Abstract

This study examines the dynamics of strategic food commodity prices, specifically C4 grade I quality rice and large clean quality shallots, across three key locations in Nusa Tenggara Barat Province during 2024. Utilizing a quantitative descriptive approach with secondary data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS) NTB, this research analyzes monthly price fluctuations, inter-regional variations, and stability patterns. Results indicate that rice prices averaged Rp14,780/kg in Mataram City, Rp15,447/kg in Bima City, and Rp15,361/kg in Sumbawa Regency, with coefficient of variation ranging from 6.2% to 8.0%. Shallot prices demonstrated greater volatility, averaging Rp32,266/kg annually with a price range of Rp19,006-41,736/kg. Mataram City consistently exhibited the most stable prices due to superior market infrastructure and distribution networks, while Bima City recorded the highest prices attributed to geographical factors and inter-island transportation costs. Seasonal patterns emerged clearly, with price peaks occurring during the lean season in the first quarter and before major religious holidays. The study recommends strengthening regional food security through optimized food reserve stocks, integrated logistics systems, and enhanced roles for regional food enterprises in price stabilization mechanisms.

Abstract

Horticultural commodities play a crucial role in household food consumption and economic stability in Indonesia. This study examines the price fluctuation patterns of vegetables and fruits in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Province throughout 2024, focusing on their impact on consumer purchasing power. Using quantitative descriptive analysis of secondary data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS) NTB Province 2024, this research analyzed monthly price variations of six key commodities: fresh spinach (bayam), green mustard (sawi hijau), carrots, milk bananas, papaya, and imported oranges across three cities (Mataram, Bima, and Sumbawa District). The findings reveal significant seasonal fluctuation patterns, with prices increasing during the dry season (April-June) and declining during peak harvest periods. Green mustard exhibited the highest volatility with a coefficient of variation (CV) of 17.9%, while carrots showed the most stable prices at 8.5% CV. Bima City recorded the highest average prices for most commodities due to elevated distribution costs and supply dependency on Lombok region. The price fluctuations significantly affected consumer purchasing power, particularly among low-income households who tend to reduce consumption or shift to high-carbohydrate alternatives during price spikes. The study recommends strengthening the horticultural logistics system, establishing central horticultural markets, and implementing real-time digital price monitoring systems to maintain market stability and protect consumers. These findings provide valuable insights for policymakers in developing effective price stabilization strategies for horticultural commodities in regional food security planning.

Abstract

Food price stability is a crucial indicator for maintaining household economic balance and controlling regional inflation. This study analyzes the relationship between strategic food price fluctuations and consumer inflation levels in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Province throughout 2024. Using quantitative descriptive methods with secondary data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) NTB, this research examines three strategic food commodities: grade I C4 rice, shallots, and beef in three Consumer Price Index (CPI) regions: Mataram City, Bima City, and Sumbawa Regency. The analysis reveals that shallots exhibit the highest volatility with a coefficient of variation of 25.4%, while beef shows the most stability at 1.8%. Rice maintains moderate stability with a CV of 4.3%. Simple correlation analysis demonstrates a positive relationship between average food prices and monthly inflation rates (r = 0.71). Shallots function as a trigger commodity for food inflation, while rice and beef serve as stabilizing commodities. Rising food prices directly impact purchasing power, particularly for lower-middle income groups, where food expenditure exceeds 45% of total consumption. The findings underscore the urgent need for price stabilization policies, improved inter-regional distribution systems, and real-time price monitoring to prevent seasonal food inflation spikes.

Abstract

This study examines the legal protection framework for consumers facing price fluctuations of staple goods in West Nusa Tenggara Province (NTB), Indonesia. Using a mixed-method approach combining quantitative price data analysis from BPS NTB 2024 and qualitative legal document review, this research evaluates the implementation of Law No. 8 of 1999 on Consumer Protection and Law No. 7 of 2014 on Trade. The findings reveal that while Indonesia possesses a robust normative legal framework for consumer protection, implementation at the regional level remains inadequate. Analysis of 2024 price data demonstrates significant fluctuations in strategic commodities: rice prices increased by 14% in March 2024, while shallot prices fluctuated up to 120% throughout the year. These variations indicate weak enforcement of price control mechanisms and insufficient application of fairness, balance, and legal certainty principles. The study concludes that strengthening regional regulations, enhanced inter-agency coordination, and improved market surveillance mechanisms are essential to ensure price affordability and protect consumers from predatory economic practices.

Abstract

This study examines the relationship between food price volatility and gender role transformation within households in West Nusa Tenggara Province during 2024. Using a mixed-methods approach that combines statistical analysis of food price data from the Central Bureau of Statistics with qualitative document analysis of family law frameworks, this research reveals that significant fluctuations in staple food prices particularly rice (Rp14,568-Rp16,666/kg), shallots (up to Rp41,736/kg), and beef (around Rp120,000/kg) have created substantial economic pressure on low to middle-income families. The findings demonstrate that economic stress has catalyzed a shift in traditional gender roles, with women increasingly participating in productive economic activities to supplement household income. From a legal perspective, this transformation represents a legitimate form of family cooperation (ta'awun) rather than a violation of traditional breadwinner responsibilities outlined in Marriage Law No. 1/1974 and the Compilation of Islamic Law. The study concludes that food price instability serves as a structural driver of gender role adaptation, necessitating policy interventions that protect dual-income households while maintaining family resilience.
