Abstract

Betel nut contains alcaloids such as arecoline, arecaine, arecaidine, arecolidine, guvacine, guvacoline and isoguvasine. Arecoline has ability to change gonad morph-function, including shape abnormality of sperm. This research was conducted to prove the ability of betel nut extract (Areca catechu) in causing apoptosis on testis connective tissue of Rattus novergicus. This research used male; 2-3 months age, 150-200 grams body weight of white rats Rattus norvegicus strain Wistar. The rats were divided into 5 groups in equalnumber, 3 rats respectively. They were a control group without treatment and 4 groups as treatment groups which were given doses of betel nut extract, i,e., 1, 2, 3  and 4 gram during seven days. The result showed that dose variation ofbetel nut extract could induction of COX-2 expression on rats (Rattus norvegicus) strain Wistar testicular seminiferous tubule. Keywords: Betel nut extract, Rattus norvegicus, testis, cyclooxygenase-2

Abstract

Musca domestica is a fly which can be found aroundhouse and cage. Its present interference human hygiene, calmness and health. This fly generating many loss at human being and animal because this fly have high potency  in spreading many diseases agents, that are protozoa, worm, virus, bacterium and fungi. Several agents of emerging, reemerging and new emerging diseases can be transferred by M. domestica such as Cryptosporidium parvum, Helicobacter pylori, E.coli O157:H7 and H5N1. Agens removed by M. domestica through regurgitasi, excrete and exoskleleton. Interestingly M. domestica might be act as biological vector. Key words: Musca domestica, agent of disease

Abstract

Naturally the existency of regulatory T cells are represented by CD4+CD25+T cells. Those cells have been identified as a population of immuno-regulatory T cells, which mediated suppression of CD4+CD25+T cells by cell–cell contact. In the effectors phase the function of CD4+CD25+T regulatory T cells through the involvement of certain suppressive cytokines, such as TGF-β. In this study, we demonstrated that CD4+CD25+ cells produced high levels of Transforming Growth Factor-β (TGF-β) compared with CD4+CD25-T cells when stimulated by plate-bound anti-CD3 andsoluble anti-CD28. We observed that suppression ability of those cells could be abolished by the presence of anti–TGF-β. Finally, we found that stimulated CD4+CD25+T cells but not CD4+CD25-T cells express high and persistent levels of TGF-β. This finding strongly suggests that CD4+CD25+T cells exert immuno-suppression by cell–cell surfaces interaction involved cell of TGF-β. Keyword: Sel T CD4+CD25+, TGF-β, immunosupresion

Abstract

The blood plasma of preeclampsia contains oxidative stress factors. The oxidative stress is predicted asthe cause of dis-function and destruction of endothelial cell which will influence the severity of Preeclampsia and Eclampsia complications. Previous research showed that the treatment of antioxidant on preeclamsia was still controvertion. The  objectives of this research is to investigate the influence of the combination of NAC and vitamin C or vitamin E or bothof them on the level of H2O2, MDA, NO and GSH/GSSG ratio of endothelial cell culture exposed with Eclampsia plasma. The method wasan experimental study using HUVECs exposed with to 2%plasma Eclampsia as an Eclampsia model invitro. TheHUVECs were than treated with NAC 2µM only (group 1), NAC2µM + vitamin C 100 µM (group 2) , NAC 2 µM + vitamin E 100 µM (group 3), and NAC 2 µM + vitamin C 100 µM + vitamin E 100 µM (group 4) for 24 hours. The parameter measured in this study were H2O2, MDA, NO and GSH/GSSG ratio. Result showed that H2O2, MDA, and NO concentration are unsignificantly different among treatment groups although there was a decreasing on group treated with combination of NAC, vitamin C and Vitamin E.

Abstract

Generally, distress which followed by psychiatric disorders still become a medicinal practice controversial especially psychologically stressor roles on holistic health condition. Therefore, research is needed to explain and clarify the influences and the role of psychologically stressors on psychiatric disorders. This study used an psychoneuroimmunologic paradigm, which used posttest-only true experiment  design. About 24 female Rattus norvegicus strain  Wistar had been used, divided into six groups. To investigate functional changes, we used hippocampus SERT distribution  changes as mirror of central serotonergic malfunction changes. The structural changes was measured by apoptosis index of hippocampus CA3 regions (hippocampus slicing). We also took the blood from the rats heart to examine  IL ? 6 and cortisol level. Psychological stressors lead to measuring of functional and structural changes include hippocampus SERT distribution and increase hippocampus apoptotic index, that finally arise the distress. These results of statistical analyses demonstrate that psychological stressors seem to be mediated by serotonergic neurotransmission pathway. Key words :hippocampus CA3 region, SERT malfunction, IL-6, cortisol, psychological stressors

Abstract

The paper aimed to report a different management ofreconstruction for large traumatic upper eyelid defect. Case 1 : a 17 years old woman with traumatic upper eyelid defect in the right eye since 2 years old. The defect was linear but wide, looks like a triangle defect. Defect had repaired by direct closure. After the operation the defect remain. Case 2 : a 45 years old man with more than 50 % traumatic upper eyelid defect in the left eye. Cutler-beard procedurwas made to close the defect. Separation of the flap had been done at the second procedure. Cutler-beard procedure, done to the second patient, had succed to close the upper eyelid defect. Reconstruction procedure carried out for  the first patient was not adequate to restore the large upper eyelid  defect. Cutler-beard procedure is used for upper eyelid defect involving more than 50% seem to have a good result.Key words: Cutler beard, Direct closure

Abstract

This researach was aimed to describe the risk factor profile of pediatric patients with allergic rhinitis. 1792 medical recordsof outpatients pediatric allergy immunology clinic in Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital from 1997 to 2005. Fifty patients were diagnosed with allergic rhinitis and 22% of them  were having allergic rhinitis with bronchial asthma.Allergic rhinitis were identified higher in boys (62%) than girls (38%) and ranged from 5 months to 13 years and 8 months old. Atopic history were identified in 24 patients (48) while atopic history in patient family were identified in mother (42%), father (40%), and siblings (24%). Total IgE serum increased in 35 patients (88,57%) while total eosinophil serum increased in 28 patients (80%). The most common aeroallergen by skin prick test was house dust mite (36%) and the most common food allergen was shrimp (40%). There were several factors that contribute to the development of allergic rhinitis such as age, sex, family atopic history and increasing in total IgE serum and total eosinophil serum . House dust mite and shrimp were the most common allergen identified in allergic rhinitis. Keywords: allergic rhinitis, risk factors, pediatric
