participants who were exposed to three conditions: no haptic feedback, basic haptic feedback (vibration), and advanced haptic feedback (force and texture simulation). Quantitative data were collected through immersion and presence questionnaires, while qualitative data were gathered through post-experiment interviews. The results show that advanced haptic feedback significantly improves both user presence and immersion compared to the other two conditions. Participants in the advanced feedback group reported higher emotional engagement, greater realism, and improved cognitive involvement. These findings suggest that haptic feedback plays a critical role in enhancing VR experiences by fostering a stronger sense of being "there" in the virtual world. The study concludes that incorporating sophisticated tactile feedback is essential for improving user immersion in VR.

Abstract

The global mental health crisis continues to escalate, with millions of individuals facing barriers to accessing affordable care. Traditional mental health services, while effective, are often inaccessible due to high costs, geographic barriers, and limited availability. This research proposes a socio-preneurship model that leverages Virtual Reality Exposure Therapy (VRET) as a scalable, cost-effective solution to address these challenges. The study aims to explore the feasibility and effectiveness of utilizing VRET within a socio-preneurship framework to provide affordable mental health services to underserved populations. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining quantitative measures of anxiety and stress reduction with qualitative interviews to assess user satisfaction and engagement. Participants were divided into a VR therapy group and a control group receiving traditional therapy. The results demonstrated significant improvements in anxiety and stress levels for the VR therapy group compared to the control group, alongside higher levels of user engagement and satisfaction. The study concludes that VRET, when integrated into a socio-preneurship model, offers a viable, accessible, and effective solution to providing mental health services in underserved communities. This approach not only improves mental health outcomes but also creates sustainable, scalable systems for addressing mental health disparities.

Abstract

Cultural heritage is a vital aspect of community identity and history, yet many regions face challenges in preserving and promoting their heritage in the face of modern economic pressures. Traditional tourism practices often lead to the commercialization and degradation of cultural sites, while communities struggle to benefit economically from their heritage. Augmented Reality (AR) technology offers a promising solution by providing immersive, interactive experiences that can both preserve and promote cultural heritage while supporting sustainable tourism. This study explores the implementation of an AR-based digital-preneurship start-up model designed to revitalize cultural heritage through tourism while empowering local communities. The research employs a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews with both local stakeholders and tourists. The findings reveal that the AR platform significantly enhanced both tourist engagement and local economic outcomes, increasing community participation in tourism-related activities and boosting income for local businesses. The study concludes that AR-based digital-preneurship offers a scalable, sustainable model for cultural heritage revitalization, providing communities with a new avenue for economic development and cultural preservation. This research contributes to the growing body of knowledge on the intersection of technology, entrepreneurship, and sustainable tourism.
